  1. Just thought i'd ask on here as it's related to a harry potter set and not sure where else to ask. But i'm trying to restore all the parts for the 2nd or 3rd edition of the Hogwarts express and just noticing especially with 1x4, 1x6, 1x8 and 1x10 bricks that there are some with hollow tubes underneath and some with solid tubes (obviously different generations of LEGO). My question is, do you consider a set to be "complete" if it has different variations of the same piece? Just come to the realisation this is probably the case with dozens of sets I put together from a bulk lot a couple of years back, but never noticed.

  2. For those who don't do any major moc's to the sets like myself. What do you do with the small builds from the advent calendar? Have you found any particularly useful places within the current framework or the sets to add the advent calendar items? Do you just scatter them around your sets? Or take them apart and put them in the bag?

Particularly interested if anyone has any particularly good ideas of where to add them to the sets. I'd love to find a better use for some of the builds. But i've never liked things that aren't "attached" to my builds.

Big props @ Lego for 4 female characters to two male, *and* half of them not being white. Think the dresses look fantastic. Slightly sad that there’re no animals other than the chocolate frog, though.

Is there a reason people are particularly dissappointed by the lack of animals? I agree it would be nice, but I don't think last year really set a precedent to expect them this year unless i'm mistaken?

Are the micro or mini builds (whatever they are called) such as the ship and carriage useful to people with the D2C castle? Or are they a bit out of scale with it?

  4. Well I'm definitely agree that the new minifigures are 100x better than last years. To be honest, last years figures were particularly boring. Flitwick took his jacket off. Hermione had a slightly shorter scarf than CMF dean thomas and Harry and Ron just had torsos with a big letter on them. So to get two completely exclusive, don't exist in any other form characters and another in a fully printed new outfit is amazing. Builds are all a bit meh! But when does an advent calendar ever have an exciting build?

Looking at the builds, 50%-60% of them are actually just slight variations on builds from last years advent calendar.

  5. I know it's not a very exciting minifigure to leak. But i'm really happy with it as a leak. Basically between these two leaks it's given absolute certainty that the DA set is coming and the combination of the two figures basically squashes any notions of it being microscale or anything of the like as I cannot see Harry Potter and the Ice Cream guy being on some special stand in the likes of the Hogwarts Founders! :-D I know people have been confirming things. But these two figures have given me certainty! :-D

In addition to @Guyon2002's answer, to me it seems also that the CMF was done by different designers than the minifigures in the sets, because the trio especially use a different "design language" for their faces and look. They're almost like alternate versions of the characters and not meant to seamlessly match up with the versions in the set, the plus side being that one can easily use their parts for different characters (besides Harry's head) without muddling things.

Just wondering... is it just me or is the printing on the CMF figures printed at a slightly larger scale? Eyes look bigger and more spread apart from each other and their mouths to me.

I know. I don’t really want a whole box. But I want a full set. Buying full sets on eBay is usually really expensive, plus they always have ridiculous postage prices to Australia. This time we can’t feel so I have no idea what I’m going to do.

Can you really not go to your local Kmart or Target and feel for the ones you need? Are you in Victoria? Just wondering because I had no problems going down and feeling the previous CMF series while we were still in lockdown. Not really seeing any reason i'm not going to be able to do the same again for the Harry Potter wave in Tassie. Honestly if you are seriously stuck. i'm happy to feel a second set out for you if you were just wanting to pay the retail price plus postage.

While we wait for some news I got the new Hidden side piece today so did a quick moc of the Attack on the Burrow with Bellatrix apparating. i think the piece is great, works really well.

Can those pieces be attached directly to the torso rather than to legs?

Also am I the only one that feels like I die a little inside every day I wake up and there's still no news on the CMF or D2C? Lol. I think i'm just bursting with anticipation in regards to the D2C as I have never bought a large D2C set before. Really, really excited at the prospect.

Am I the only one that thinks the older Hogwarts style just doesn’t look good with the new one? No offense to anyone’s MOCs, they’re very well done, I just don’t think the styles mix

It doesn't look great. But I personally prefer having things feel a bit more complete even with the style conflict rather than the long very incorrect layout that LEGO proposes. I unfortunately don't have the creativity or money to complete my sets as amazing as @Whovastron (very jealous by the way). But yeah, basically I've just been trying to make a complete as possible castle with existing LEGO sets. :-) Hoping when I can be bothered that I can replace some of the sand green parts with dark bluish gray in the future, but Bricklink is a bit dicey at the minute due to all the shipping prices and issues.

May I ask just out of curiosity what aspect you specifically don't think looks good? Is it the overall style difference? Or is it mainly the mismatch of colours? Genuinely curious! :-D

    Wow that looks really good

i have something similar. Although I noticed that you didn’t use the dumbledore’s office from the 2010. I use that as well although the clock tower had one.

I'd love to see your arrangement too if you get the chance! :-)

  11. Just thought I'd share for those who don't have any MOC"Ability" like myself how the current Hogwarts sets plus the 4th Edition Hogwarts (4842), Hogwarts (4867) and Freeing Dobby (4736) can actually come together to make a pretty decent imaginging of the original Hogwarts Castle. Other than moving segments around, the only points that have had adjustments are connection points to either add or adjust connections to match up. :-)

The room of requerment even connected everything quite nicely into a neat little courtyard. :-)

I called LEGO up to see if I could cancel the order yesterday and the employee said the set was never in stock, the listing was actually for a back order which they never listed. She said they’ve got many complaints about the website and that it won’t ship for another 1-2 weeks. I’m waiting to here back to see if it got cancelled and managed to find all the sets in a small toy store yesterday. Target’s also got them listed online at 20% as part of their Toy Sale at the moment.

Wow that’s amazing! I wish my Kmart actually stocked the sets on release rather than a week later. I did a click and collect for two of them from Target to get the deal and also bought two at full price from a small toy store cause I couldn’t wait to get them open and build. Might keep the second sealed and hold onto that.

Yeah, I got a lot of money tied up in LEGO I don't have right now. Lol. Surprisingly we had most of the Harry Potter sets here in Burnie, Tasmania on the 1st or 2nd of July. And I got a bit peed off with Amazon listing the sets 1st June and not sending them til July. So I went ahead and bought all my Amazon sets again and i'm just going to return the sets straight bay to Amazon with the free returns. I actually requested to have two of the sets cancelled 4 days ago and they still sent it yesterday. So I don't feel bad.

I've also got my Burrow order same as you with LEGO. I put in a cancellation request several days ago and haven't heard anything. I wanted to have a Harry Potter build party with my wife last night so I drove 40km to Devonport to pick up the Burrow! :-) So at this stage I figure if LEGO cancels the order then I get my money back and it's all easy, but if they send it... I might naughtily return the set to Kmart! :-) I don't feel bad as Kmart has just got $500 off me in the last day or so, so they can do me a small favour! :-D

But yay!!! Finally got to build them all last night! :-D Bit bummed I missed the $109 at Kmart for the Burrow. Thought that was their price, didn't realise it was going to change. Lol.

That’s so frustrating, might buy a second from then and return the one from Lego. I’m just glad I had to wait in the end as I’ll save $21 on Privet Drive

I wish I had waited. It's been 6 days and LEGO still hasn't shipped my Burrow yet. And they seem to use notoriously slow postage in Australia. It will probably be down the road for $40 cheaper at Kmart before it gets here! Lol. I also ordered the other 4 I wanted from Amazon 4 weeks ago and they are only just shipping them now. Would have saved another $30-$40 at Kmart if i'd waited. But I thought when Amazon listed them, it meant they had them! :-/

No problem, I’m thinking of doing the same thing for the student pack cause I can’t stand the hefty shipping cost. At least I now have enough VIP points to get a $30 voucher, WOOHOO!!

I was approaching the $30 off mark, but I asked LEGO what was going on with the sets and stated my concern about missing out on the hotrod and they game me like 3000 vip points. So with purchasing the burrow, I should just be passing the $75 off mark which will be nice! :-D

I just managed to place an order for The Burrow this morning on Lego Shop at Home Aus, still no student pack up but considering I wanted to do a Bricks & Pieces order I am over the moon! Get in quick my fellow Aussies.

Thanks I ordered it. Still really bummed I got a crappy micro lambourghini or whatever it was instead of the Cool Hot Rod with 2 minifigures! :'( Guess student pack will have to wait to be ordered with the D2C now, as postage on it's own is 50% of the student packs cost. Lol.

Just opened up the Hedwig set and come to the first sticker to place and have discovered that I have 2 sticker sheets ?

I reckon 2 stickers sheets should be the standard. It would cost them basically nothing to add an extra sticker sheet, and it would be so useful for replacing, worn, damaged or misplaced stickers. :-)
