  1. The scaling was actually part of the mask texture. As I'm not a Bionicle fan I cannot say which mask it is exactly, though Callmepie has kindly pointed that out. The technique I used tried to bring light to the texture on the mask. I me go over it again with a green closer to the troll itself to lighten it up a bit as I still feel it is too dark. Thanks all!
  2. This is a painting test on one of my trolls. I'd like to lighten it up in a few places to give it more visibility. Troll For some reason the upload doesn't like my Flickr. Thanks!
  3. This is one of the factions I am working on. The Lions are politically evil in my LEGO universe. They are known for their cunning, treachery and backstabbing. The Lord and his eldest son a vicious in battle. There are very minor mods to major characters. I have used a painting style to give flair to the hair of characters in vital positions. Modified units are the Archers and the Quarrelers. Having issues with posting the images, so here is the linkage for my Flickr. Thanks for viewing!
  4. This is spectacular. I love it, my wallet weeps. My very first LEGO ever was 6060- Knight's Challenge. Makes this special for me. As I said it is amazing, awesome and many other utterances, though I did envision a few other things. This is what I had imagined. More competitors: It would have been nice to see at least 4 knights. Lions and Dragons of course, then the new Falcons and perhaps a New Forester or Wolfpack Knight. Each with his own squire. I understand this alone puts it at 8 mini figs and four horses right there, but I'd pay a little extra for that. More going on: The joust is beautiful, but perhaps a tourney pit for the other weapons on foot, that would not be too many more pieces. Civilians: They are great, I love everything, but it would have been neat to see a grandstand and a vendor of some sort "Yak's meat, hot wine!" anyone? Royalty: It fits, seems right, not really much more I can say on them, perhaps the younger Lion as the Lions Champion, vying for the favor of the green dressed beauty?
  5. Argh, beat me to the post. Very nice, now when I post mine it won't be as epic. I like the hammer, I've been fiddling with different weapons for them and I can definitely say your hammer looks nice.
  6. Ohhh! Amazing. What material was used for the "chain mail" shirt? Very nice back story as well.
  7. While I appreciate your advice, I feel they have come out rather well, they catch certain realism I was aiming for, they also appeal to my purist nature. The paint is rather minimal, as you can still see all the original shape/form of the piece that was modified. I have no desire to paint torsos/legs and have pondered helms and weapons, but these honestly won't due, leaning on the nature of said items. Hair pieces give me a chance to add more variety, and while of course I do appreciate keeping my LEGO looking like LEGO, I don't feel the mod detracts as much as you point out. Regards, Commo
  8. I use the Slayer Dwarfs during my D&D games weekly encounters as my table top alter ego. The slayers themselves have been finished for a bit over two months and have made about3-4 trips with me to my local gaming store. With the matte varnish/finish they hold up rather well, as many people at the store have handled them. As long as they aren't dropped and handled overly enthusiastically the paint stays well in place. It will wash off with warm soapy water, and the only prep I did was a warm rinse and a quick q-tip of alcohol over the item before I painted it. They get two go overs with either black or white base coat, then the primary color, dry brush, and inks to add depth. Once they dry I go over with an protective coat, and bam, new hair-do! 9. So I'd like to consider myself a purist, but I need something more to spice up my friends without getting to elaborate. Well here you have it. The mods are minor, purist parts, weapons and capes. I decided to paint the hair and beards using my Warhammer painting method to give my world a bit of life. I find the hair a bit too shiny and jovial without my touch. I feel it gives my world a nice gritty, real feeling. I apologize for the gritty photos. These hearty lads are inspired my time with Warhammer models. Dwarf Slayers. Love em! Beards and mo-hawks done with a base coat, and 3 color dry-brush method. The lads pictured here belong to a group of Rifle-Dwarfs. Beards done in the same method as above, aimed for a greying or aging beard look. Greybeards! These fellows are the King of the Lions and his two sons. The King is a militaristic tyrant and the oldest boy has plans of his own, the youngest, well he just enjoys a little of everything. I did the King's hair in a flare of salt and pepper. I choose the hair style to compliment his militaristic background. I know it's heard to tell in the photo, but I did both the younger lads hair with black, and a light dry-brush of white to bring in lighting. The sinister older brother has a streak of red hair in his bangs, so you know he means "evil business" Thanks all. Commo
  10. I personally have found patches to repair cloth or clothing items, I believe called "duck patches" to work best for me. They are thin enough to go through a printer and the material is resistant to flaying if cut with a sharp enough tool. They also come in small, or larger manageable squares and are relatively easy to find and cheap at most local stores in my location. Regards, Commo
  11. About the PAB Wall. I saw the horses there as well at the Bellevue, Washington LEGO Store. I was able to get 8-10 into a small cup and the associates there didn't mind. I was even able to fit a few other elements into the cup with clever shifting.
  12. Hey all, I'm a 30 year old Adult LEGO Enthusiast. I'm from Arizona, U.S. and currently reside in Washington due to work. I typically dabble only in Castle and the themes that follow roughly the same era. Once I finish my current line of work I plan on becoming a Medieval Historian and Archaeologist. I usually shy away from forums and boards due to the volatility and cliquish-ness, but fortunately have yet to see it here. I had my "dark-ages" around the year 2000, and it lasted until about the end of Knights Kingdom. My current projects involve minifig modification. I'm a purist, but I found a twist that appeals to my taste. I hope to post photos soon. Thanks all. -Commo
  13. Beautiful and Uniform in appearance. Very military. Do you build for play or show, I noticed the hinges on the walls for access to the interior. If it's for play, have no shame, I still play with mine at the ripe age of 30.
  14. Depending on which type of paint and decal you are using, most properly finished/painted projects will take both a sticker and a water decal rather well. If you want to take the extra step, you could even go with a clear coat over top of the sticker to help out.
  15. When looking to build a MOC or just a project I Google images of what I'm looking at, or in your case, play the games themselves and take screen shots of areas the show details I would need. If I were you I would give this a shot. Commo
