Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
swisstony replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
For all those who say Police Station, there are others who hope it isn't ..namely those who have done MOC's. I can think of quite a few but Bricky Brick is one with his lovely interpretation police station by Chris Dodsworth, on Flickr and then ours that we did last year ( or was it the year before, I can't remember :) ) I know that Lego would do a far better job than us but we don't need two on our street ! So here's hoping its a garage/recording studio/apartment IMG_0312 by Chris Dodsworth, on Flickr -

WE both think this is FAKE. Couple of reasons, the packaging at the bottom shows the townhall way too small compared to the other buildings. I know they may play around with the proportions to allow it to be displayed in a strip but even then it is way out against the pet shop. Second the facade on AS looks all wrong . The studs or jumpers are too pronounced compared to what Lego use. IMG_4982 by Chris Dodsworth, on Flickr -

Thanks for the mention on the possible police station Now whilst we would love to see Lego release the next modular as a Police station as ultimately they would do such a great job of it, better than ours, we feel it should be something else , maybe a hospital or bookstore/apartments maybe. It also means that we get to keep our MOC on our street as a unique one, selfish I know but what the hell :) Fingers crossed they tell us soon as in our house the excitement level has just ramped up a notch of late. First the news of the release of Taj Mahal and now the next modular. Cmon Lego, tell us !!! -

Like many people I am sure, we struggled with how to display the Skyline sets but after seeing a post on Brother Brick I had to try this out. Just grab some Ikea Frames http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/search/?k=KASSEBY display box and with some careful modding on three of the sets you can just squeeze them in. Double sided tape, some careful measuring and voila, a mini art gallery for the sets. Bonus is no dusting !! :)

It all depends on a) are you intending to collect them all at some point or b) just collecting the ones you think look nice/can afford. If it is a) then go for the oldest one that is available before it retires so that would be DO , if it is b) then AS would look great next to PR. Just my opinion :) -
Man sooooo much want !! We are big fans of two things here, our nespresso coffee machine and Lego and you have managed to combine both of them in this one modular . From the outside you have created some stunning window details and I think the overall structure is genius all the way up to the top. The roof is lovely as well and carefully planned out and then you have excelled yourself on the details on the inside. Even all the way down to the way the display the nespresso pods and boxes. Love it !!

ah I see what you mean .. we wanted it to fit into the street so hence the 32x32 and also pass scrutiny for Lego Ideas so hence making it that size. But I like the idea of the extra 16 plate , could have a lot of fun with that plan :)

Glad you like the changes we have made from the original concept. We also agree that Lego need a Police station in the lineup as currently the mini figures are running amok in the street without a care in the world and although they have a detective onsite, he is far too busy tracking down cheating husbands :) And the poor fire brigade have their work cut out rescuing cats stuck up in trees and putting out fires. So we need some proper laws and order .. it seems we are not alone in thinking this as there have been quite a few Police stations come along in the last few months so we are on to something ! We would have liked to put space for parking etc but to be honest the 32x32 base is so tight and we would have had to make it huge ( 2 plates) to accommodate that ..see Dakar A on how he did his http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/149518-moc-police-headquarters/ or lose some of the interior details and rooms. Its a tough choice but I see your point. Thanks for the comments though, always appreciated.

Brilliant design and perfect exterior. The way you have captured the exterior details is superb and the inside with all the little quirks and features is just as impressive. I noted your comment on our build of a Police station where you said you were in the middle of creating something similar and I can see why now ! I also see your comment on us squeezing it all into one 32x32 was good and why you have used two base plates as yours is huge !! It must weigh something with all those bricks. I do love the windows and the columns and how it looks great from any angle, something not easy to pull off but you have managed it so well played sir

HI everyone and as promised after staring at the Police station for many weeks, I realised many of your comments ( especially the ones listed above) made sense. And so armed with LDD, I made a few major changes to the three floors, mostly concentrating on the following : 1. The middle floor did not flow with the other two floors especially the windows. 2. The building did not sit flush with the other modulars in terms of technic bricks and pins 3. Top floor needed to include sand blue on the tiles 4. Mixture of brick and window styles So here is middle floor BEFORE and AFTER ( saves having to flick backwards and forwards) BEFORE AFTER Top floor has been cleaned up and Sand blue added. BEFORE AFTER You will notice we have lost the guns as they just didn't work and added in sand blue columns to match the other two floors . Also expanded the windows from two to three to give more light and match the middle floor . Ground floor has only been tweaked to include the half pin technic to fill up the P in the Police sign and also add in sand blue instead of white. BEFORE AFTER We have also moved the entire ground floor back two studs to make it line up with the other modulars. God that was a pain !! The whole raised floor was under pinned so that all had to be moved and the pavement altered but we agree it looks better now. And finally all three floors together . BEFORE AFTER We hope you like the alterations we have made, any other suggestions are welcome. Thank you !

as per your idea , nice one

some fantastic colours , they really just POP out and the details are great ...love it !

You are more than welcome... as you can see I have the other version but with the smaller drawers but unless you have tiny parts ( fnaaar fnaar) the bins soon fill up. Unlike our US brothers and sisters who can get those Akro-mills for cents, us brits have to either pay top dollar or make do with the inferior stuff.
