  1. Depends. Buildingwise it's still not a good station, but the price point is way better. 600+ pieces for 60€ instead of 750 pieces for 100€. Although now I see 60246 on sale for 60€ (and even lower). The garbage truck looks really nice and the K-9 truck looks better than the one from 60246. Personally I found the police brick box 60270 to be quite nice if you could find it discounted heavily (down to 20-25€), a perfect gift for a smaller child but 40€ was way too expensive. I guess when 60316 gets down to 40€ or lower it will be a really attractive purchase.
  2. I bought 60312 because I got it with 25% discount already. I too like 60239 better and I still stand by that. The best part about 60312 is the 1x4 brick with the "police" print, looks great on 60239 as well. As for 60312 itself I think it's a bulkier, less elegant version of the police sports car in 60242. With holes around the wheelhouses and the roof, and a pretty minimalistic front and rear, for example no turn lights, and only tiny headlights. Maybe a couple of changes might bring a better result, but I haven't looked into that yet.
  3. Jingoism coupled with a decade-old second hand anecdote as proof. What a combination.
  4. At least LEGO has enough sets left to give 3in1 value packs (66682) to retailers, this year's pack contains 60239, 60241 and 60242 for 30€. But there is a difference between selling out and being temporarily unavailable and retiring/going out of production. LEGO does not "find" additional sets.
  5. The successor is due in January, so yes, the patrol car is retiring soon. As for the Beach Rescue ATV, it's not the only one to retire, 60279, 60285, 60288, 60289 and 60290 all came out at the same time as 60286 and are now retiring. Maybe they didn't sell that well, or they want to swap these smaller "impulse purchase" sets out for new ones more often than in the past etc.
  6. Last year the pics surfaced in the beginning of October, so I would say to expect something to appear in a week or two.
  7. Moon base would be very cool. A nice way to use the crater baseplates again. Oh I loved my 6971.
  8. The thing is, with their new roads they might go back to more 4-stud-wide city cars (and to keep their pricepoint). If you go by piececount, the school set will only have 45 pieces more than the Modern Family Home 60291, so it will hardly be some nice school building, more something built from many panels as walls and windows and a pretty small interior. The bus won't be something nice, the bus from 60154 surely had 200 pieces, this one will come in at 100-130 at maximum? I would be very surprised if it was bigger and more detailed than that. Maybe more of a yellow van than a real bus.
  9. Problem is that to make a decent building prices would be prohibitive for families, even more so than they are already. All these MyCity sets are pretty expensive, most people won't buy 3, 4, 5 of these sets to combine them to a town, especially if only some City buildings are immediately compatible. And for people wishing special road plates in farm or zoo sets, that's basically the worst thing that could happen to such sets, because these roadplates make the sets even more expensive. Throw in more animals/minifigs and bigger buildings and cut the plates or lower the price point.
  10. My guess is that it will look a lot like 60291, only two stories for the building, not very deep, roadplate at the front for the busstop and a very stylized and simplified school bus, so 6 year-olds can play with it.
  11. The new police car must either be small or 4+, only 51 pieces compared to the 92 pieces of 60239. And 60239 is a great set, so now I have doubts that its successor will be as good. The new Mobile Command sounds interesting, same price as the old one, one less minifig but 60 more pieces.
  12. Vehicles are not necessarily more European, 60139 was still a North American style truck. 60239 was based on a Dodge Charger, 60242 looks like an US-style muscle car like a Mustang. The more I think about it, the less I feel they will change the colour scheme, unless they move into some special police territory like the doomed Elite/Night Police last year, because City is mostly based on the TV-series and I don't think they will deviate too much from the show. And they will definitely try to avoid obvious similarities to an existing US police force to avoid a backlash like they got for their Elite/Night Police.
  13. End Of Life = end of production
  14. My guess would be a standard police wave since a lot of police sets are supposed to reach EOL at the end of this year (60139, 239, 241, 242, 244, 245 and 246). Maybe we will see a colour scheme change.
  15. I highly doubt it (for me it doesn't say police) and it's a "My City" Subtheme set. Without "My City" in the name although all the other ones have it in their name. We also can't see what prefix some of the sets names have (the 3 police sets, the lifeguard set and this ominous nr. 28 set). Everyone has mulitmillion pixel cameras in their pockets and this is shot with a potato.
  16. The nice thing about these sets are the animals, the rest is pretty basic, to say it nicely. It's pretty obvious that it's just about the animals and you pretty much don't get anything else. Pricing is insane, a 10€, a 45€ 4+ set and a 90€ and 100€ set? It's clearly designed for people who want the animals, so you have to pay premium and there are no real intermediate sets... 60307 is supposed to be an Animal Rescue Camp, where the hell is the camp? The treehouse-lookout? I expected a makeshift outdoor vet practice, maybe with an operating table, a crane to lift up animals, something along those lines, not some rudimentary trees, a tiny creek, a cave and dudes sitting on a watchtower-tree that the lions could easily climb. Looks more like a safari scene than a rescue scene. I would have put the ultralight plane from 60307 with a tree and the eagle plus the nest and the egg in the 10€ box instead of the ubiquitous ATV. The Unimog from 60307 with a vet and a driver plus 2 smaller injured animals as a 20-30€ set (because animals cost a premium), serving as an animal ambulance. 60302: Helicopter plus elephants and croc and the the rubber boat and drop the price to 50€ instead of 90€. 60301 can stay as is, but should be at least 5€ cheaper. And as I wrote above 60307 should have been a real base camp, with the lab from 60302, a vet practice, the ATV, the tracked vehicle, a crane, a number of animals, supplies etc. Shame the sets are designed to be just a cash grab and not a good product.
  17. Yes, it very much looks like an Unimog. They seem tor try to design using real life references.
  18. Interesting that they included a snorkel on the truck.
  19. The "Great Vehicles" line was never a sign for anything. We had the food trucks, tree transport truck, couple years later the forest tractor, harvesters and now a tractor, transports of boats, cars, bikes, several communal service vehicles, construction vehicles, tow trucks etc. It never amounted to anything, and it doesn't have to, it's just a line of different vehicles. Maybe they will bring a farm if people buy the wildlife sets for the animals and TLC thinks they can print money with cows, pigs and sheeps. For the new roads, it's just indicative of TLC's bad PR and planning. They had a product (baseplates and roadplates) they abandoned for years with exceptions (modulars), now they bring in a new product because the old one is expensive for TLC, but the new one is more expensive for the consumer. They make it 2 plates high instead of just one, they make it 16x16 to keep it in line with the 8/16/32 system but because in the past they made their cars bigger it's now too small for most of their cars to be used in both directions simultaneously (which was the reason they changed the older roadplates from 16 to 20 studs wide roads). They don't produce 16x32, 32x32 and 48x48 (or whatever) plates so you can't replace the respective baseplates. That there are not enough tiles in the sets to connect them or to close holes left by other stuff, that the crossing set has not enough traffic lights and street signs to be correct, all of that adds to the problems especially at the price point they are now. It's just a shame and could have been handled so much better. I won't be getting any of the bigger new city sets except the hideout, the rest is just not enough bang for the buck and for me not even aesthetically pleasing.
  20. Exactly, if you want better houses you have to go to Creator. Get 31097, 31105 and the new 31118. With 25-30% discount you get some nice sets (few minifigs though) but in my book much more bang for your buck than with the new city sets like 60292 and 60306. And you can buy more of the creator sets and build their other variations too.
  21. Going to save a lot of money, because nothing in this new wave seems to be something I like. Wildlife rescue after they already have that theme in Friends but with only 3 sets?
  22. Love the fact that the dynamite factory/storage building is 8 studs deep and (if you take the dynamite stick off) you can use it as a pretty generic building in your city. Although the truck seems to be modelled after a PMV Survivor, I would downsize the wheels one size to make it look less comical. Only one new road plate for a building this deep but I guess they had to cut cost somewhere. And I really hope that the 100€ price point will be right , so you can get it for 70€ or less on sale easily.
  23. You can already order some of the new stuff from multiple online stores, usually 10-20% off, the fire sets, smaller police sets (no boat), the skate park, family home and city center. No great vehicles.
  24. Maybe it will be an Exclusive so we won't see it in the retail catalogue. On the other hand , the Police Boat wasn't in the Swiss Catalogue either so who knows. Or it was postponed due to Covid or whatever.
  25. There is a pretty big reason to not have curves, you don't really need them for the purpose of the new road system. To be able to quickly connect roads and buildings to form a street/city. It's hard to connect a building to curves, building a sidewalk makes problems, it just adds difficulty to an relatively easy system and in reality, curves are rather negligible in a town/city enviroment compared to (t-)crossings and straights.
