  1. Nobody has gotten these?
  2. Is it okay to talk about these? I got the Hellboy one on a whim and it was a lot of fun to build and looks really neat! Anyone recommend any others? I've ordered the Spock and Ezio (Assassin's Creed) ones through Amazon.
  3. Frankenstein's monster or creature. Frankenstein is the name of the doctor who created the monster. Sorry, that's a pet peeve of mine. ;)
  4. Yes, the Lepin baseplates are considerably thicker than the Lego versions. Luckily, green and tan baseplates are easy to find at Toys R' Us and other stores.
  5. My only problem with this is that this set is still available from Lego.
  6. Market Street is done! No missing pieces, but one 1x1 brick was not fully formed and one 1x6 tile was warped beyond usability. Neither one was critical. Brick quality is very good, a little looseness occasionally, but I've gotten that with Lego sometimes, too.
  7. Received my order (Market Street) today that I ordered on the 21st. Shipped by DHL with no problems. Once I build it, I'll give a report on any missing pieces (there are two pieces that are deformed, probably by heat). Luckily, yesterday I received the baseplates I ordered via Bricklink.
  8. Also my first time with aliexpress. Ordered Market Street and Green Grocer to see how it goes. Will get the rest of the retired modular sets if everything goes okay and as finances allow.
  9. Well, Lego just moved up my timeline regarding purchasing Lepin sets. Now, instead of waiting until after I get all the current Lego modulars (from Lego), I'll be buying the Lepin versions of the discontinued sets on Aliexpress first.
  10. Well, since no one was answering me about the baseplates, I did a little more research and found out this information: Café Corner and Green Grocer both use two 16x32 green plates, Market Street and Fire Brigade both use two 16x32 dark grey plates, and Grand Emporium and Town Hall both use 32x32 tan plates. Further investigation into the instructions doesn't show me any reason I can't use a 32x32 green on CC and GG. The green and tan 32x32 are readily available, but I think I'll have to use Bricklink or Brick Owl to get the grey plates. As I said, the Pet Shop (which is still being produced, so get it from Lego!) is actually two buildings, a brownstone townhouse and a pet shop with an apartment above, so it requires two 16x32 plates. However, I don't see anything in the instructions for the retired sets that necessitates using two plates, unless I'm missing something?
  11. Thanks, Bat Man! Do you know what plates the retired sets (CC, MS, GG, FB, GE, and TH) use? And could I substitute 32x32 for two 16x32 plates? Thanks again for the reply. By the way, If you are in the US, grey 32x32 can be found at Target. I'm wrong, they'e 48x48.
  12. Doctor Who! Doctor Who! DOCTOR WHO! There are 12 (well, technically 13) different Doctors to make sets from! And many companion minifigs to make, as well! The Ideas set got me into Lego, and I'd love to see more Who sets, especially the 4th Doctor.
  13. I wish Lego would re-release the retired modulars, but I've decided to get them from Lepin if I must. I'm going to build all the available Lego sets first, and then I'll get the retired ones from Lepin, hoping that Lego changes their minds in the interim. My question concerns baseplates. I've read that Lepin uses thicker baseplates than Lego. The ones in my Pet Shop set were definitely thinner than regular building plates If this Is the case, I'd like to use the thinner plates on the Lepin sets, for compatability between sets. What size plates do the retired sets use? 32x32 plates are readily available at retail stores, but I don't think I've ever seen 16x32, which is what the Pet Shop uses. Now, that's actually two buildings, so it might be different from the other sets.
  14. And, if it's a product that Lego no longer produces, you're not taking any money away from Lego. They've already sold all the sets they made. You're just not feeding in to the outrageous aftermarket. I'm seriously considering getting Lepin modular buildings that Lego no longer makes. Of course, I'd rather give my money to Lego.
  15. My only problem will be the retired sets. I certainly can't afford to get any of them. I've heard of something called Lepin. Anyone have experience with that?
  16. Love the Pet Shop, so I ordered the Palace Cinema.
  17. On to the Palace Cinema! Just ordered it!
  18. Finished! Okay, I'm hooked. I need the rest of them. (the current ones, I mean. The retired sets are WAY out of my price range!) It was very fun to build. I really liked all the details, I just wish there were more animals!
  19. And I can't stop grfinning! This is my fourth Lego set and far and away the most complex. I've completed section one - not very Pet Shop-py, more like the first floor of a brownstone - but I still am having a blast!
  20. Got the Doctor Strange Sanctum Sanctorum set. Fun little display for a movie I'm really looking forward to.
  21. First thing I thought of, too! Someone needs to make Michael Palin and John Cleese minifigures.
  22. Ordered the Pet Shop modular building. My first modular building.
  23. Hi there! I'm 51 and a very new Lego hobbyist. It was the Doctor Who set. I couldn't resist (now they need to do a Tom Baker set!). I don't remember having Legos when I was younger; I remember having Lincoln Logs and an Erector set.
