Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
theremin replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Now it's clear, thank you! I really wonder who is the designer. Must be someone who has never involved in the series before. -

The building looks stunning! It's completely different from any other building from the past of the series. Only the Diner compares in terms of "surprise". But there is something really weird in this leak... This one should be the 18th modular building, as the Boutique Hotel was celebrated for the 15th anniversary. -

Actually, this is true for all the existing modular buildings except the teal townhouse in the Bookshop. You can't exactly repeat its "middle" floor because of the door in the facade. So Lego partially broke the rule with that one. Anyway, I agree that a modular skyscraper would be quite boring to build. Honestly, I can't see a better solution than the current one, with a middle floor being expandable in every building if you want it to be taller. But ideally you should have the possibility to buy a sub-set with only the middle floor while the main set is in production. -

Marcos working on a modular building would be really interesting... Good guess! -

I also noticed that the minifig with the beard is undoubtedly Chris. The most likely guess is that the designer of the next modular is Anderson Grubb, who has made two of the last three. But I really hope it will be either Wes Talbott or Mike Psiaki. Wes's creations have elegance and an exceptional use of colour. His Bookshop has a lot of charm in my opinion. Mike is a true genius! He is the wizard of geometry in Lego and his Diner remains a unique piece in the modular collection. I also remember that in an interview it was mentioned that Mike designed a working elevator for modulars. In a residential building it could fit. -

I think it would be really boring to have a bathroom in every single building. I even find it repetitive and space-consuming to always have stairs, but actually it would be too much unrealistic without them Many people complain that the Bookshop needs more shelves and books. Personally I complain about having two beds in the same modular! To be honest, I would have preferred something different (and more original) rather than another bed. -

I didn't mean to cause trouble. Just wanted to share this information that I got from a private source and that I'm pretty confident about. What I know so far: - straight three-story modular, on a regular 32x32 baseplate; - really stylish exterior, with an Italian feeling; - it is not a single building, yet it can't be divided; - classical architecture and typical townhouse style are both represented and mixed; - unprecedented building technique for the roof; - color scheme is not as "flamboyant" as some latest modulars; - main theme is art-related, in a "funny" way; - a secondary business is linked to food; - primary subject is very prevailing, as well as the bank in the Brick Bank; - a small vehicle completes the scene; - six minifigures included, one of them represents a disabled person; - designer is Jamie Berard, coming back after the Assembly Square; - no black box distinctive of the adult-oriented series (to be confirmed); - it will be available in January at a price of 199,99$; - GWP car included at launch (winner of this contest). -

The car as GWP is the winner of this contest: https://ideas.lego.com/blogs/a4ae09b6-0d4c-4307-9da8-3ee9f3d368d6/post/bd37c50e-cead-44ce-8a6f-5c15c0967915 The modular itself includes a small vehicle (not a car). The set has 6 minifigures. In line with the aim of promoting inclusivity, one of them is disabled. -

The next modular has the usual baseplate indeed. -

It's way different from the Parisian Restaurant. The main theme is art, food plays a minor role. Just to give a general idea in terms of space distribution, you can imagine something similar to the Brick Bank. -

Following the Colosseum and the Fiat 500, even the new modular will be a tribute to Italy, with a focus on art and food. It's a combination of buildings that mix classical architecture and the typical Italian townhouse style, with a brand new technique for the roof. It will be available in January as usual, with a car as GWP. Surprisingly, it won't be part of the new adult-oriented line. This set also marks the return to the series of the former designer Jamie Berard. Unfortunately there are still a few weeks to the reveal...
