  1. Just remembered something interesting looking at this years Crisco catalogue. They have a number of Lego sets in. This could be helpful to those that cant fork out a lot of money in one go and don't mind waiting, they have: Large pink brick box & building plate 5560 for $2.25 per week 40 weeks total = $90 Large blue brick box & building plate 6166 for $2.25 per week 40 weeks total = $90 Creator Sonic Boom 5892 for $3.00 per week 40 weeks total = $120 City Fire Station 7208 for $4.50 per week 40 weeks total = $180 City Police MC 7235 + Police Helicopter 7741 + off road Fire truck & Fireboat 7213 for $3.00 per week 40 weeks total = $120 City truck 3221 + repair truck 3179 + seaplane 3178 for $2.75 per week 40 weeks = $110 City Airport 3182 for $4.75 per week 40 weeks total = $190 City Passenger train 7938 for $6.75 per week 40 weeks total = $270 I have my eye on the train set for christmas unless money comes available soonish. Hope this gives some more ideas.
  2. Our local Warehouse flyer just came today (why rural get it on Tuesday and we get it on Wednesday is wierd) anyway, the City Police Station 7498 is $139.99 (save $50) Atlantis has 25% off and Hero Factory is any 2 for $30 (save upto $21.98) It shows 2 of the rounded containers, stormer and bug I think they are.
  3. Basically I was going to replicate the set and then go from there on altering it. I have always loved this set since first laying eyes on it so thought it a good place to start.
  4. Instead of making another topic I thought i'd add it here. I'm getting a bit stuck for roof parts. The 6215 Brick, modified 2x3 with curved top are ridiculously priced for the Light Grey ones and I can't find enough light bluish grey to do the job. I was wondering if anyone had a good idea for an alternative that looks the same. I did have a look at the topic just recently where the guy used all Pab bricks to make the cars but these are 1x2x3 curved and I think the gaps look at little too rude. No offence to the guy who made them good on ya for doing it but it's not my cup-of-tea sorry.
  5. Thanks for that info VGS, yeah I have had a quick look at port hole windows, grey are going around the $26 NZD which isnt to flash :) The other down fall for me is the main windscreen, the original had the red border and spilt, if memory serves me right these are around $20 as well. It's a shame really but the model's are just going to be for me so I might swap the windscreen for an all trans clear 2x3x2 I think it is. And I'm also looking at something along the lines of 90195 if I can get glass for this too or some 2377 ones. Sorry to just put the BL number for them in but it will give you an idea where I'm thinking of going.
  6. I have seen some where a build of 2 Santa Fe engines back to front with a carriage inbetween and instead of the all grey colours, this one had the bottom part done with the red and yellow to match the engines. Now this looks awesome to me but what should go inbetween the engines if anything ? The reason I'm asking is because I'm making a replica set of this famous model/set and not being too train wise I don't want to look silly and put a dinner car there lol when it should be say the baggage car or quarters for the engine drivers.
  7. Cool,it's amazing the little things you forget you can do lol. Thanks Super.
  8. Just thought of this idea. After importing or free building a model you could make LDD disassemble that model and layout all the bricks used by using the items ID number so all the colours of the same brick are together, with just a click of a button. With me atm I'm doing this by hand so I can see which bricks I already have, delete these and what's left I can import into LDD Manager to make the parts list of what I need.
  9. Just making a few brick lists for up coming projects in LDD then loading the parts into Ldd Manager to make the lists ( this is awesome btw ). I tried to export the list using the 'copy to excel' button but it came up with an error. Now I'm assuming because I don't have any MS Office programs on this computer i.e. Excel, it cannot generate the specific file. Now I use for office work "OpenOffice.org" which is the free Java equivalent to MS Office and fully compatable to a degree. OpenOffice.org does come with an Excel data base program called "OpenOffice.org Calc". Is there anyway to add into the programming of LDD Manager the ability to use these programs instead of the MS ones or something I can alter in there to point it to the Calc instead of the Excel ?
  10. Hi all, When I first started getting into Lego trains, I decided to do some homework first about prices and availability. That is when I came across Enlighten among many other brands of bricks. I decided to purchase the Frisco Fe and a box of track 8x curves & 8x straight. At the same time I acquired (with the help of my lovely wife) an old 9v set that had extra track, so the Enlighten brown track now needed to be able to conduct if I'm going to use it with the Lego stuff. More research was done on this subject with the outcome of using copper foil already cut to the right width (anyone wanting to know is 7/32IN). That gives enough equal cover top and both sides so it doesn't look funny. It takes a lot of time and patience to get it right, more so on the curves than the straights but the outcome was great as you'll see soon. I am in the process of uploading youtube video's of my Frisco Fe and the track in a test run handled by my 2 1/2 year old son. (he did a great job for his age). I'll add the link/s here so people can see the outcome. Ok 4/5 done and here's the link to the first, I will say that the track is awesome, it fits perfectly to Lego track and you don't really mind the brown colour. The track joins are exactly the same as Lego's but my son did break off one of the little half circle clip bits that the whole circle of the other track fits into (if you understand that). But in the tracks defence having a 2 1/2 yo pulling it apart and together again can do that lol. I'll do a review of the Engine another time. My mum always said don't knock it till you've tried it. Normally that was for the cooking but I think it can mean anything. Edit: One thing I will add, after adding the copper foil to the tracks it made the engine seem to run smoother and quieter than lego track.
  11. For starters one of the shops I'm looking to buy my first lot of bits from is in Germany of all places, I already have an account with BL and also one for Paypal (ebay buying). The store I'm looking into is quite big and has great feedback, is this going to be like TradeMe and you can pretty much go off of the feedback to see how a seller is going to be ? Has anyone Bought from over sea's and can comment on the packaging and postage times they have experienced ect ? My first order is only going to be about $40 all up depending on what the postage is going to change to. I think our currency exchange at the moment is quite good for buying oversea's too. Edit: Just looking at Gelo's store, is it a good idea to contact the store your looking at to make sure they have the item's in stock before ordering or can you go off of what it is showing ?
  12. Hi NZ'ers, I only joined EB a week or so ago but thanking I did. I managed to score 3x Darth Vader's TIE Fighter 8017 for $30 each, these were on clearance in our local Warehouse a few weeks ago . I was in there last weekend and saw the Space Police Lunar Limo for $35 and the Space Police Undercover Cruiser for $30 and there were quite a few of them. Unfortunately with house reno's and a new born coming in 2 months I couldn't warrant buying any. I have only just got back into Lego about a year ago after taking my son to a (think Hornby) model train expo, only to find a huge Lego train layout sitting at the back of the room. Since them I have been Lego mad lol. In this time I have only managed to pick up a few sets of Lego and only buy 2nd hand or clearance stuff to keep the money down and the wife happy lol. Well it's awesome to find more Kiwi's on here and I hope to participate in some of the discussions. P.S. Any of you used Bricklink to get stuff? I'm thinking of ordering a few bits and pieces but looking to gather some word-of-mouth so to speak about it all before diving in and getting burned.
  13. Hi. I have now recieved the program through email thankfully it did work ok :). Now it's time to install, sit back and work through making part lists so I can get my bricks through PAB. Thanks again all. I look forward to many eventful posts in my future with Eurobricks.
  14. Nope, I even did a connection trouble shoot and that says something is wrong with the skydrive site it's hosted on. Hmm is there anywhere else I can get this file from ? There is a problem with Skydrive not allowing downloads of files 10mb or more to (from what I have figured) a large majority of people around the globe. There have been some talk of work arounds like adding ?path= in the middle of the url or ?download at the end but from what I have tryed and what I have read these do not work. Is anybody able to email me the zip or add it to a different host other than skydrive please. ?
  15. Nice Tiger, glad you took time out to help with your knowledge. Now, I put the Lego power pack I have already, through the controller along with the track connector lead and measured the output at maximum. Using my multimeter set at 20 DCV ther output was 9.16. I first tried the 9V AC pack, connected it all up and took a reading of 9.16, the same as the lego one. I did try the 12V DC pack I also have but couldnt get a reading for some reason and with my son pestering me I have had to call it quits for a while. Thanks heaps though all.
  16. Cool, thanks brickaroo. Trust good old Dicksmith to have something like that lol. Just one thing though, the original output is 10v and this is going to be 9v will there be a lot more voltage drop on larger tracks than if it had the 10v going through it?
  17. Hi, thought i'd give this prog a go to generate brick lists for easy ordering but i am having trouble dl'ing it from the links provided. The webpage seems to time out when hitting the download button. :( Is this something im doing wrong or is it something wrong with the site it'self ?. Cheers.
  18. Hi all. Ok here's the problem i bought a controller and power pack not knowing it was for (i think) the european market. For those that don't know im in new zealand. Now what im trying to do is swap the power pack for an equivalent i have at home but im having trouble figuring it all out. I don't want to add power to the controller until im certain i won't blow anything inside. Now i already have a power pack for nz usage so im going off of what it says on the label to find the equivalent. This is what it says. PRI: 240V ~ 50 Hz (Power in 240 Volts at 50 Hz) SEC: 10V ~ 7 VA (Power out 10 Volts at 7 Volt amps (i think)) Now i have narrowed down 2 power packs which are: Input: 100-240V ~ 50-60Hz 0.5A Output: 12V === 1.0A 12.0W The other Pack is: Input: 240V ~ 50Hz 100mA Output: 9v ~ 800mA 7.2VA These power packs are from old wireless routers and luckily they have the right size connector on the end. If im able to use one of these it will save me having to hunt down and buy another power pack off bricklink or somewhere. I do have a multimeter but lack the knowledge of what settings to use to test the output. Im assuming that the controller it's self will be standard and that it's the power pack i cant use, the reason i cant use the pack is because of the voltage input. The label on it says: Input: 120VAC 60Hz Output: 10.8VAC 700mA 8W. Hopefully one of you will be able to help or give me some advice. Logged
