10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
qbrick replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Was there any insight on if 10305 was considered a sales success? It seemed like there was huge hype about it in the lead up to its release, to be met with comparatively few sales, only 60 units sold on bricklink, with high availability of stock in store in many of the physical lego stores. Do you think lego estimated higher demand, or are people nostalgic for castle, but not necessarily willing to buy? I actually quite liked the Lion Knights minifigs and some of the parts, but wasn't that into the castle itself - was that a common reaction?- 2,976 replies

I ultimately received my bricklink reissue Lion Knights, they are quite good and match well with the reissue Black Falcons. I was more interested in the minifigs only, and wasn't really interested in 10305, so was pleased to have the option to get them "standalone" at bricklink prices. They are definitely very modern, although for me I still prefer the classic originals from 1984, something about the simplicity of them. The modern reissues are more colorful though. The reissue Lion Knight shields are also quite good too. Definitely worth it as standalone minifigs. Was also originally interested in the redesigned bardings, although it was one of the rare times where the bricklink prices were a solid "nope" this time round, hopefully they will make it to pick a brick someday, they are very nice.- 2,976 replies

Would the situation be that for a bricklink seller of 10305, they could part out the 22 minifigures for a few hundred dollars, but then be stuck with thousands of generic grey parts that would take forever to move? That is, in the ROI on parting out the set not there?- 2,976 replies

I still find it interesting that 10305 has only sold 32 units on bricklink globally, which is not what I was expecting. It would be interesting to know how many units have been sold via official lego channels, if it would be high hundreds, or low thousands of copies sold to the end consumers. Is it a case that with things like Classic Castle and Galaxy Explorer, that the hype is there and everyone loves the nostalgia of it, but it doesn't translate to a large number of units sold? Could that we the reason the Classic Themes never really get up? I still find it interesting how few quantities there are of Lion Knights on bricklink, it must be true that the minifigs are only coming from parted out 10305 sets and none of the big sellers have gotten any "back door" quantities like was referenced on bricklink a few weeks ago.- 2,976 replies

I was wanting to get an understanding if a "Duplo Parts Only" store is worth the time and effort on bricklink, in as much as it would have no sets in the inventory, just large quantities of bricks and duplo minifigures. There would be no normal lego parts to prop up the store, it would be duplo parts only. It appears at face value that the ROI would not be there (time that is, not so much profit) I get a sense that the duplo minifigures might move ok, but that I would end up stuck with large inventory of red, blue and other primary color duplo bricks that would be hard to move. Has any one tried such an endeavor before - what was your experience? Is used duplo worth the squeeze, or it is more suited to donation / landfill?

I actually did check out my local lego store, whilst they did still have multiple 10305 still in stock, its just too big for it to be a toy and still be unobtrusive on the shelf. I think what i really wanted (nostalgia for) would have been if they just reissued 6103 with the modern prints for bulk purchase.- 2,976 replies

I paid about 10 EUR per Lion Knight minifig not including shipping, which felt ok. I was expecting after the 10305 set got inventoried on bricklink that there would be a huge quantity of Lion Knights available, but that did not happen for some reason (i was expecting high hundreds to a thousand Lion Knights to be up on bricklink already, but that didn't happen) So it was a reasonable price versus waiting for September or October to see if the situation improves. I wanted to go ahead with the Lion Knight purchase as my Black Falcons minifigs arrived sooner than expected, and wanted to complete out the set and move on.- 2,976 replies

It's true, the new Black Falcons minifigs are just really great, I was pleased to get them - they are true to the originals but are still updated for modern times. The Lion Knights also are just as great although maybe one point removed for moving the crest up higher on the torso so it is overlapped by the chain mail, i have no idea why the designers did that. But again having modern Black Falcons and Lion Knights is just really great in 2022, they have a lot of charm. It was a bit of playing around with bricklink to get the right quantity of new Lion Knights, as there was such limited quantities, but they were still ok price wise, not completely insane. The Black Falcons were easily sourced, so much surplus. I must admit I have zero interest in the rest of 10305 it just didn't hit the nostalgia the same way the minifigs do. It's hard to beat 6074, 6080 & 6086 all these years later.- 2,976 replies

That's what I was trying to understand - why there was 23,000 Black Falcons sold on bricklink and only 400 Lion Knight sold on bricklink. Were the black falcon minifigs on Pick a Brick at some point, or were there just thousands of 3-in1 creator castles that were parted out. I was expecting that there would have been a few thousand Lion Knights on bricklink by now, but it seems even after the inventory was approved, there are only a handful of sellers globally of Lion Knights.- 2,976 replies

What I found odd about 10305 on Bricklink, was I was expecting a huge amount of quantity to change hands based on the enormous hype and anticipation - only 36 units of 10305 have been sold on Bricklink, I was expecting it to be pretty much sold out, and I can see units on the shelf in my local lego store for sale. The most surprising thing about the Lion Knights minifigures from this set is how so few of them quantity wise have made it on to bricklink - I was expecting a huge quantity of the Lion Knights minifigs to hit inventory at high prices, but its really only been very small quantities available in small bundles, maybe 1 unit to 9 units per seller. Maybe only around 400 Lion Knights have sold total on Bricklink - I was expecting the demand to be much higher - nearly 23,000 units of Black Falcons minifigs have been sold, including torsos - so I don't know why lego would make the Lion Knights so limited, given that they are still relatively cheap per minifig.- 2,976 replies

I am wanting to get an understanding if others on the forum are involved with or using the Duplo train series, namely 10874, 10875, 10882 & 10872. What I found was when these sets were initially released back in 2018, they were in high demand and it was hard to see much stock in many stores. I imagine since that time everyone who wanted one has bought one. Now that I have some, they are a great toy and train set. What I am interested in is how does Lego produce these? I have travelled to many stores in different cities and it seems that there is a huge amount of overstock of these Train sets at each location. Does Lego make a single one time high production run in the lead up to the release then distribute globally, or do they do ongoing production of these sets after the release date - that is, is the stock that exists now from a late 2019 production run, or is this stock all from the same pre-release 2018 production run? What would you estimate the number of sets produced would be? It seems that there are over 100,000 downloads of the app, so would the run have been 500,000 units? Also, were these four sets the start and end of the train series for this run, or will there be more train sets of this series in 2020? How long do you think the Duplo connect train app will be developed for? Do you think there will be more enhancements to this app? There seems to be functionality in the train base that hasn't been unlocked with the software yet.
