2025 Technic Sets Discussion
thurd replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Did exactly that with an FPV drone, whole setup (transmitter, goggles and mobula8) cost below 500$. I'm having tons of fun and once you brake stuff, you get to play with much more advanced Legos. -

Don't do this. Don't give me hope. Obviously I'm buying the small backhoe and surprisingly the JCB Monster Truck (it's the coolest monster truck ever). But a proper, especially flagship, scale JCB backhoe would be so awesome and an instant buy for me. I don't even care about it being overpriced. If I scream loudly enough they will hear it. After we get a proper, modern backhoe, I'll start screaming about a tractor to replace Claas Clarion which now is prohibitively expensive. -
2024 Technic Sets Discussion

So this is it? Really? 2024 technic lineup has got to be one of the worst ever. I feel like we didn't actually get any technic sets except for Truck+Digger. Lego needs to do some soul searching, cars might sell well now, but long term I don't think it's a good strategy. -

I'd pay good money for a proper flagship backhoe. I missed Claas Xerion and now it's at an insane price, but a great backhoe would be even better. It's insane to me we're getting shitty cars instead of a good backhoe. -

Is it me or is this year particularly bad for technic? It's mostly boring cars, couple of decent space sets and a poor Volvo truck. Nothing stands out, if you're not a fan of space or cars you basically have a year off of lego. -

Now you guys made me look at this adventure park 🙂 I couldn't care less about the line name, as long as the mechanisms are interesting and innovative. Sadly with Technic it's more and more cars these days, which I despise with all my heart. -

echo_bricks on Instagram also has Skider pictures. I'm interested in what's going on with the back axle, it looks like a suspension of sorts as a function? Pneumatic as suspected but just from the picture doesn't seem like a big deal compared to something like 42128. Rover looks awesome and I'm getting it just for the display value alone. If they manage to sneak some functions in it would be icing on the cake. -

That's some brutal Lego inflation my friend. We get higher price, less parts and less functions than the brilliant 42128. I know all sets cannot be equal but at least they should be priced accordingly and this is not a good price in my opinion. -

At some point they might force us to consider Cada or Mould King for the "proper" technic sets and if they deliver, some people might change sides 😉 -

Instant buy for me. Number of pieces is enough to make it look good and the scale should be decent enough. Also can't wait for TLG to approve this fantastic Ideas set of JWST: https://ideas.lego.com/s/p:3decd220889e4eb3b93896aa3f788f0a Can't imagine why they didn't do it yet. When I was following it's launch and unfolding mechanisms, all I could think of was: this will make a fantastic lego set. -

Please please make it come true. Large scale backhoe is currently on the top of my wish list. We need some proper lego construction/agriculture sets in this stream of cars. -

Even if some cars sell well, I can't imagine betting all your future revenue from Technic just on cars. This is a very uninspiring lineup and I don't see anything I'm even remotely interested in. H1 looks like a breather for my wallet. Give me proper technic sets from agriculture or construction. We didn't get a bigger backhoe for years and I'd love one in the same scale as 42054. Small sets are sweet and all but don't really scratch that same itch. -
I'm in the process of assembly and now I understand what everyone meant by "axles being too massive". They are enormous and provide zero ground clearance due to their geometry. My initial plan is to build the truck completely stock, play with it, record performance and key parameters and then apply various fixes and mods that have been posted everywhere. Once something improves I'll record how much it has changed. I'm going to pimp my Zetros as much as possible before I even attempt any MOCs based on him. I like the set, like the truck and while it does have it's faults I don't get the hate it gets from a lot of people.

Your Best Technic Bargains
thurd replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I just bought a new & sealed 42129 for 185 euro and I consider that a steal. It's a great set with just enough unique pieces and full set of motors for 1 hub which makes it insane base for other RC MOCs. -
This particular Kamag 2800 Slag Pot Transporter would be a perfect set! It has an interesting shape with a pivot axle under its cabin and what I think is a two position seat. There is also the pot part and it's lifting and tilting mechanism that would be very interesting to implement. Not much of a gearbox or suspension but still enough possible functions. But my wishlist (besides a full RC all motorized functions, gearbox including JCB 3CX) item has to be Meclift ML1812R Variable Reach Truck (basically a telehandler). This machine is a perfect and unique lego set!! It's so good I'm surprised they didn't feature it already, especially since it's European made. First of all it's shape is really unique and folds onto itself giving it really compact dimensions and the ability to drive inside a standard shipping container!! It can adjust it's cabin height, lift up to 6m, has an adjustable width fork, insane turning radius in it's back wheels and double wheels on the front (I'm a sucker for those). I see so many possible functions here: 2 modes for the fork (parallel to the ground or fully adjustable), adjustable fork width, tele and lift, cabin height and high steering angle. Imagine a set made to scale that would include both this telehandler and a shipping container that it could drive into (without it's fork, possibly all the way). Plus it just looks so good and this color scheme is really nice. Seems like something that could almost be MOCed from 42128.

42146 - Liebherr LR13000
thurd replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This can't be right. 600$ is insane and I don't care how many motors there are inside this package. Also with such a long crane and relatively low amount of pieces won't it be very dull during building? -
That's a really good idea. I've been eyeing the Defender since it's extremely cheap compared to the number of parts it gives (it even beats the current Tow Truck). I never considered the 42099, something about the Zetros speaks to me and the amount of mods and upgrades (in this thread also) is very tempting, but maybe I should look around if there aren't any good deals. I'll certainly look at the MOCs you've built, inspiration is always nice. Thank you for your help!

So which models should I buy to build good offroad trucks? Serious question. I need at least 3 L motors, lots of axles and gears, suspension parts etc. Is there a better combination of sets that give me those parts cheaper? Zetros is available now for 200e. 9398 is 300e+ and a PF set. I'd rather get PU since future models will also use it and I'd rather have 2 PU hubs for building than a 1xPU and 1xPF.

I just got back into this hobby and one of my first sets is Zeux loader, it's really awesome but as many have said it could use some motors. That's why I'm extremely interested in this new Control+ set, if it's really good I'd have a great start but if it's just a different loader then it might not be a good set to go for as it likely will contain lots of the same parts and functions. Given this list I really hope it would be a backhoe since it could include many new functions and motors but primarily a lot of parts that I desperately need: gearbox, differentials and suspension.
