Well, LEGO Ideas' Exo Suit sort of counts as Classic Space, and their upcoming Pirate Bay set definitely counts as Classic Pirates!
As far as I think, LEGO Ideas may be the only way to give non-licensed Classic themes more new products.
-
Playmobil have had Ghostbusters sets on the shelves for three years already, so it is not really recent. I don't know how long their products last at retail, but I imagine they might be on their way out and it might also be that their license period is coming to an end. Or of course, it might be that neither company has an exclusive license although that would seem strange given what happens with other IPs. Whereas the Scooby Doo Playmobil sets have only just been released (at least, in the UK, at Argos), and are not for sale at Amazon (UK) yet. I will be really surprised if Playmobil and LEGO have Scooby Doo sets out at the same time, released within months of each other.
Oh, okay. I forgot that Playmobil's Ghostbusters line was released in 2017! My bad. Heh-heh. BTW, I would still love to see a LEGO Hanna-Barbera CMF happen.
-
Playmobil are currently doing Scooby Doo sets that have only recently hit shelves. I doubt both companies would have Scooby Doo toys out at the same time.
Well, Playmobil's licensing agreement shouldn't impact LEGO Scooby-Doo at all. Think of both Ghostbusters toylines from LEGO and Playmobil. The latter recently got the Ghostbusters license, but LEGO is apparently making Ghostbusters: Afterlife sets this Summer!
So, anything is possible!

This is heartbreaking!
Condolences to his family. RIP Jens.

Not quite. Mystery machine was the big seller, then mummy museum (cheap impulse buy) and then the lighthouse. The mansion was a shelf-warmer given it’s high price and poor execution, and ended up deeply discounted.
What about the Mystery Plane Adventures set?
-
Scooby-Doo sets sold out within hours of release, I'd say the theme did well. Btw, I do think the wave was good, just some minifig choices could've been different. Captain Cutler, btw is kind of easy to make purist (CMF series 8 Diver), and the Space Kook could use the large diving apparatus.
And I do think that LEGO can balance profit and fan satisfaction. Fan votes and Ideas (for the most part) demonstrate this well, but in the end, as fans we take the good with the less than ideal.
Thanks for a solid discussion btw.
Actually, I heard only the Mystery Machine and Mystery Mansion sets sold successfully, but the other three sets did not.

Winnie the Pooh set was approved so we will be getting that license
LEGO previously made Winnie-the-Pooh Duplo sets. Is anyone aware of that?
Other than that, I look forward to it!
-
I’m happy for Winnie-the-Pooh passing the review! By the way, LEGO already did a theme for Disney’s Winnie-the-Pooh.
https://lego.fandom.com/wiki/Winnie_the_Pooh_(Theme)
Thus makes Winnie-the-Pooh the first LEGO Ideas set to be based on an discontinued theme that LEGO previously made!

Yeah BrickHeadz is probably the chance to see Lego Scooby Doo again, but quite honestly I just think the deal is over. This movie was probably the last chance of seeing any other Scooby related Lego, but we would've known it by now if that was the case. I just hope we'll get more Hanna Barbera stuff with Lego ideas. But even those are disappointing, not even giving us the entire Flintstone cast.
However I'll have to disagree that Lego makes a profit rather than satisfy fans and collectors. Sure they jump from license to license without giving us every possible thing, but by doing that they're at least able to touch on licenses that we otherwise would never get. And thus satisfying collectors and fans who like multiple ip's rather than just one. Otherwise we would've never gotten a theme like Scooby Doo in the first place. Of course we are not completely satisfied, but something is better than none. And I know there would be people saying things like: "Well I prefer only the Scooby Doo theme but done well rather than multiple one-off themes like Scooby Doo, Powerpuff Girls, Doctor Who, Angry Birds, Incredibles etc. But another would say they rather have one for Powerpuff Girls instead. In the end they satisfy more people by giving every fandom a small piece rather than giving one fandom everything. And sure it's all about profit too, they're a company after all, but it must go hand in hand with satisfying people, because a satisfied customer is a paying one. I for one rather miss out on every single untouched Scooby Doo villain or all remaining Simpsons characters, rather than having to miss out on all the other licensed themes we could still get.
Well said! I agree with the idea of LEGO making a profit and satisfying their fans and collectors at the same time, which is very difficult for a company to do. However, I'd really like to see LEGO acknowledge their past licensed themes introduced via LEGO Ideas such as Doctor Who, Adventure Time, Voltron, etc. by making new sets for those themes every once in a while.
We might as well wait and see what LEGO has in store for us in 2021, but I'll try not to get my hopes up for LEGO Scooby-Doo to make a comeback next year.
-
You are 100% right with that. I think there is a lot of potential for cool playsets, top. The reason I doubt we will see a Scooby line in the near future is a different one.
Lego wants to maximize their profits. That means it isn't about satisfying collectors. They take a licence, bring a few sets including some popular characters and go on to the next one. We already had a Scooby wave not long ago. Lots of children own the whole gang already. Some because they got them on their own, some because of older brothers and sisters. Most adult collectors own them probably, too. The Ghostbusters on the other hand had one ideas set long ago, three dimensions sets (not counting the one for the Reboot), the HQ no child was getting because of the prize and a Ecto 1&2 for the terrible reboot. There is a much higher chance to reach buyers that don't own an older version. Especially the UCS Ecto1 is something completely new.
Now I understand that LEGO is trying to make a profit rather than satisfy fans and collectors. If LEGO ever releases another Scooby-Doo set, it would pretty much have to be BrickHeadz. I really would have loved to see more Hanna-Barbera IPs after LEGO Ideas The Flintstones, but that LEGO Ideas set might have sold poorly.

You're the first I've seen bring that up, which is surprising. It's the first thing I thought. And isn't DB based on Chinese Monkey King mythology?
Is this a practice run for a DB licensed theme in a few years? They did Pirates before PotC, Dwarves before LotR, Monster Fighters before Scooby Doo, right? Actually I could have some of those backwards but you get the idea.
Now that would be amazing! LEGO Ideas won’t even allow product ideas based on the Dragon Ball franchise, and only time will tell!

A good friend of mine is hardcore into collecting Pokémon. She knows most of the merchandise lines and so on. As far as i know from her Nintendo is and was allways extremely protective about its properties especially action figures and figurines. The company has it's production organized and is successfull. They don't need a partner like Lego. Small packages with a few Lego sized figures cost as much as a Lego set with them probably would/should. I highly doubt we will see sets.
Even if that would not be the case it doesn't seem likely that Lego would produce so many new moulds.
Link needs a new headgear, Shield ans sword or he will look awefull.
Every Pokemon needs a special mould.
Mario and Luigi could use the same hat. Peach needs new hair. Browser or Donkey kong should be big figs. Minifigs of them would need headmoulds...
Yeah, I still wish Mega Construx would lose the Pokémon license to LEGO one day. BTW, Mega Construx isn’t doing minifigure-scale Pokémon sets at all!

With the recent acquisition of Bricklink by TLG and a combined project already using AFOL designs on Stud.io and produced by TLG, I think it is clear that TLG are endorsing Stud.io as the way forward.
I find it interesting that so many people still cling to LDD with the hope that it will be resurrected, when IMO this will never happen. BL has done a major part of the development for TLG and a lot of people I have talked to who were once LDD users are now all moved across to Stud.io. Is it perfect ? Hell No! Is it an improvement ? IMO most definately ! Is it being updated? Constantly! I can also do all my renders and instructions in one place.Agree wholeheartedly @MatthewRC that the mechanics can be quite frustrating at times but you slowly get used to it!
I salute those of you who have your convictions for LDD but hoping that it will be restored to a market leader I think is a total dream (Unless TLD blend the best features of both in the near future!)
Don’t forget applying custom printed decals to LEGO parts on Part Designer, too!
-
2020 and still no news from TLG about LDD, thanks LEGO for you rsupport of the community xD. Now I spend the double of time using Stud.io to make the same design (a lot of useful tools and professional, but horrible mechanics and "gameplay")
It'll take a while getting used to.

As far as I know the CMF is selling very well, the current selection of sets.... not so much
Well, I'm glad the DC CMF is selling successfully (looking forward to a potential DC Series 2), but I feel sorry for the playsets.
I hope LEGO can find a way to improve DC playsets' sales.
-
Falconfan being his usual cryptic self (ugh) just said in his IG story : "I feel sorry for fans of the DC Lego theme"
I hope the upcoming disappointing LEGO DC products don’t sell poorly and impact the theme!
By the way, how is the LEGO DC Comics CMF selling?

Look, Playmobil and LEGO have different formats. Since LEGO is making Ghostbusters: Afterlife sets later this year, Playmobil’s Ghostbusters line never affected the LEGO Ghostbusters license. Hopefully the same thing applies to Scooby-Doo, and maybe Back to the Future too!

Zebras are several species of African equids (horse family) united by their distinctive black-and-white striped coats. Their stripes come in different patterns, unique to each individual. They are generally social animals that live in small harems to large herds. Unlike their closest relatives, horses and donkeys, zebras have never been truly domesticated...
Seriously, what the heck are you talking about?
Project Zebra is something mentioned by @Falconfan1414

Here is my "Indiana Jones Trilogy" submission!
It is constructed in the style of the LEGO Architecture Skyline series and features the iconic locations where famous archeologist, Indiana Jones, recovered priceless historical artifacts:- The Temple of Doom (Sankara Stones) [1935, The Temple of Doom]
- The Well of Souls (The Ark of the Covenant) [1936, Raiders of the Lost Ark]
- Temple of the Sun (The Holy Grail) [1938, The Last Crusade]
Nice product idea! I’d personally love to see LEGO Indiana Jones make a comeback one day.

Does anyone remember Dexter's Laboratory on Cartoon Network? I've designed an amazing model of Robo-Dexo 2000 from certain episodes like Let's Save the World, You Jerk! and The Big Sister.

I added this YouTube video to show more details of my model. I hope this is allowed.

@Digger of Bricks I’ve been wondering exactly how you were able to attach images to your post. I’ve been trying to do the same thing, but had no luck.

You are absolutely welcome, @Captain Nemo!

I don't think I'll get this set anytime soon, but I am totally looking forward to seeing what new-mold parts (if any) are included in this set!

I hope Hasbro’s action figure licensing deal isn’t exclusive in order for that to happen.
