  2. it Sir Dano! I always enjoy Adventurer Desert/Mummy scenes, and this one is fantastic. I really like how you blended the light grey and tan bricks in the tomb. This is something that I don't think many would have tried, but you did so very well adding to the nice detail. The arches look great as well. I had a similar vision a number of years ago with this being the outcome: MORE PICTURES I love your addition of the skeletons, which reminds me of the scene from the movie, Mummy. Very nice. I love the action scene!
  3. Wow! What imagination AlienCat. I saw this on Brother Brick last week, and am impressed with the entire scene. It takes a unique vision to create the "black manifestation" as you have done so as it takes over the modular town. The addition of the Fabuland characters even add one more level of creative complexity to the mix. Great job with amazing detail!
  4. Thanks for sharing an early review Kanal. I think this is an awesome set! Classic hinges, an interior with two seats and "camping stuff" including a Wild West frying pan. - Very nice colors and even a bed area above the truck, this has all the makings of a well-thought out design, topped off with some very nice stickers. Sure, I would have preferred printed pieces, but the stickers are very nice. I love the lime green. - Plus a classic red bicycle and surf board, this is great stuff! It's not four-studs wide, but I give this set high marks in my Classic Town perspective. I may be buying two of these and will be taking mine to the beach (Lego beach that is). Sharp! EDIT: and BLOGGED!
  5. No problem. It was in fact a good question. I didn't realize it until I went to see what color I should make the digital backdrop based on the boxart. Thanks WF. I'm glad you like it. You have a Classic Town style about you that warrants a good opinion/perspective when it comes to judging classic town sets. It is a German Cafe, in fact. I was going to make some custom stickers, but I didn't get around to it. Instead, I created the little Cafe sign using the 1x1 letter tiles. The vehicle is the Cafe's delivery truck, with the same colors. I had thought about making it a bakery or candy shop, opting for a small cafe instead. EDIT: Here's a few more detailed images:
  6. Very few actually. Maybe the food and the cups (because I didn't feel like getting the old blue ones out from the garage). The wheels of the construction vehicle, and the little red light pieces - that's really it. Oh, and I added the new torso for the window cleaner since his back was against the camera - a wanted a little detail here. Thanks Guss! Good point Shadows. Classic Town did span many years. I even included a few faces that had the classic smile, but one with a mustache, and the other with glasses. These are actually classic town as well, even older than most people think. Thanks Otters! If you look at some of the old boxart, like Main Street as an example, all the road signs face the camera. I actually turned them for the picture, just like the box. '78-'79: a few of my favorite years for Lego, as well as being a kid. Thanks everyone for the feedback! This scene was particularly enjoyable to build, and I actually enjoy looking at it.
  7. My entry for the Classic Town Contest, "1979": I may modify this creation and share a few more pictures, but here's my first version. It's great to be back among friends. Comments welcome
  8. Thanks KD. I was looking for your opinion here, as a WW fan. Yes, I agree with you completely, and was waiting for someone to bring up this point. Farms can relate to any theme. We've seen great Castle farms as well as well as those more relating to the Wild West. Why not? With some modification you can easily incorporate the barn. With the cows, fence pieces and other elements, these can easily be used as part of a WW farm. I was thinking about "spooking up the barn" for a Grave Stone addition. Definately, an entirely new idea to the Wild West theme. That would be awesome! Good points KD. Yes, the vehicles are definately more modernized. But then again, western ranches and cowboys are using modern machinery these days.
  9. Very nice KD. I must admit that I'm not a big fan of LDD creations, as I like to see the "real thing", but this MOD really has a nice charm about it, and is probably my favorite of your LDD creations. I like the small style about it. The sunflowers are perfect, and is also one of the best uses for those large yellow flower pieces. I'm going to have to order some of these. These would make a great addition to one's Tabletop Farm. This is definately a Seasonal MOC! (but then again, greenhouses are year-around, aren't they). Wonderful creation! This one deserves a BLOG!
  10. Good discussion. I enjoy reading everyones' point of view, many of which are definately calling Farm a City Sub-Theme, as Lego intended. Not exactly. Wild West is the historic theme that we're all familiar with (part of the "Lego Universe" as you call it). But I'm not talking about Wild West, but rather "Western", sort of a quasi-Wild West + Town. You might even call it "COUNTRY", a new theme entirely. Not a thesis, but rather a discussion point. I like to offer a different type of idea (a creative one you might say), and see what others think - good intellectual discussions and debates in the Trains & Town forum. I don't know about this. American farms are generally associated with the mid-west, not upstate New York. I'm not a farmer, but eastern N. America is rather cold for good crops and grain, although I'm sure farms are found in these places, as well as California. In addition, we've sort of labelled this as an American farm, but beautiful farms are found throughout Europe as well, Switzerland, France, Germany, etc, as well as other parts of the world. I would not limit the farm sets to Eastern U.S. Okay, I'll give you that one. Perhaps we don't have to call it a Fedora. Great discussion!
  11. Interesting point Mania3. To some, "western" may take a historic connotation, but other might equate "western" as cowboys, horses, boots, jeans, and a belt buckle big enough to serve a sirloin on; as in "Western Clothing".
  12. I've been admiring my little farm diorama on the tabletop, and as I was looking at the great black & white cows, and an awesome blue tractor, it got me thinking... Is Lego's official Farm theme a sub-theme of City; or perhaps, does it lend itself to a sub-theme of Wild West. Some might argue that Wild West is before the 1900s, but what about "WESTERN"? Couldn't you consider a barn, silo, cows, tractors, and minifigs with country-style fedoras western? Perhaps the mid-west? What are your thoughts on this subject? esp. from some of you fans of the Wild West theme? Is Farm really a City sub-theme? What do you think? Some visuals to help picture the theme: 7637 Farm on Brickset
  13. Great review Mat with some really nice close-up images. This is definately a 5 in my book! You know it! Far left side of the image
  14. Interesting, So for the majority, seasons do not affect Tabletowns. Many of you build what you want to build throughout the year, with perhaps some very slight seasonal effect from EB/building contests. I was really thinking that seasons do impact your MOCs, although most of my creations center around the dusty streets of a barren ghost town, idealy in Fall.
  15. I was just looking at this on Brickshelf Sir N. You never seize to amaze me with your outstanding creations! I really like the colors you selected for this creation, making it very unique. I love the interior of the 2nd floor -just fantastic! I'm going to take a look at this again to pick up some of the fine details; there are so many. Great work as always!
  16. If you mean the distance between track: A single piece of track is 16 studs long x 8 studs wide. The space between the raised track is 4 studs, meaning the track is actually one stud away from the end of the railroad ties. Ties are 2 x 8. You can check out Peeron which shows a picture.
  17. Blogged on Classic Town from CoolerTD's Brickshelf images. Here's the link.
  18. We added the Sideline Scenes to expand the contest to all, but my point is that we have had a few seasonal contests. So getting back to the topic, I think that not only does the weather impact MOCs, but even building contests.
  19. Eurobricks' Trains & Town Forum has Achieved 200 Reviews! Over the last several years, EB Trains & Town reviewers, with help from the Reviewers Academy, have shared a total of 200 town and town sub-theme reviews. Fantastic reviews can be found from sets dating back to 1974. What an awesome history of Trains & Town! And who is the 200th set reviewer? EB Lady Cutlass IZ, with a creative review of set 8401 City Minifigs. Congratulations Cutlass IZ! You can check out the Comprehensive Index of Trains & Town sets right HERE!
  20. (as I sip my morning coffee) Nice review Cutlass_IZ, and funny at that. I picked this set up over the weekend on sale at Target (here in the U.S). I haven't opened it yet, but I like the little components. A boom box, bench, street sign, and hydrant - all very useful to a City scene. And with the new Bus/City Corner set coming, I think this will make a nice supplemental set. The figs can be waiting for the new City Bus to arrive. Great review! Now I'm going to enjoy my coffee (won't say who made it ). EDIT: Oh, I love the blond lady. That torso looks familiar:
  21. Interesting - and a pretty dark creation. I esp. like the landscaping design and the fire.
  22. Not really for Spring, but last winter, we had Snowbox Derby and Build & Decorate a Train Car. These were very much seasonal.
  23. Miners meet Wild West. I love it! Very creative and unique. Nice!
  24. KD: This is a nice addition to Lego's official line-up. I like the use of the blue classic town shutters for the bar doors. Nice sign, and I like the white fence pieces (clever use of these that add a unique style). Good sloping awning over the 1st floor. My only suggestion is to add a few layers to the 2nd floor. It looks a bit low. Oh, almost forget... That's a great water pump/spicket. It's a bit hard to see it in the picture, but it adds a nice element of detail. I don't think I've seen one before in other WW creations -nice.
  25. This is one of the best WW creations that I've seen. I'm really impressed with the entire town. I'd LOVE to see Lego offer an official set along this line. This was blogged a few days ago on Classic Town and then on Brothers Brick. It's fantastic!
