That is beautiful :) I am a big fan of the liftarm things near the tips of the cannons.

Thank you both. :) I'm interested in making instructions but I have zero prior experience so it may be a while for them. Fortunately the ship isn't that big.- 20 replies

Hello! this is my first actual moc post here, and hopefully far from the last. I hope you all enjoy this Resistance A-Wing design! I must give a big shoutout to Gumbinger, as a few elements are lifted from his RZ-2 design. I borrowed the general dimensions, the conical-shaped front deflector shield generators, but most notably the engine designs are almost exactly the same. I lowered the height of the top fins, but otherwise, I thought everything about his engine design was too good not to use. This design was the result of about a few weeks worth of first building in stud.io and then some back and forth of testing in real bricks and revising. Compared to the RZ-1, the RZ-2 has a lot more subtle, smoother and straighter angles. The angles coming from the front of the RZ-1 are slightly curved and round out at about the front of the cockpit, with the top and bottom surfaces becoming seemingly parallel with each other. With the RZ-2, the angles taper back from the front very evenly back past the cockpit, without ever really rounding out. This gives the side silhouette a very sharp triangular look, and it's one of the things I wanted to capture most. I feel like it turned out pretty well! The green markings on the red one stick out in an unfortunate way, I really had no idea how to incorporate them more smoothly into the design. They sit right on top of the old style 1x2 finger hinges. If I liked it less, it would be easy to remove the markings and just continue the white tiling. A small thing but I'm only just now noticing that the red 1x1 tile on the ship's left lower fin should be dark red, not white There are definitely a few areas that really could use improvement. Ideally, the panels on the middle sides of the ship could be stronger and easier to put together. It's not totally fragile or unswooshable but I don't love that area's construction either. There's also a good few gaps here and there, I feel like the part directly behind the windscreen could be more smoothly rounded, that area was surprisingly hard. I'm happy to accept all these flaws and just call this a version 1. After a while I'd like to come back and try to revisit all the problem areas in a version 2. Hope you enjoyed the model! If you're interested in buying instructions and parts lists, check out this flickr post for details.

Really cool! Honestly I think the height offset at the top looks pretty neat, but, what you could do to achieve even height is raise the stud-up sections by two plates and add another plates width to the SNOT sections (so the tiled edge on top of the slopes would be 2 wide rather than 1 wide).

Amazing use of yellowed bricks! As a southern californian this makes me really want mexican food

Edit: Didn't mean to post that before I hadn't even typed anything yet but whatever I guess, lol Did my best to build the model in stud.io and give it the Poe's TROS color scheme, lots of collision going on in the forward fuselage, doesn't matter of course. A good few parts don't exist in orange. I was content with some of them being replaced with LBG or whatever but others needed a slightly different sub-assembly. I actually particularly like how the missile tube looks here. I don't really love the replacement for the 2x3 slopes by both engines, but keeping the slope in either orange or white ruined the angle of the triangular pattern too much. The back of each engine is modded to get some more accurate shaping, The T-70 I have built irl is modded the same way, I think it's super nice. If it wasn't for the fact that I really absolutely don't need another lego x-wing right now, I'd love to build this in real bricks.

Thank you. :) Ooh I've never seen this paintjob before. Looking forward to seeing it built!

Pretty much, yeah. What's interesting is that in the game, this livery is the only one that has the wings covered by mostly color and has the top stripe near the nose, while the other [insert color] squadron liveries look almost exactly like the rebel x-wing liveries as they're normally seen. So yeah, the resemblance to a T-70 seems intentional. Sidenote: I felt using a 2x4 regular blue tile for the top stripe would way overstate how it looks, like it's not a thick stripe, so I made it sand-blue instead.

I built mine last night, I'm really happy with it! I had built your version 1 previously, in the blue squadron coloring that came with the instructions, but this time I wanted to do something a little more unique, so I based this version 2 off the blue squadron livery in Star Wars: Squadrons! I think it came out really great, I especially like how the wings were able to be completely studless with this look.

:O Fantastic

Would love to see a white version next to Black One, looking forward to it! Thanks! For me, the other colors accenting white are really important in making it look good. Fortunately on the T-70, there's lots of grey accents that helps the white not feel too clean. A good amount of dark bley, especially, to offset the white is important imo. Also, on T-65s I personally don't prefer white and normal red together. Red is just such an intense color, but normal blue isn't as commanding, so I think white works better with it.

I built mine yesterday and I could not be more satisfied! What an incredible design, I've got a little bandai T-70 and comparing the bandai model with this lego model, it's just admirable how faithfully so many of the angles are recreated. I'm also so pleased at how tight the new gear mechanism is; this model can really be swooshed! I chose to build my x-wing in mainly white and also made some additional color blocking to bring it closer to what this particular T-70 looks like in the films. I can see why you and BV chose a mainly grey body for the normal resistance version, though. In the CG battle scenes they certainly take on a more grey look. The physical lifesize models they built for sets look more on the white side than grey to me, though, and I just prefer it. Ideally we'd have some color that was someway between white and light bluish-grey. Using white as the main color of the body also allows the engine intakes and cockpit to be built in light-bluish grey and remain distinct from the rest of the body, and if I ever build Poe's x-wing, I'd really want those elements to be consistent. There are a couple of areas I tweaked a little bit. I found that the little sword piece on the bottom of the fuselage didn't allow the 2x3 tiles to fit 100% comfortably, so they were very prone to popping off, as well as the sword itself being kind of finicky. I replaced the modified plate with clip that holds the sword in place with a toothed plate, and also put a 1x2 tile below the 2x3 tiles, and I'm pretty satisfied with the look. More unfortunately, the singular part of the build I found truly frustrating was attaching the rear 2x2 tiles. I managed to get one side looking good, but getting the other side to match was really tough, and even if I did get it to match I dreaded having to reattach any of them if one happened to pop out. Ultimately I decided to replace the bottom two tiles with some white brackets and 1x1 tiles helping to fill in the inner gaps. It's certainly less accurate and visually appealing, but it's also supremely less maddening so for me it's an acceptable compromise. I don't know if it's just me that had this much trouble with this area, but if you or anyone has any advice on this part of the build I'd love to hear it. Congrats again Jerac on this incredible model! I'm sure this will be the gold standard for a minifig-scale T-70 for a long time.

This moc looks great! I've bought the instructions, I'll be building Jerac's T-70 x-wing soon, and I'd love to have a red RZ-2 to accompany it. Whenever I get around to building one I'll make sure to post it here!
