Heroica RPG - Quest #159: An Unexpected Return
Palathadric replied to Waterbrick Down's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Who's Kayla? I'm sorry, from the way you talk, it sounds like I should know. But I really can't say I recall meeting someone with that name...Forgive me if I've forgotten. But I'm still not sure I agree with you as far as Patricia is concerned. It's obvious that Patricia is reluctant to believe in Heroica, we are too wild and free, if you will, for her. But this city will need someone who can enforce laws and I don't think we are the ones to do it. We are too...compassionate, perhaps? Granted, she's not a person who is good to have at the top, making the decisions, but for enforcing the decisions that are made and ensuring that they are stuck to...? I'm sure that we all wish for a Eubric that is free to be itself, but discipline has to be ingrained in people's minds and hearts first before freedom can mean anything. "If we're going with the plan of blowing up the fort. 'Tis a shame, really, it is a nice fort... Then I suggest we get a move on, but I'm with Arthur in that I'm not letting this fort blow until I'm sure that Illdria and the rest of her crew aren't here." "Will you return to Eubric with us?" Petaldan diplomatically asks the sailors. -
Not at all.

Heroica RPG - Quest #159: An Unexpected Return
Palathadric replied to Waterbrick Down's topic in The Heroica Archive
"I agree with you. Captain Cousland for the most part has done this city good and has fought to clean up the Watch. You should have seen it before she got there. Unfortunately, I think some of us would do well to take our own counsel to heart and be willing to work together with those who have the best interests of the city at heart, even if their methods of achieving those goals vary from our own. One must be wary of those who hold too much personal ambition. "As for the paladins. I have mixed feelings about them, but it seems to me that some among our ranks are so desperate to avoid others judging them, that they would rather fight against those that do rather than examine to see whether those things could be true. To be honest, your coming, even if it was due to the influence of demonic forces, has done a lot of good. If for nothing else, it seems to have helped to wake up some of us, including our veterans as well... "This may be an odd question, but if I may ask...can you feel pain in your current body? Do you feel anything at all? If you scratch yourself, do you bleed? This Pixie Dust is a mighty strange substance to be sure." "Yes. I, for one, wish to see that that freedom lives on. I may not deem your methods as being good ones, but perhaps this revolution was just what was needed to give this city a fresh start. I think most heroes would agree with me, that while we have done great work in protecting Eubric from threats from outside, we have not done as much as we should have to change the inner workings of the city for good. That must definitely change." -

"I think we all pretty much agreed before this rot started that the old had to be done away with and that all this politicking had to stop at some point. Why try to revive what has already been destroyed when we well know that it was worthless?" -
Truly smooth.

"Forgive me if I missed it in our former conversation, but is the Golden Dragon's corpse still there, or has it disappeared? I'm sure our friends would be interested in seeing it." -
My main point was the amount of times a QM has hosted a player, and I really didn't think you were on so many Endgame quests, but I guess I could be wrong. Kinto/Endgame just seemed so much stronger. You were more of a side chick.

"I think some things regarding how you got here we may be able to explain...at least a little bit. There have been a lot of...happenings leading up to your arrival. Too much to be a coincidence. I'm not sure that I'm the best one to explain it all though." -
I always just picture people like their characters. I don't think I"ll ever be able to see WBD as not a big, friendly ogre. Even when you were talking about Asphalt and the hurricane, in the back of my mind I'm sort of thinking. "He's a big lad, he's fought through worse things before."

Petaldan sheaths his sword, a few tears of gratitude steal from his eyes. Pretzel drifts to the ground on his Flying Cross, sighing with relief, but too overcome with the tension that had been holding him to actually say or do anything. Waldorf looks around him. "**** man, is that it? Whoa. Freaky! I guess I'll just go and mourn Annie...or whatever." -
Yeah, the fact that a lot of us are in different time zones and are always on at different times makes it impossible for the game to just "flow," which is I think why the "talking is a free action" will basically need to stay, otherwise it would become dull having to always wait for others. Are you serious? Wow. You've really missed out. Really! Actually, maybe later I'll look over the quests and see who has been hosting who the most, etc. Could be interesting. I know Kintobor and Endgame have a thing.

Heroica RPG - Quest #159: An Unexpected Return
Palathadric replied to Waterbrick Down's topic in The Heroica Archive
Petaldan speaks diplomatically to the Founders, directing his focus on the Miracle Worker. "Oh, sir, please, sir. I think we do need mercy. I mean...we need justice too, really, but I think we really have tried to make Eubric a better place and protect the people. Perhaps, sometimes the houses have used our good intentions for their own shenanigans, but even they, can be really nice people. Perhaps they are just deceived by their wealth, riches, and traditions. Most of the people from the houses that I have met have been really very nice people, people who you, or I at least, wouldn't be able to hurt outright if we really knew them. But that is beside the point. I think though that even if we disagree on some issues, we all really do want to see Eubric at peace and happy again (though I can't say I know if it ever was). The fact is that even the veterans of Heroica, who you seek to depose of, are, at this moment, putting their lives on the line to protect Eubric from the threat of a demonic invasion. They themselves realize that they have not been guiding Heroica as well as they should have, and they truly are sorry to, I think. But again, just because we've not done all that we should have, that doesn't mean that we haven't been trying to make the city a better place. "The people who are going to be hung today, know the good that we've done and realized that we are sincere in our actions. That is why they chose to stand with us, even at the cost of their lives, because they trust and believe in us. They trust and believe in us, is because they have seen us work. Sir, I would so hate for them, having sacrificed for me, to die because I neglected to fight for them when they needed my help. To be honest with you, sir, I think that if you are trying to make Eubric a better place, those very people who were willing to resist you for what they knew to be right are the people you should think of working with, not those who just side with you because they see that you are the most popular and powerful force in Eubric at present. That latter kind of person is the kind that will be swayed and run to any tyrant who comes along, whereas those who stick by what they believe, through thick and thin, are the ones who will build a better Eubric, a less selfish one...I think." -
I'm not sure I agree. While I'm grateful to WBD for putting so much into this battle. These are the founders of Heroica we are debating with (even if they are just Pixie dust versions of them). If we don't talk to them now, then when are we going to get a chance to talk to them? If it's when they're already beaten, then it's a very different scenario and doesn't have the same tension. While just getting into the battle is great, I don't think most of us play this game to be able to say I attack so-and-so from the Front Row, etc.
-
I approve of this plan.

Oh, please! Did we need to mention that. Ruined a perfectly good day for me.

Wholeheartedly agree. While some of the license themes are really good (even great), there just seems to be something very liberating about these sets. Kind of seeing the way the designers just went ahead and created something out of the blue sort of encourages one to do the same. Not sure if I can put it into words. As much as I like some license themes, I don't think they can ever compete with the true classics. Nostalgia really is a wonderful thing.
-
I am younger than these sets, but my older brother had some of them. I can remember just staring for hours and hours at the catalogues and drinking everything in. These pictures bring back such good memories. I love this period, especially Classic Castle so much, which is why I made a lot of these sets for the "Official LEGO Sets in LDraw" topic. Most of these I never owned or had the chance to play with, but building them in LDraw was in some small way like living an experience that I wished I had as a kid. Definitely, late 80s to early 90s was TLG's Golden Age. PS: So sorry if I'm bumping this topic. I don't often look at the home page, because it tends to take a while to load, but when I saw this topic, I couldn't not comment on it. Thank you so much for posting, WhiteFang!

Petaldan's defense is useless against the Walking Mountain... -
So...I don't get it. Should Petaldan go ahead and use his Smoke Bomb or is everyone else going to hang around anyway?

Pretzel equips the Pheles Kris and returns to the Harbour. "Throlar, I suggest you use the scroll I gave you and we will attempt to nullify this mountain man in the same way as we did previously." Petaldan, is about rushing to the walls when he suddenly finds himself caught in the harbour with the great and might Founders of Heroica. His legs tremble a little at the awful sight, especially of the gigantic dragon. "**** man!" gasps Waldorf. "We're so dead." -

"But from what we've heard, they basically are the Founders in personality...as in, if the Founders really were alive, they would have done basically just what they are doing. It's not like they're demonically possessed from what we've learned. Their revival was a mere accident of sorts. Of course, when it comes down to it, we have to side where we must, but I have too much respect for even a pixie dust representation of our Founders to just destroy them without trying to persuade them. If it's all in vain, so be it. "Euflear, I wonder if they would listen to you...or do you also think they are not worth our time?" -
Heroica RPG - Quest #159: An Unexpected Return
Palathadric replied to Waterbrick Down's topic in The Heroica Archive
"They chose to help us because they know that we have fought, time and again, for the good of this city. Perhaps you are right that this city is sinking in a downwards spiral. Perhaps we need to take some responsibility that we didn't do enough to prevent it. But I can say that if it had not been for Heroica's influence over the past few years, this city would have gone under a long time ago. It's true that perhaps we have sometimes, unwittingly aided the cause of unjust people. Though, I believe I can say with a clear conscience that none of us did so intentionally. Most all of us have fought for the good of this city time and again. However, you must also realize that a justice that puts to death anyone whose opinions for what is good for this city differ from your own is not justice anymore. It is tyranny. I know that you do not intend to be tyrants. That never was Heroica's goal and I believe you seek to be the embodiment of all that Heroica truly stands for. That is why it pains me to see you fighting so relentlessly against us against all these others who you seek to execute, but who, with us, have been just about the only force for the past decade struggling to make this city a better place." -
Heroica RPG - Quest #159: An Unexpected Return
Palathadric replied to Waterbrick Down's topic in The Heroica Archive
"We are merely here trying to free those you seek to execute. They are good people and have done nothing wrong, that I know about. If these men died, it's because they sought to prevent us from helping the victims of your injustice. And if you think you are helping the city so much, may I ask you if you even know what ills plague this city? Why have you been holed up here in this fort while demons have literally been seeking to turn this city into some kind of necropolis? Some of us have been out fighting to ensure that does not happen, even the veterans that you accused. It is true that we may have taken wrong turns some times, but we have sacrificed for this city and we are not willing to let this city become some demon's playground. If you can't see that is what it is becoming, then that is all the more reason why you should step down and return to the graves from whence you came. If, however, you really want this city's good. Then perhaps you will join with our band in putting down the archdemon, Rosier, who is the foe of us all. But, if that is to happen, you will first have to release those whom you hold in this prison." -

"Euflear..." Petaldan begins a bit hesitantly. "Do you think there's any way that you will be able to convince the resurrected founders not to persist in what they are doing? Surely, if they really aren't the evil force, but only revived by chance, they cannot be all bad and may be reasoned with?"[/color] Hearing Throlar's plea to the remaining guards, Pretzel checks himself. A sickening feeling comes over him as he thinks about how readily he participated in the killing of the soldiers. Why was he so willing to kill these men when he hadn't been willing to put down those whom he knew. But good men will die if these men can carry out their orders and we must not let that happen...but still, they deserve their chance. By the Name of Theleg Oco the Great, may they accept his offer. -
