With Lego you can create anything and in any way but I personally prefer to stay within the limit of playable, even though that’s not the real reason that leads me to stay within the "minifigures scale". As well as in real life a car (and I don’t do this example at random, as cars are one of my passions) is built around the size of a human being, so must be in the Lego world, IMHO.
My philosophy is that an object should not be too small, so as not to lose too much detail, but not even too big, thus moving away from the dimensions of minifigures. And not by chance I say in the plural in reference to their size, since each vary depending on whether you consider the height, width or just the head.
