I would go more with play. For example, with the collectible minifigs I have wound up doing vignettes with them and using the doubles and triples as the base for new minifigs. It is fun to create a scene and I try to have some sort of playablity aspect to the MOCs I do, or at least try to make them sturdy enough for play.

The Brickfather: some purist gangsters
Triborough replied to Triborough's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Thanks. I am thinking of doing a vig of the "But until that day – accept this justice as a gift on my daughter's wedding day" scene from The Godfather. Now I think for that vig you are thinking, track suits might be a bit better. -

I never got into Technic when I was a kid, it never really appealed to me. However, some of the parts can be useful. I found that a brown Connector 32530 with two gray Pin 4274 can make something that looks like an old time radio, when you add a black Tile, Modified 1 x 2 Grille with Bottom Groove / Lip to it. I am currently adding it to a MOC I am working on. I have also used some random Technic bits I picked up in a bag of Lego at a yard sale for part of a space ship interior vignette. Try to find the potential in the parts and you can find something new.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 5 discussion

Thanks for the offer, but I have found use for the pies and will probably bricklink the head, torso, and hat. -
Thanks all. Everything here is purist, which makes things even more fun. Pond's hair is 92083 from Ginny Weasley. Here is another scene done before the Impossible Astronaut scene. Note I did change Amy's torso out Doctor Who: Series 6 by Triborough, on Flickr The Doctor, Amy Pond, Rory Williams, River Song, Canton Everett Delaware III, and Richard Nixon. LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 5 discussion

My package from TRU came today. I ordered 24 and I got about 5 of the stupid clowns. I already had one, which is more than enough - this is the one I am loathing out of this series with its stupid useless clown torso, head and hat - at least the short legs and pie are useful. Got three of the aerobics instructor two of the detective, and two eskimos. Didn't get even one of the one I don't have and didn't get, the graduate. -

I was in Target yesterday and picked up 3365 when I realized the astronaut minifig was perfect for recreating the Doctor's untimely meeting with the astronaut suit. The Impossible Astronaut by Triborough, on Flickr

I noticed that the black on the Series 5 Gangster seems to be duller than the normal Lego black. In the picture below, you can sort of see it on the black fedora, with the normal one on the left and the Gangster's on the right. I also noticed the legs also seemed a bit duller. No doubt this is due to differing production. The Brickfather by Triborough, on Flickr

Least Successful Collectable Minifig
Triborough replied to Mr. Elijah Timms's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Agreed. He also has a nice head and his hair adds some more colour diversity. The torso (with the switch to yellow hands) can work on a civilian, albeit one who is a racing enthusiast. Agreed on the Street Skater. The head with the glasses is very versatile and the torso works well on civilians. Plus we got some nice dark tan legs, too. -

In anticipation of the series 5 collectible minifigure of the Gangster, I created some family members. The Gangster arrived today and joined the family. The Brickfather is in the centre. The Brickfather by Triborough, on Flickr

Least Successful Collectable Minifig
Triborough replied to Mr. Elijah Timms's topic in Special LEGO Themes
It all depends on your definition of worst. Most of them can be integrated into existing themes, which I can see kids doing and maybe even some AFOLs. The Musketeer would fit in nicely with Pirates. The Pilot would fit in nicely to the Pharaoh's Quest line, as would the Pharaoh and new Egyptian Queen. The Space Alien would fit in nicely with the new Alien Conquest line. For those wanting to add more to their cities/towns some are more useful than others. The Traffic Cop, for example, is great since he can provide the base for a whole precinct full of highway patrol officers. Plus there are a whole lot of new torsos, heads, hair and accessories. The Street Skater head is quite useful in changing things up with minifigs. Sort of makes me wish they would do a few themed collectible minifig series like City, Pirates, Historical, etc. As for the ones I really don't like: Lawn Gnome Circus Clown Small Clown Ringmaster Rapper -
A Girls theme that would use standard minifigs and would integrate into the City theme seems like a lost opportunity, since it could be an in to Lego for girls, who could buy other non-girl theme sets, or for girls who are already into Lego but want to have some more girly stuff. It would also have made sense from a cost standpoint, since existing minifigure molds could be used instead of some odd sized stuff.

I am hoping they come up with some sort of North American style ambulance and come up with some better paramedic minifigs. Here is something I came up with awhile back (first MOC after the dark ages!) with 7942 Off Road Fire Rescue serving as the basic design for the cab (I revised the wheels later to be flush) and for the minifigs I used the paramedic torso from 4857 Doc Ock's Fusion Lab - much better than the standard generic one. In the scene below I outfitted the ambulance with the same kit as 7890 Ambulance (last picture) and added a walkie-talkie. They all work well with the rest of the fig. I tried to use ones that seemed in character. The winking Sailor head makes him look like he is taking careful aim. FYI the Samurai works very well on the Artist.

I am more of a City person and not a Pirates, but I really liked the Musketeer series 4 minifigure and thought that with a little bit of arming (the flintlock pistol seemed perfect) and some changing of heads, the redcoats could have a bit of opposition. I am thinking of maybe getting a few redcoat soldiers and doing up a bit of a battle vignette. I think these guys fit in perfectly to the Pirates era. Just wondering if anyone else has also thought of using them in this way. And you may have noticed one is wearing a tri-corner hat just to make things a little different. The funniest things I have seen on there are collectible minifig "cheat sheets" which go for about $1 and up. Anyone can find the same info via google for free. There is a sucker born every minute.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 5 discussion

Here are my thoughts on what minifigs will be the most useful for mixing and matching for City type minifigs. You know repurpose parts. Graduate - nice torso with dress shirt, tie and sweater. Quite useful! The smiling head also could be put to good use. The diploma would look good on a wall somewhere. ;) The cap and gown would work on a lot of minfigs for a nice graduation scene. Gladiator - Not really much here for City use, unless you are doing a costume party scene. The head is probably the most useful here. Grenadier Guard - The stock minifig is perfect for doing up a palace guard type scene. The head is a bit too specific to the headgear, but the rifle could be useful. A Star Wars long blaster would be a nice modern update to the stock character. Eskimo - The head would be of most use for City purposes, unless your city is in Nunavut. ;) The accessories are stuff we have seen before. Meh. Cave woman - Again really much here for City use, but perfect for doing a costume party scene. Godzilla - Perfect for doing a recreation of the opening credits of the A-Team. The head is the most useful for repurposing. Zookeeper - A lot of useful parts nice head and hair - it is nice to have more female minifig heads! The monkey is great and would make a nice addition to a zoo scene with things like the ostrich and such. Woodcutter - A lot of good stuff here. Great torso which has a lot of mix and match potential. Nice coloured legs. Useful head. And the baseball cap is great. Now they need a Beavers baseball jersey to have a team to play against the Clutchers. Circus clown - Other than doing a circus scene basically useless. The pie however is brilliant. Perfect for a bakery scene with croissants. Aerobics Instructor - The sweatband on the head limits the usefulness of the head, but it would look good on a Tennis Player torso. The hair is quite useful. The torso looks like it could also be a tank top, if you ignore the belt. The light purple boom box would be at home in a lot of City type scenes. Detective - Lots of good stuff here. The head's mutton chops would look right on the right sort of minifig. The torso has some nice possibilities and it is always good to have more khaki legs. The deerstalker hat has all sorts of possibilities. The magnifying glass is again would work with the right circumstances. Dwarf Warrior - Not much to use for a City sort of minifig except the black beard. Boxer - Most of the parts are character specific. The legs would make a nice pair of shorts or a bathing suit for some deserving minifig trying to beat the heat. Pharaoh Queen - Again a lot of character specific pieces. The head is probably the most useful part here. Gangster - Oodles of usefulness here. Nice to see another suit torso. The black fedora can come in handy. The gun is always useful. The violin case could be put to less violent uses. The head would look great on a lot of minifigs - I think it would be great on a chef. Snowboarder - The head isn't too useful with the big set of goggles. The torso has a lot of potential and the toque could be used in a lot of places. -
I thought the head worked, seeing it as more of a thinking expression. The torso is Part 973px184c01 Torso Adventurers Orient Jacket, Shirt, Bow Tie, Pockets, Buckle Pattern / Dark Gray Arms / Brown Hands I swapped out the brown hands for yellow, obviously.
