Often naming is very difficult because of the high variety. I think, technic bricks remain technic bricks, because the today used parts mostly are beams. And this quite is an other name.

Hallo, my name is CHristoph, I am from Germany and in my childhood I was a lego player with much courage. Now when my son started to play lego, I begun to create models for him, which he can build. So I learned aswell to manage with the many new possibilities of Lego. But I miss half beams in the length of thwo, three or for studs without cross hole. I don't know why I could need them always.
