Ideas for ROTJ 30th Anniversary Rehashes
ButterMelon replied to Fallenangel's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I vote 6210 Gotta get more Jabba out there! I was just coming out of my dark ages when I passed on the sail barge. I've regretted it ever since. But I really wish they would rehash 4501 (the cantina) -
Soundmanred - that right there is plenty of participation for a local LUG!! If anybody is interested, the 121st & Elm Walmart in BA has Atlantis 7984 Deep See Raider on sale for $20 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=7984-1 down from $29.97 - the shelf tag doesn't show that they are on sale - but they ring up %30 off. I bought 10 at 7:30am this morning. They had about 8 of them left in an odd place, still on the construction toy isle, way down at the North end - close to the board games

I would like to see a more complete Mos Eisley Cantina, even though I know it would be a rediculously expensive set. Hammerhead - ithorian (can be reused as roron cobb from CW) snaggletooth - dimunitive trandosian (just the boskk head molded in grey on a dark red body with shorty legs) walrusman - agualish (can be reused as a CW senator or CIS villian, could probably just be a head print) the Modal Nodes - bith (could probably just be a head print with a HP Draco hair piece cast in light flesh) R5-D4 - we may already be getting this one, as the new tie set appears to have the needed part in black ObiWan Ghost - parts could be reused for a holographic sidious & reissues of greedo jawas sand people dewbacks jabba & a BANTHA just exactly like we saw in the video games If they just want to be crazy good to us, I want to see.... Zuckus & 4LOM - same parts different colors & prints Leia as Boushh CW flame/ snow assault troopers - same parts, same prints, only different colors Dexter Jettster - I'd be cool with a torso print or clamshell head that showed the 2 extra arms folded across his chest Caminoans and wookies - made with toy story woody/jessie tall figure parts bib fortuna's headgear in blue/green/red

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here
ButterMelon replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
The frigate is basically a rehash of 7665 Republic cruiser in more utilitarian colors. I don't have the frigate yet, but I do have 8089 Turbo Tank and the 7665 Republic cruiser. As far as builds go, both were very enjoyable (about 4.5 hours each). I would say that the part variety for MOC building is probably a little better in the turbo tank. I don't find myself using large wedge plates for much of anything, and the frigate has a lot of them. The turbo tank on the other hand is pretty short on bricks and slopes of any kind. And the frigate has the large cylinders/cones and macaroni bricks. Kind of funny, but if you used the large wheels of the turbo tank for engines, with a few more wedge plates you could build a pretty close approximation of the frigate. But you couldn't build the tank from the frigate part kit. The tank will probably dissapear from shelves in the next 6 to 8 months. I think I would buy the tank, and then try to buy the frigate later. -
I don't see why a transparent figure without moveable limbs couldn't be done. Just like the original figs, with maybe a new scuplt that matches the current style a little better. 1) The torso would just have shoulder bumps tacked onto the standard torso shape that fade into the sides at the waist. 2) The legs would have the same side profile as regular legs, but be all one piece with no joints. The legs would be something like the legs used on the ink pen figures, without any holes for the impossible seated position. 3) The torso and legs should probably just have studs, instead of the posts, so you don't see them inside the part stacked on top. I can imagine that it could work out very well, depending upon how any printing was done. I think the bigest question, is how does a transparent hat/hair piece look on top of a transparent head? All of those visible surfaces could be a big distraction from the exterior shape of the fig or it's printing. It could look very busy. Another thing to consider is that any printing on one side would be visible from the back side, so that probably rules out double print heads. And torso print paterns would have to work when viewed from either side. But I can see how one side could be used to accent the patern on the reverse. Of course, it might work quite well if the parts had a frosted interior. That would solve the problems of double sided prints, and busy hair pieces.

How used is "used" on bricklink?
ButterMelon replied to antsiranean's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I've bought plenty of used parts that were in production during my DA. I've yet to recieve a part with bite marks on it. I have seen some yellowing, and some heavy scratches before. But I've also recieved plenty of parts that were listed as used, that didn't appear to every be used at all. I have also bought a few "new" parts that obviously were not. I have been shorted parts. And I've recieved the wrong parts. But overall, I've been very pleased with my experiences BrickLink. One thing I have noticed is that parts that are in current production, one's that you can go down to the store and buy new anytime, often cost more when listed as used. It doesn't make any sense at all, but I think it's caused by people excluding new parts from their searches. They just set "condition" to "used" and assume that new parts are going to cost more. If you look at the price guide for a part, you'll see these irrational purchases where people paid more for used parts pretty regularly. And I think some sellers are listing new parts as used, just because of that. Granted, "new" is almost always going to cost more than "used" if you're buying a vintage part that is out of production. -
My first set was "483 Alpha-1 Rocket Base" released in 1979. I was an avid fan of Lego all through my childhood, until my dark ages began. After about a 16 year gap I finally broke, and bought a Lego SW set. My wife has been absolutely no help in restraining my lego habit. It's her fault really. She was so relieved to find something that I liked but wouldn't buy for myself. That was about 7 years ago. Since then I've developed quite a collection of the new SW sets, retrieved my original collection from storage, and become a pretty regular user of BrickLink. And I have of course gotten over my inability to purchase Lego for myself. I think what really got me back into it was that when I left models were still mostly just a stack of plates and bricks. But during my dark ages the variety of parts really expanded, and the techniques used by Lego just exploded. I started connecting with the online comunity after a relative sent me a link to an article in Wired magazine about a contest that was hosted by FBTB. Since then I've entered a few contest there. I've been a lurker on EB for quite a while. I decided to sign up, just specifically to make this post. I would really like to find out if there are any other AFOLs in the Northeastern part of OK that would be interested in forming a local LUG. There's not really an active LUG in Oklahoma that I can find. Maybe someone else knows something that I do not. Anyway, I am seriously thinking about going to BrickFair in Birmingham Alabama in January, possibly as an exhibitor. And I think it could be a lot of fun to get together from time time with other AFOLs from the area. Maybe plan something for the Tulsa State Fair next year, and of course lobby TLG for a Lego store in Tulsa. I am mostly a SW nut, with a penchant for spacecraft that fit that theme. Here lately I've begun experimenting with Duplo combined with snot techniques, as a way to build large MOCs with smaller part counts.
