  1. Regarding the eBay listing, yeah the price is really high, I certainly would not expect to get that much and do have a best offer option, but there is roughly $1100 worth of bricks purchased at brick link in the build. I put it up mainly just for kicks as the listing only cost $1.75 or so, and it relists automatically for free, I have got only one real offer for $1500, I'd likely sell it for $2000 minimum plus shipping.I've since had a child and now am so busy with work and family I rarely get a chance to come on these forums anymore unfortunately. I'm glad you like the ship though, I always get great reactions from people who see it.
  2. Pic added!
  3. Hey all made a ship for the Gauntlet to have in the escort! Small but made with 90% left over parts from the ship of the line build. the stern didn't come out as good as I would have wanted but it will do for the time being. Likely will be making the sails shortly.
  4. Awaiting orders! Also my frame came in!
  5. Awaiting orders! Also my frame came in !
  6. Hey all, so interestingly I sat down with the trash bag of pieces and my tablet with this thread open and got her back together in about an hour and 45 minutes! One broken piece, a robot arm. And one extra 1x1x5 pillar??? No idea where it went but didn't look long as it is late. But BACK IN ACTION! and fixed the GUANTLET sticker to GAUNTLET!
  7. Update..... Rough seas off the coast if California has caused a ship wreck :-( Or my wife tried to move the gauntlet while cleaning, but I liked the first explanation better. She was moving it while cleaning the house and forgot that it was sectional, the stern and cross section fell a good for feet and blew apart. As I'm pretty busy I won't likely get to rebuild get for a few months. But rest assured it will be done. Likely will re do the rigging and sails. I will try and post a pic of the wreck soon
  8. Ha, whoopsie, will have to break out the label maker again.
  9. Hey everyone, recently purchased a house here in So Cal after a long time looking and finding something both the wife and I liked. Surprisingly she let me put the Gauntlet above the fireplace! Also I was looking around for some art and found this at the naval history mueseum here in the states and ordered a 30x40 print which will be hung behind the ship!
  10. Fantastic! Only difficult part is finding where to display it, especially if you have a wife ;-)
  11. Hey all, The Gauntlet likely will be under going an interior update soon. Thinking about giving her a nice touch of white "paint" through out the upper gun deck and reducing the size of the supports within the decking. Likely to add a capstan and maybe redoing the rigging. Stay tuned as well as I might also try and take the same basic build and create a uss third rater version looking something like the pic below. USS Ohio, likely will give her an alternate name however if finished
  12. We just need Russell Crowe to do another Master and Commander movie :-D
  13. An incredibly ambitious project!!! I agree about possibly cutting a bit of length on her. One way to simplfy this and have both variations would be to make it in sections as mentioned. This way mobility would be easier and also you can have a removable cross section which you could either keep in the ship for your go bigger idea, or remove at will. As long as the mounting points line up. Maybe two removable cross sections to keep the masts in proper alignment. It's great to see an American ship of the line being created. I always admired the photo I have already seen posted in this thread of the U.S.S. Pennsylvania. Its a shame that we had her torched after "worrying," about capture. I just hope you will be putting sails on this beast eventually. Can't imagine how big they will be! I also agree about the cannons and feel a custom approach would be more realistic for a ship of this size, likely less expensive as well. Keep up the good work and can't wait to see how you design the stern! On a last note when I was creating my little "dingy, compared to this!" I posted several pictures of the creation process and took many comments into consideration. Without the help of these boards it likely would have turned out vastly different and not nearly as pleasing. After all, MOC's are one of the main reasons why I'm sure so many people are here.
  14. I spent a little of $1,500 USD on Bricklink for mine, I likely have however about $150 to $250 in spare pieces. I would imagine I have easily 5000+ pieces in the ship itself.
  15. Looks great! Can't wait to see it in real brick! I always loved the openness of a brig
  16. Finally got around to putting the name on her!
  17. Looks nice! Can you post a few more pictures with different angles? I'm curious to see more of the shape you got with the prefab hulls! Also How many studs wide are you at the first yellow strip? Even with my brick built hull I was too narrow for the height at first when doing a double decker. Keep up the good work though these projects are quite exciting when they start coming together.
  18. Looks amazing. I really like the forecastle and custom cannons. the shape is great.
  19. Ha, originally a possible figure head. Then got short on mini figs Regarding the rigging, I want to eventually do real string but the plastic will have to suffice for now
  20. [pid][/pid] 116C Hello all, I want to thank all those who provided feedback during my build. It was an incredibly fun project and resulted in what I believe a very appealing vessel. All the other fine MOC threads I found on this forum were inspirations and I want to thank you all for your hard work on your individiual acomplishments. The last detail to be added will be a clear stick GAUNTLET on the stern. Here is a link to the "WIP" thread about this build. My link The entire build is modular along with various side paneling and the poop deck being easily removable for interior access. Enjoy
  21. Sounds great for the blog- I will be taking some final photos tonight. Feel free to send me a message if you need any in higher resolution than 600x800.
  22. Near the finish!! Have a decent size crew on order and some more interior detail will be added. Then will have a professional who I work with photograph the boat against a proper background
  23. Nearing Completion of the major elements. Several details still will be added eventually. I'm still trying to decide roughly how many crew members I should have. The name of the boat will be the HMS Gauntlet, with just Guantlet being sticked in black on the yellow strip below the lower cabin. The sails are some basic stiff fabric I found a Joanne's (A large farbric store in the states) I will eventually stripe them and add some detail. They are slightly see through but it does not bother me too much at this point. Still trying to devise a solution for below the cabin to finish off the hull. The last detail will be the foremost triangular sails which I still have yet to decide on. As I want two in a staggered fashion, I dont believe the IPF solution will work. I think I may add a single string from the bow sprit along the top of the mast to the stern. Here are some pics
  24. Made some more progress this weekend. The yellow doors on the bow are the typical 1980's doors of old. I will likely replace them with blue ones later. Added the third mast and all is well now save for the forecastle, poop deck and loads of detail. Looking at the third mast it seems bit too close to the main but after looking at pictures of real vessels perhaps it will be ok.
  25. Making some more progress with the stern now. Also decided to lower the rigging mounts at left and right. Will be making the third mast shortly on the new section that will be implemented. The entire third mast will be on a 10 stud cross section.
