I have mixed feelings about Castle '08, but disagree with the contention that it represents a step backward from 2007. Fantasy factions have always been, by definition, less realistic and more thrown-together than the "good guys" and therefore less solid. For example, the Skeleton Prison Carriage and Wizard's Tower look a little weak and overembellished next to the Crown Knights sets, as did the Fright Knights next to the Royal Knights. So, the troll faction sets are just being consistent with Lego's past track record on castle fantasy themes. Heck, they may be a little better. *y*

I hate to say it, but that Best Lock JP1 set looked more accurate than the Lego Studios JP3 sets put together. I mean, come on! Licensed sets deserve unique figs, not just quick and easy stand-ins from other themes (Adventurers). >:-( [rant over]

Wow! I love how strong the support structure looks; it is a great step forward from the comparitively fragile one of the UCS Star Destroyer, so I expect that 10179 won't suffer from the structural sagging/warping problems of the ISD. Still, it might be hard to MOD in an interior, especially with all the red Technic pins. But why quibble? Great set!

It is a quasi-limited edition, since, in the USA at least, Target will be the only retailer besides LEGO brand stores to carry it. On the bright side, Target has a great reputation for deep clearances, so...saving money on! *y*

One would think that Lego would have learned that lesson from the old 2003 TIE Bomber. I remember it being clearanced out pretty much everywhere (as can be seen from the secondary market, where it has not appreciated as much as other SW sets); I bought mine for $17 a few years ago. And that lack of success was without the 7664's handicaps of a $20 higher price and zero screentime. I just don't see this particular foray into the EU ending well for TLG.

My favorite would definitely be the blacksuited officer/pilot from the 7166 Imperial Shuttle. Unless I am mistaken, he only appeared in that one set. *y*
