I'm on FB Lego castle/Lotr group (one of VERY few reason why I'm still on FB) and the're still huge diehard castle fans there , and the group is quite active every day. Even in my country Lego group, there's still tons of people who's still interested in the theme. In this forum though , I noticed there's probably less than 10 active posters in this section.

I believe so, but maybe not in near future. Castle has made a return multiple times in the past , even though this time it's been like 7 years. Pirate also returned once so there's always possibility. However, it seems that they're focusing on "Lego ideas" for themes like Castle and Pirate. If those sets does well, we'll probably get more of that or perhaps another full fledge castle theme.

They probably avoid raised baseplate or even standard big baseplate to cut production cost. I have Castle Siege and I put 48 x 48 baseplate behind it and looks way better than hollow center.

Its a unisex cloth in my opinion. Kinda like the Musketeer & Lederhosen guy CMF torso.

I wonder why they dont even come up with updated Lion knights/Crusaders at least on CMF. I mean, they've come up with many castle themes minifigs over the years but somehow it took them forever to finally made Black falcon knight. There has been Heroic knight, Evil knight, Frightening knight , Fright knight, Forestman, Rogue (Wolfpack), Classic King, Queen but still no Crusaders.

Both, its not like Lego will ever makes it solely for adults if they really come up with a new Castle theme . The media tie in can also lure the kids fans. So its certainly not gonna be something which a 10 year old kids wont be able to build. When I was a kid I also have some of the technic sets even though its actually aimed for older people. If its solely for adults, then it would be something like "ideas" Medieval blacksmith which is a full fledge adult set . It could be something like Medieval market village which 10-12 year old can also build but its more complex than the usual Castle sets.

Yes, the media tie in is important these days , that's why I suggested a TV series like Ninjago with trailer of the episodes being uploaded on Lego youtube channel. As for named characters, I believe some of the old castle/kingdomes minifigs also has name (Majisto, Leo, Mathias, Vladek, Danju, Basil), but obviously it was never planned as long running series unlike NInjago, Chima and Nexo. As for limited budgets of the parents, this wouldnt be a problem if they ever come up with new Castle theme (with proper and bigger promotion) that is aimed for adult fans. These people (including many of us here) would even buy multiple of the same sets.

Those short TV ads and short stories were more like formality rather than a real big budget promotion. Its merely like announcing "here, there's a new Lego sets coming out" in comparison to what they're doing with Ninjago, which continuously being promoted.

I actually like Clutch powers. Its a blend of city, space and castle themes and its a cool adventure movie. However, they certainly didnt promote or treat it as blockbuster movie from the get go. I think Lego should have at least a CGI TV series for Castle or Pirate theme to accompanny the sets and put some trailer on their official youtube channel.

There's nothing wrong with it. City theme is basically the same stuff every single year, and people still buy it. Ninjago can be successful because Lego is willing to spend big $$ to push and promote the theme. There's TV series, there's magazine there's video game , accessories sets etc. So Lego is basically able to create a trend that makes today's kids deem Ninjago as "Cool". Does Lego ever do this for Castle or Pirate themes many years ago? absolutely not. So as for how Lego will be able to sell new castle theme to current generation... that's their problem to solve. Otherwise, just go for easy route....license themes.
-
This is true and to me its stupid when everytime I try to discuss about this issue, someone will just pointing how today's kids aint into that kind of stuff and Lego will always go with what's popular. That's saddest part with today's Lego company mindset and mentallity. Intsead of becoming trend setter, they ended up just following the trend. A brand as big as Lego should have become TREND SETTER instead of just following trend and relying on licensed themes! Also, there's no such thing as "people aint into medieval/castle themes anymore" . Well,Tolkien stuff always remains popular in pop culture and in recent years, Game of thrones has been the biggest TV series. City theme has been coming up with similar stuff over and over with similar colour scheme and design and they still never stop doing it.

Why Ancient Rome never became an official theme?
Brick_Rattlehead replied to astral brick's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I think they simply prefer to add another licensed theme than making a new unique theme. At the end of the day , its about making quick profit. The LOTR and Harry Potter themes seems to be castle theme replacement for them. Some people say the kids and adults in general simply dont have much interest on medieval/castle themes which is a baseless observation. Brands such as Game of thrones, Harry Potter and LOTR remains popular to these days.- 7 replies

I've been playing Lego since I was a kid in late 80s and I owned at least few sets from each factions from late 80's up to Castle Siege . I remember when playing with my younger brother, the bad guys has always been the Wolfpack , Black knight , and later on the Fright knight, while Black falcon and Forestman being a neutral side. Then again, this is just my own imagination. However, certain factions are meant to be the bad/evil sides according to Lego official info. For example, the more recent factions that comes from minifigs series such as Evil knight and Frighetning knight, the official bio for these characters says that they've worked with the baddies such as Basil the batlord and Cedric the Bull.

Nice little structure. I'm big fan of the theme.
