  1. appreciate the PF perspective. I didn't think about lighting in this formula but that would be great to have as well at some point.
  2. i think it's great. do you have a parts list for it? may bricklink one later. hopefully last question, if i wanted to go the app route. how do i do the actual coding for that and then apply it to the train? do you have a step-by-step guide to show that for a dummy like me?
  3. LOL, i feel so dumb for saying that. It's so obvious now that all you are doing is telling one to go straight and the other backwards. LMAO! My next question was going to be how do you control the speed as it seems you would be trying to hit the button at the same time. and here you are with a neat little contraption that you have built to do just that. So was that your own design or did you find it somewhere?
  4. no kidding on the controller knobs, huh? i had no clue what those are/were for. so they change polarity? what is the process for syncing everything so it runs together? meaning, both motors are synced to the same controller and one runs in reverse? and how does one go about doing this? "add on motor command with V and the other for the second motor with V*-1" what are you using to code this function?
  5. do you have any more details around this? I would actually prefer to go the PoweredUp route. for simplicity sake if nothing else. so is it two battery/bluetooth boxes and two train motors? anything else needed? and then, how do I program them to run opposite? Or, what exactly needs to be done on the handset to get the two motors to operate in the correct position?
  6. so for PF, i would be running cabling through all cars to reach the second engine, correct? Like Paul below laid out in his explanation? do they make one long cable or is this several short cables? for PoweredUp, aren't the engines directional though? so again, as Paul below pointed out, will that require some sort of reverse engineering in the motor itself to trick it to operate in reverse?
  7. Hi friends, I've researched this a bit on both this forum and others. But hoping there maybe some updated ways to power two engines on the 10233 Horizon Express so I could run them like on the box with engines on opposite ends. I don't really have the infrastructure for 9v so that's probably out of the question. But hoping someone may have updated info on how to do this for PoweredUp? Or if Power Functions is still the way to go, what has been deemed the best way to go about it? Thanks in advance.
  8. which person are you getting to ship to the States? so far nobody is shipping to the states due to "corona virus." and what's the difference from 88009? https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?S=88009-1#T=S&O={"iconly":0}
  9. Hi folks, Is there a clear consensus on what we'll need to power the Croc? I read through several pages and I'm still confused. Thanks!
  10. Got it. Think I can finally put this to bed. ?thank you all so much for your help!
  11. Alright, so net-net, grab a PU battery pack and motor, slap that rascal in there, use the axles that Come with the PU motor and perhaps shave them down a smidge if they are noticeably too long?
  12. Arent 5-wide just the standard size? Pretty sure I could just try them out from my current train. And if you use 5-wides you can use the skirting and everything?
  13. Thank you for the reply! How did you shave the axles down? Simple hand file do the trick?
  14. thanks! small dremel tool or similar to make the cuts?
  15. Got it Got it Got it. I'm sitting here thinking motor = train engine, not thinking that the engine is the wheels on a LEGO train. So net-net is, the Super Chief can handle a battery box of PF or PUP, but will require the axles to be shortened to accommodate the skirting. But also sounds like perhaps I could search, e.g., bricklink for the correct gray skirts so no altering would be necessary? If not, and I try to use the originals, what is the correct length for a "half bushing?" cut on the axles? Or does that become obvious if i have everything sitting in front of me?
  16. would love to see some pics if you have some! So is there enough room in the engine compartment area to house a PF or PUP without any other modification? Or am i removing side bricks to accommodate the battery box and is that why folks are saying the grays won't match? As the battery box then essentially becomes that current gray area? Sorry, feel dumb for asking, I just don't want to ruin the aesthetic of the original. I'm referring to this sentence I suppose from Golden way up top: "I've already converted my Super Chief to power functions, and did so without making any cosmetic changes."
  17. Thank you for the response. And absolutely, i wasn't trying to revive a dead thread. I just literally had not way to communicate with the person that I felt had the most appropriate response to what I was after. Appreciate all of the detail you gave in your post above. It seems no matter which way i go there would be some sort of modification necessary unless i found some old 9V components. And by doing so takes away a lot of what i'm after originally and that's the look of these engines. I would love to have one of these older style engines. I haven't seen anything as unique come out of LEGO for trains in quite a long time. I may try to find a Maersk or Horizon Express that can accept the newer systems fairly easy. Ya'll have a fantastic day! P.S., I guess I do go back to the person I was responding to. He said he made zero cosmetic changes outside of shaving down the wheels. So I guess I should ask if anyone has images of what the update looks like for the SC with either PF or PUP, preferably the PUP as that's what i have in my new cargo train and it seems like a great system.
  18. Hello, I tried to PM you as this thread is several years old, but the system would not allow it. You mentioned that you added Power Functions to your Santa Fe without any cosmetic changes. How did you do it? I'm considering a Santa Fe and/or a BNSF but I cannot head down the 9V path. Any insight would be extremely helpful. Thank you!
