Dacta Control Lab Software
legoROBOLAB replied to Dazmundo's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I liked your reflection. The real dilemma is us wanting to teach something basic to our students in the face of today's society, and the dual educational/commercial nature of LEGO. About LEGO's archives... I have the same opinion, either they're not good, or they don't want to help us... although they know that we "help" them when we talk and post about their products. Let's continue on our paths... it's no coincidence that we still use Control Lab and Robolab... new isn't always better. It's different, but not inherently better. -

Okay... my blog is a repository of books and software (not currently used or commercialized) from LEGO Education. This way, everything is in one place. Similarly, I'm a teacher registered in the LEGO Education forum and I announced there the existence of the online Control Lab. I think that if the old software can run online, like the interface A, TC Logo, lego lines or dacta ( for sensors) and the 1997 code pilot... it's always a added value for the history of these products and for LEGO itself. The program works well online. Obviously, I haven't tested the COM ports yet. As for projects, I only have those for the intelligent house. Thank you for your work and for sharing. -

It seems incomplete... Robolab 1.5 is much more extensive. Am I doing something wrong? -

Good morning. It's sad news that we can't identify COM1 or COM2. However, DOSBox on the PC has several menus, including the configuration menu. Personally, I don't have the technical knowledge to solve the problem, but I ask: "Couldn't a version of DOSBox already configured for COM1 be uploaded to archive.org?" I appreciate all your efforts; we all know that if we ever manage to get the B interface working online, it will be the first step towards uploading other old LEGO devices... thank you very much. (I'm attaching two images, one with all apps connected to DOSBox and the configuration menu.) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lxvii5yXG1sWP1z1_OVM0nBMpOWFluyh/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1l0JupcIA-WY9yeVhPYVC5ITv27FYNk4A/view?usp=sharing -

That's awesome!!!!!! I'm going to test it with my interface B.... Congratulations, the idea is very original.... and it comes at a good time, since LEGO is discontinuing Spike this year and for now only the LEGO Science kits remain.... This way we continue to have at our fingertips all the good things that LEGO Education has done over the years. Congratulations again!!!! P.S: I'll be sharing this achievement on my blog... even those without an interface will be able to see the program. -

Good morning friends Sorry to "change" the topic of this forum's conversation, but I was asking for your help. Interface B was launched by LEGO with software produced by LCSI - ControlLab. But in Europe it was also marketed by LEGO with TechnoLogica software and with Coach Junior - the first launched by Phantom II from Israel and the second by CMA from the Netherlands. In the USA, LEGO Engineer was created by Tufts, but without LEGO sponsorship (yet). I wonder if they know of any other software released at the time (1993 and beyond until 2000 +-) that had LEGO's declared support? I'm placing here two images of the LEGO manuals for Interface B. TechnoLogica and Junior Coach. Thank you very much for your attention and support. Leonardo -

Lars... you can use the sensor adapter with only LogIt sensors... Vernier sensors i think you can't... but I will see later. In this version you have the INVESTIGATOR , that wasn't i earlier versions... Make use of 2.5.4 mixing RCX with interface B.... I will go to do the same... and then will see if 2.5.4 is the answer for your problem. -

Hello Lars Using robolab 2.5.4. It seems to me that it works well... watch the short video... the engine is running very slowly. I pressed the STOP key on interface B and the movement was suspended. I charged it again, and the engine continued to run slowly, as programmed... and it has never failed (so far). https://drive.google.com/file/d/1X6YJdkGoQf5T7zpQSAVJvuy_faQqEKPb/view?usp=sharing You can get RoboLab 2.5, here https://legoeducacional-umcontributo.blogspot.com/search?q=robolab+ This is my blog... make a click over the image of RoboLab 2.5 ... and the archiv.org will give you a version of it. -

Lars I have identical problems. I'll see if robolab 2.5 has the same problems... I used Windows XP SP3 and robolab version 2.9.4.c. (I have the impression that there was an upgrade to 2.9.4. due to the use of sensors... but I'll look for that information) -

Yes... sometimes there are mistakes... but I have to spend more time analyzing them. Because there are messages that say it doesn't work... and then it works... and then it doesn't work... in conclusion... I have to spend some time. -

Good morning I haven't had time to help with this debate... however I made a short video where robolab 2.9.4 controls the control lab with a motor on port B. I should have more time... but at the moment I can't... um hug to everyone. https://drive.google.com/file/d/13S33Ql7HHK8iMMosYiPe841Y80DnVG0A/view?usp=sharing windows XP - robolab 2.9.4 - pc with com1 port - Lego cable this is a answer to "Everyone I now also want to run interface B , rcx and nxt using robolob 2.9 on windows xp using natively serial port . Can anybody confirm that the interface B actually works well on this platform. Best Lars " -

Thanks for the support... In fact, the 6.3 mm jack is connected to the current input. As for the cables with holes in the center of the plates, I checked that the LEGO 9701 instructions had cables like that in their photos... so it is a product from the beginning of Control Lab. I send photos with the numbers of the electronic elements. Just a few more small notes from my personal observation (be careful, I don't understand anything about electronics). When I put a 9v motor in the Imputs (it's strange, isn't it?) I regulate its speed with the highest button and invert the direction of rotation by clicking on the black button next to the imput board (which appears to be a fuse, but it isn't) . This works more or less well on all input ports, although the motor, or light or sound, works but not with the full power we see when we put a motor/light/sound on the Control Lab test port. The ports that are designated on the device as output do nothing (yet...) and with the multimeter I check that there is no current. Another very intriguing aspect for me, which I always try to remedy with LEGO rcx cables, I have noticed over the years that the cables on the latest boxes (for example 9794 version 2005) are made of plastic and not rubber, which means that these never they get damaged.... but... but look closely... these 2X2 LEGO sockets have a strong gap at the top, they have two holes between the pins (some of them...) and no matter how much I check mine cables from control Lab I haven't found one like this yet... this way I could date the manufacture... patience! Finally I bought this equipment in the UK. Another curiosity, the inputs and outputs are numbered as in interface A, which has less voltage and different plugs... A mystery to me... Thank you for your help... I send here 3 photos of the interior, after unscrewing the 4 screws, there is a plate, two photos of both sides of it, and the last photo is of the inside of the box where the buttons are fixed. On the outside there is a switch, next to it an electricity intake (exactly the same as the control lab and RCX, as it works with their transformer) and another one whose purpose I don't know. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1z8QH_c8V_M2EUCj-F3b_HvkCrHsOUskL/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Gxp5h18GOh2Dq8uem3C05vPRCTdTv6B_/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1NOvENBU2tVW8_hlqabPS5JRDf7f4YtEA/view?usp=sharing -

Good Morning It's an extremely important video as I've never seen it for sale... and nowadays VHS is rare... and converting to digital is even rarer. It was a great contribution to the collective knowledge of this LEGO Education software/product. Thank you very much for sharing, and especially thank you to whoever did all this video conversion work and made it available to all of us. Thank you very much. -

Thank you very much for your answer and making your control lab programming available. I think that, as on the internet, information disappears easily, blogs like mine and videos like yours are a valid contribution to anyone looking for information about LEGO products that had their time in the 90s, long before this century, and the internet globally available..
