Wizarding World 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
krimimimi replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
That's the Room of Requirement he enters, and we're getting it in March but in a slightly different iteration, the Room of Hidden Things. They're from the almost exactly same time in the story. (They had to boot everyone from the room to be able to enter the other version.) Thanks to magic, there's one location with two very different sets of contents. Anyway I doubt they'll give us another version of the room this wave, especially as they're calling the RoHT set "RoR", and if you were doing that version as well, personally I'd emphasise the difference between them which that obviously fails to. It just goes with the better known catch all name. As one of the presently unknown sets from this summer, I'm hoping they might be giving us another Hogsmeade expansion, and that it might include the Hog's Head pub, which is the beginning of the tunnel to the RoR and where the portrait is located. (Like you, I enjoyed the scene with the tunnel. π) They could even work more students into the Hogsmeade end by making an OotP set of it as it's where they form the DA. But that's nothing more than a wish at this point. -

You say this, but I'll remind you that when they finally released an Infirmary in the Clock Tower, they did so without a Pomfrey. I'm not sure our logic applies. π I won't complain too much, though. I prefer when they give us more variety and don't use the same few characters in all sets, even if that means having to bricklink the gaps. -

@strangely, I'm not so sure about the printing, although a better Bellatrix would be very nice. DA had only a single minifig with leg printing, and that was Lucius Malfoy using a piece that had already been released in another property the year before. -

I know I'm not the target market because I don't care about ships one way or another, but I doubt I could tell the difference between the Durmstrang ship and one held to a similar palette. On the other hand, the Lovegood house (which I also don't know if I'd want as a set) has an outline I'm unlikely to confuse with another build. So I do think "iconic" is a fair term to apply. Plus it had a fair bit more screen time, and we actually saw the interior, which the designers have said in the past makes it more likely they'll produce a set. -

promobricks didn't mention "diorama" as a possibility at all, but then also didn't know anything further about it definitively other than piece count, the price and those two words "Expecto Patronum", so that doesn't rule it out either. We have to work with what they have, so it's still open what kind of set it will be (or at least as far as the piece count permits) and what movie it would be from, although they speculated it might be Aberforth in DH to tie in with the known BoH set. (Was that necessarily a Patronus though? Or non-corporeal if so?) Regardless, it was also a very quick scene, so my guess would be any of the other suggestions people have made here before that one. (Then again, how long is the Durmstrang ship visible? π€ Maybe screen time just isn't the factor I think it is.) If you look at the lists @sebastian666 and @NostalgicBricks put together for us, you'll see that none of the new names include the "Hogwarts:" etc. prefixes, so either there are no more castle sets this year amongst the known quantities, which seems unlikely, or we shouldn't read too much into that. -

There's always a chance of a Grimmauld Place AC, and a free Dobby could fit there, although that still wouldn't take advantage of the built in Christmas theme possibilities the location and story offers. Then again, the 2021 and 2022 ACs didn't either. -

Malfoy Manor I have difficulty picturing as the scenes are either 1) Burbage gets eaten or 2) Hermione gets tortured, culminating in Dobby's death, both of which seem out of step with the line. If they do it eventually, I picture it less substantial, more playful, like that original concept art sketch or MicMac's MOC thereof. (Or is there a scene I'm forgetting?) What do people think the could include in a film orientated set for the 3rd task? Has anyone seen a good MOC of that? -

Please correct me if I have this wrong, but I thought none of the new set names promobricks listed have the format we've seen lately (Hogwartsβ’ Courtyard: Siriusβs Rescue), so I assume they're not 100% officially correct, but more a shortened form. Alternatively, I can't believe none of these sets are a castle extension. By the same token, not that a diorama is out of the question, but "Siriusβs Rescue" didn't sound like it would necessarily be the name of a courtyard either. Again, "Expecto Patronum" or "Battle of Hogwarts" could be dioramas, but I'm also not ruling out castles and still more castle sets. -

May still not happen. They've been good about alternating things as the D2C sets go, we've only just seen the super expensive Hogwarts Express, so next year seems more probable than this one for an expensive Knight Bus. I've thought of that, because I still think it's a scene we'll see eventually, but consider it less likely they'd name it from Snape's perspective, if that makes sense? He'd be the one casting the spell after all. Like I don't even know if they'd be likely to even include him in a set of the scene, so naming it after a spell he'd cast feels... off. I think a PoA Expecto Patronum lesson, perhaps with a chance to see Snape take over the class (page 394!) giving us an excuse to see him somewhere in this wave. I suspect we also need to have Dumbledore in there somewhere. Still hoping we'll see a Hogsmeade set as one of the two remaining unknowns. Those are proving reliably good. Absolutely can't believe there are no inexpensive sets except for Brickheadz. "Bloody hell!" as Ron would say. -

Apparently it's not confirmed. Oof. Excellent to hear we'll be seeing the Battle of Hogwarts (25th anniversary of the BoH, it would have been odd for them not to capitalise on it) and the GWP sounds good, but most left me disinterested. I hope there are more than one shop / building in the Gringotts set. I couldn't care in the least about a track system, and would rather not have the dragon included. Nothing to do but wait. The price is making me nervous. I honestly didn't expect them to gate keep such a key set behind that price point. -

Looking at their history, things likely to put in an appearance: one Forbidden Forest set, most likely some means of transportation (speaking of which, Hogwarts Express and Knight Bus are both very high rotation and will be due out again in the not too distant future), Hagrid's Hut, Quidditch / Flying, a Castle extension, and some creature or another... It also looks like Hogsmeade additions / secondary Wizarding locations are a new regular thing right now, which is awesome. 76414 $64.99 ο»Ώ| 754 pieces - a Buildable dragon everyone will complain about with the trio and something to vaguely represent the escape from Gringotts. Maybe one of the independent vaults we've hypothesised about, as the inevitable Gringotts should be on the same level as DA. DH2 Harry, Hermione, Ron. 25 years later... Creature, check. 76415 $79.99 | 730 pieces Durmstrang ship. GoF Karkaroff, Krum, Merperson... Ties into the Second Task set. Transport, check. 76418 $???? | 227 pieces - I'm betting this is a $20 set, as that really seems to be missing in the line up this year. Forest of Dean w/ Harry, Ron, doe Patronus, tree, rock, frozen water, Gryffindor's sword OR remake of the Narcissa in the Forbidden Forest scene from DH2 Narcissa, Hagrid, Harry, Voldemort. Forest sets, check. 76421 $???? | 403 pieces - I think it's too soon for another bathroom set, so Troll in Bathroom has to wait. A Quidditch set probably needs more pieces the way they're doing things now, unless it's Quidditch tryouts (Lee and Cormac would be sensible additions). Otherwise med-small Hogwarts extension Umbridge's Reign of Terror and the twin's escape with fireworks, w/ Filch and his ladder and rules plaques OotP Umbridge, Filch, Fred and George, and possibly detention Harry (or they'll need to give us a 3rd CMF eventually). This can also make use of the Fiendfyre serpent in March's RoR to add to the fireworks display. Or Snape's DADA class (actually Lupin's), "turn to page 394" PoA has to appear eventually. Either way, Castle, check. 76422 $89.99 | ??? pieces - Hogsmeade Hog's Head and either another store, possibly either Puddifoot's as part of their efforts to pinkify things or the bridge with Katie Bell and the cursed necklace. OotP / HBP Ties into the Room of Requirement set and could give us a sleeping Cho alt face in one of the few sets she still sensibly belongs. Hogsmeade, check. 76423 $129.99ο»Ώ | ??? pieces - BoH, maybe the Bell Towers (finally) and bridge. I can't picture them skipping the Bell Towers while they're still doing the modular format, as it really lends itself to that footprint, and the modulars can't continue forever, so no better time than the present. We also really need to see some of the faculty somewhere in the summer wave. DH2 Castle, check. They could make this a set from previous years, but then they need to give us a Death Eater Accessory Pack this summer, too, or the BoH is going to be terribly one sided. While we can put McGonagall in the BoH set, Snape is less likely and Dumbledore not at all, and I can't picture a year without them, so while ordinarily I'd say 76416 $64.99 | 599 pieces should be the Hagrid's Hut (PS version), they might need a better way to work in some of the other instructors or members of the OotP. Shell Cottage would get us Bill, finally, and Fleur. We've got Griphook and could use a tie in from the Gringotts escape. Unfortunately it's more likely they'd do a set from PS / CoS. *shrug* -

I went back and checked what I answered last year, and was intrigued to see there were a few changes in my ranking. (Your answers were either above or below that, if you want to go back and check.) Overall, as the number of Harry Potter sets I own increases, I'm coming to value compact size / storage more than I had previously. Sets like the new '23 Room of Requirement that store the extra bits and bobs on the set itself while folding together will be forcing other sets out of the ranking next year. 1 The 2018 nanoscale Hogwarts Castle has kept the pole position. A year on it's still displayed on our dining table despite the huge footprint, so it clearly deserves it. (+/- 0) 2 The 2018 Great Hall remains at second place. It was the perfect way to re-launch the series. A minor quibble remains with the basilisk, they should have made it better or ditched it in favour of better fittings in the tower. (+/- 0) 3 '20 Diagon Alley D2C. I still hate some of the colour choices, and some of the too obvious cost cutting measures in the QQS oversize, but I love the details as a whole, the building techniques, and it packs away nicely, so with shifted priorities, it's gone up two notches. (+ 2) 4 '22 Shrieking Shack. I didn't need another Whomping Willow this soon, and they take up quite a bit of space. Without it and at the lower price point (or paired with some other Hogsmeade build instead), the set would have been in third place, but it was an improvement on the one from '18, which it's knocked from the ranking, so... I do wish there were better ways to attach the loose bits, though. (NEW) 5 I was thrilled to see both the '22 Hospital Wing and library with their vastly improved exteriors, but the I prefer the Hospital Wing's compactness and better ability to fit with the '21+ modular system. Having started down the modular path, too many of the builds seem not to have committed to it, thwarting its promise in the process while sacrificing the advantages of the 2018+ system. (NEW) 6 The '21 Hogwarts Moment: Potions set has reclaimed its slot and knocked the DADA set off the list. The DADA set still has the better footprint, but Potions is the one I've bought multiples of, keep close, and use in MOCs; DADA doesn't come close to sparking the same joy. (Side note: the lego artists are true champs.) (+ 1 ) 7 The lego Advent Calendars just make me happy. Even when they lean too heavily into the nanoscale builds and I whinge, it's such a pleasure to combine several of my favourite things as they have, and as long as they make them, I'll be buying them. The β20 Yule Ball AC was the best yet, although the 2019 one was also quite good. (new to the list) 8 '20 Forbidden Forest: Umbridge's Encounter w/ Grawp is no longer on permanent display, but rotates with some of the others. It remains an excellent set, however, and I really like the Grawp maxifig and the centaurs, which helps nudge out Harry and Luna and the Thestrals from the list, even though they're currently still on display. (+ 1) 9 '21 Polyjuice Potion Mistake may be the only set to really embrace the modular format and it did it so well. I think I've bought over a dozen of them to MOC now, so it's definitely earned its place on this list. (new to the list) 10 '19 Hagridβs Hut is still on our coffee table, but I no longer know where the pumpkin patch is, and no matter how pretty and well done it is, it isn't small. I suspect it will be replaced by the Second Task next year. (- 6) 11 '22 Grand Staircase gave rise to much squeeing, and again: I love their artists and the attention to canonic detail. (NEW) 12 '21 Hogsmeade has slipped slightly in the ranking mostly because of little bits that are floating around the house... somewhere, and the less substantial builds for the shops. It's still part of the Christmas Village, though, and one of the things I'd very much like to see more of. (- 4) 13 '20 Astronomy Tower has replaced the Clock Tower in the list because it displays nicely behind the nanoscale castle while acting as my minifig stand. 14 '19 Knight Bus. I'm not usually a fan of the vehicles, but both this and the Express were brilliantly rendered. This wins out as it takes up much less room and thus is on display more often. 15 The '21 Harry and Hermione ultra-maxifigs. Something new I never would have MOCced. It was nice to have. (I could use more hair designs now... lol) -

Are we sure 76418 is the Advent Calendar or are we guessingο»Ώ? The piece count (227 pieces) is way down for an AC and with no price listed as yet, it might be one of those smaller budget sets this year seems to be missing (aside from the gimmicky Banners, that is, and they still aren't anywhere close to the 20 EUR price point). On the other hand if that means no nanobuilds in the AC... π Edit: I was just looking at JB Spielwaren's FB page, and they're up to three sets built now (not sure if the same is true for their IG). I understand the complaints people have with the Room of Requirement/ Hidden Things, but I think it looks great. I'll be very happy to have it, and even like the folding aspect that keeps the footprint smaller. The Grey Lady is a treat (3 ghosts down, 3 to go..). I only had 3 minor quibbles, I was looking forward to two pixies and it appears one is only a sticker; for the door stickers, I'd prefer one sticker that covers the entire door to two of them I'll have problems aligning; and I'll also fight to get the door arch stickers right, but they definitely add something to the build, so... I also like the inclusion of the clear rods to mount things on and give the illusion of characters or Fiendfyre flying about. It's nice to bring more "magic" into the sets. The Second Task neatly exceeded all my expectations, too, and I'll have difficulty holding off until the price comes down. Even the banner looks better than expected. I may warm up to them yet. π -

Oh that little Grindylow is cute. And I like that it looks like it's from the same design family as the pixie. It makes for more harmonious displays. ETA: @BrickBob Studpants there were six pix of the Second Task on their FB page with two three of the banner set boxes visible in the background. Were there pictures of other sets shown elsewhere? Oh, I need it. π I also think it's unreasonable to expect parents to shell out for a minifig that may have only been released once a decade or two ago so their kids who are now old enough to be interested can play out a scene. Setting it up that way only increases the chances mum or dad source them from knock offs, and that doesn't help the brand as a whole either. If there are gaps, lego, please fill them and take our happily surrendered money. With the improvements to their minifig design over the years, not to mention the extra bits and bobs in the CMFs, I definitely don't mind rereleases / fig updates either. I'd also like to see Snape and Pettigrew from the flashbacks as well. (Although it's odd 21 year old AC Sirius in the flashback outfit is so old looking because he's only arrested in the outfit in the past and doesn't wear it in the "present", but then I guess the 20-21 year old Lily and James CMFs weren't all that young looking either.) I wouldn't even mind unnamed CMF characters in the least, to get some more variety in the head and hair pieces, both for the student body and wizarding population, but they've plenty named ones they can do first. -

It seems to be Rowena Ravenclaw instead, and it's just a sticker. EDIT: never mind, you're looking at a different set. π That's what I get for wishing they'd include the House ghosts in the banner sets. Going from no Blaises to two Blaises is also a little disappointing. Especially when there are so many characters we don't have. -

@Legoman123 Do you mean the 2021+ modular style? Or have the House banners finally leaked? If you did mean the 2021+ modular format, you can pick up a bunch of the bathrooms fairly cheaply and easily mod them without too many additions. There are a couple of very nice common room and dorm mods on EB, if you have a poke around. -
@SylvainLS Brilliant, thank you so much! 1. Yeah, that was the best I could come up with as well, I just couldn't believe, having the ability to import a palette (so nice), they wouldn't also allow us to manipulate the BoM contents accordingly. Thank you for the warnings, I had gathered re-importing a wishlist wasn't quite as straightforward as I'd hope. 2. Occasionally I need more context than the submodel provides, but for the most part it's extraneous information that will distract from what I'm trying to convey in the instructions. My workaround is similar to the previous one, and similarly inelegant which is why I was again hoping there was a better approach. They had so many bits and bobs you could toggle to adjust appearance, I thought there was a good chance I'd overlooked one. (Make previous submodel visible / not.) I'll just insert a screenshot from a second version of the build and call it a day. Sometimes kludges are the answer. 3. Thanks! I'm looking at the page now. Does the input png have to be the proper size or resolution, or does it shrink the image to fit? I had just stumbled across some helpful info on MB and was working my way through it; it'll help with generating the stickers in the first place, but I'll still need to sort uploading them to Stud.io. Printer > Yeah, it was worth a shot to ask. π Thank you very much for responding so helpfully. It'll definitely save me some time. π

Hey, I'm fairly new to stud.io (coming from mecabricks), modding an official set, and by and large I've managed to make things work satisfactorily, but for a couple of exceptions: I know how to generate the parts list / Bill of Materials, insert it in the instructions and change its format as needed, but is it possible to remove the parts that were included in the set I'm modding? I used the custom parts palette from the set and had to get some additional parts from the Main parts list. Is it possible to list only the parts that weren't on the custom palette / only the ones from the Main palette? The only other idea I had was exporting to bricklink, having it remove the parts I have from a wish list, and I believe there were posts here as to how to re-import that list to Stud.io... (Although if there isn't a better solution and you happen to know where a good explanation for doing that is, I'd love a link. It didn't sound straightforward.) In the instructions that were generated for the submodels, for some steps it would be helpful to see where they are placed on the previous builds for reference, so they aren't just floating in the aether in the meantime. Is there a way to toggle that view off and on? I wouldn't want to include the builds in the same step and have the visual clutter of having it visible the whole time, but it would help to be able to be able to see it at the start for reference. (The only workaround I came up with was saving the model under a different name, removing the submodels in question in that version, screenshotting the results and including the pictures on inserted blank pages in the original file, but that sounded pretty kludgey, and almost definitely like something that should most likely be a couple clicks and a proper setting away, and not silly amounts of work instead.) Also I was looking for templates to design my own tile stickers. Google foo has yielded that in spades for minifigs, but not the different tile sizes, which is what I was after. If anyone happens to have a link at hand or can point me to resources, it would help. (And if anyone can recommend a good printer's in Europe that mails the results, that would also be lovely. I haven't even begun that search yet.) Cheers.

Then the shift to crappy Star Wars advent calendars really would be complete. π The 2019 and 2020 HP calendars were so good because they included relevant minifigs we didn't have elsewhere with things we could use to expand our builds, to MOD their sets or make MOCs of our own. Even 2021 was somewhat useful for the printed tiles it offered, effectively no longer included this year, and the undesignated House uniforms for the Firsties, although its builds were less valuable than its predecessors. 2022, by contrast, is largely useless, with the exception of Neville and Chair!Sluggy and that "Harry Potter" tile. Giving us non-canonical Christmas variants of the characters to go with the nanobuilds is all they need to make the thing completely irrelevant. π It's such a shame considering all they needed to do was make use of the rich material they have for the holiday itself. Why not OotP versions of the twins in their holiday jumpers? Or why not Arthur in his chair and score extra points for inclusion while they're about it? I still can't believe we didn't get a Christmas at Grimmauld calendar to go with 12 GP. Maybe next year if it's still on the shelves. -

I'm still hoping to one day see the doe Patronus in a forest of Dean set. I don't think we have a good one atm that they could just recolour. I also really want the unicorn, lol, but I just can't see them giving me Quirrell with a straw and a dead unicorn in a set... You never know, though. I'd like Fang and Harry and Draco in the Forbidden Forest set and that would be a chance to reuse a centaur, too. And then the inevitable Hagrid's Hut could have Hagrid (sniffle), Hermione and Ron. Or maybe they'll combine them for a larger build sort of like Buckbeak and the pumpkin patch last time. I'd love to see more pieces for that arch, too. I really like it.
