Heroica RPG - Unlimited Quest: Fields of Glory
Quarryman replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Oh joy.. this might actually be difficult.." "I do believe I can take down something like 1.5 crabs per round, so this should be manageable after a while. We do want the crabs to be angry when they die though, that way we can get them back in the best kind of shape. Gentlemen, you should probably take on some crabs, we'll just have to leave the frogs alone for now. And master Johon, you should definitely stay in the back row this time, we'll be taking a hard enough beating as it is." Magic Carp A, B, Aquaphant, Gloom Widow A, Tangleweed A, and Nutterfly A kill Angry Crab A (66+66+41+33+25+9=240) Gloom Widow B, Tangleweed B,C,E, and Death's Rose A attack Angry Crab B (33+25+25+25+15=123) Namyrra sends a wind spell at the Phoenix from the back row. OoC: so.. I'm beginning to wonder if this battle is even winnable without all of us being hastened, and Namyrra probably needs to be reinforced as well. As it is we'll be taking 14 free hits this round, and 12 the next (unless I'm very lucky and manage to take out the Phoenix this round in which case we'd be looking at 11 free hits next round. If Namyrra takes 4 free hits from frogs this round that's 30 damage, and then 30 or 21 damage next round. This basically means Namyrra will be knocked out, we'll lose all the undead and things will in general look pretty grim. So the way I see it we have three options, a) we throw a smokebomb now, use a bunch of consumables and return, or b) I try arc-blinding the lot of them and if that fails we fall back to option a. Option c) I throw agni bomb this round and aeolus bomb next round. That way we'll get rid of all the frogs, and severely damage the crabs, but that is a very high price to pay and I'd prefer to avoid throwing away those bombs. What do you guys think? -
Yeah, found her 128x multiplier now, I'd be greatly surprised if that one isn't the answer to my question. Guess I still have a way to go then..
-
Hmm, does anyone happen to remember what's the biggest amount of damage dealt in a single hit to a single target so far? Or have any ideas of battles worth checking to find out?

Quest 30, and the other two Dastan quests might be relevant too.

OoC: I took the liberty of reformatting my undead army into something a bit more compact, and I fixed a couple of errors, the Aquaphant was listed as level 42, should be 41, and there was a Tangleweed too much. "And that's it, I feel much more capable now that I have a decently sized horde of undead at my command." "As for the loot I guess there are 8 water bombs for each of us, I dare say I'm the only one of us with any use for ether cores, and I do think I'll be needing those later on in the fields, so if I might have them I'd be happy. I have no interest in the Aqua Gear, but I wouldn't mind an extra aquamarine. The health cores should obviously be distributed somewhat evenly, we can all need them at some point, if only to heal each other." "And I guess we're going to the Sanctuary to rest now, I certainly need that to replenish my ethereal energies and if I don't do that we won't get much done here. " "After we've rested I think we should go to Rainbow Falls, seem to remember from my previous time here that the creatures there can be powerful undead minions. And I feel confident now that we can start doing the 'On the Clock' challenge in every battle, we almost managed to qualify for that this battle, and now I have lots more undead at my disposal." -

"Almost done now, just need to get rid of these two.. Master Docken, I'd like to go first now, I want to maximise our chances of getting more undead raised here." Namyrra hits Gloom Widow C with Crystal Mace from the back row If first attack raises undead: Namyrra drinks a tonic Magic Carp A, Magic Carp B and Death's Rose A kill Tangleweed D. Else: Namyrra hits Tangleweed D with Crystal Mace from the back row. -

Docken has aura so Namyrra shouldn't have taken damage. "Finally.." Magic Carp A and B attack Tangleweed D Fire spell at Gloom Widow B from the back row. Fire spell at Gloom Widow C from the back row. -

OoC: hmm, I think you're right, though since your target will be dead before your turn comes you should specify a conditional action that says you'll attack either Gloom Widow B or C if A is already dead. -

"Master Johon I believe you can switch to Gloom Widow B now, my undead will take care of the first one. Would be excellent if you managed to make the next one fragile as well, that really helps a lot." Magic Carps A and B, Tangleweeds A, B, C and E kill Gloom Widow A (66*2+25*4 * 2 = 464) Namyrra sends two fire spells at Aquaphant from the back row. -

"Steadily growing, more are always welcome. " Magic Carp A, Magic Carp B, Tangleweed B, Tangleweed C and Tangleweed E kill Tangleweed A. Namyrra prepares two fire spells from the back row, at Aquaphant and Gloom Widow C. OoC: might it be an idea not to show character portraits for the undead horde? It already takes a long time to scroll past them, and the portraits serve no purpose. -

"Silly Tangleweed.." "Anyway, seeing as my chances are reasonably good for taking out a Tangleweed I'll try again, but only if I don't make the Aquaphant go crazy. I can take the health drain from the Tangleweed if it happens, as can you master Docken, and Tangleweed A won't gain anything from it as it's already at full health." Death's Rose A, Splatterfly A and Splatterfly C attack Tangleweed C Bloody Bug A, Magic Carp A and Magic Carp B kill Tangleweed E. Namyrra sends a Fire spell at Aquaphant from the back row. If the attack against the Aquaphant triggers Special Damage: Namyrra will use a remedy Else: Namyrra will send a Fire Spell at Tangleweed A from the back row. -
One thing I've been wondering about the Archmage's arc-spell ability, how does damage, special damage and free hits work with that? Is it like bombs that no enemy counts as targeted, or do all of them count as targeted? Or will the archmage have to target one enemy and then the spell bounces to all other enemies too?

Tons of last minute building to do, and I've reached the stage where I have Bricklink orders shipped directly to Chicago to finish things once I get there. Things are, as usual, a mess, but at least it's a fun mess. -

"Actually Master Docken, since master Johon can't switch targets you should hit one of the other Gloom Widows instead, that way we can minimize the amount of free hits we'll take. In fact, if you attack Gloom Widow B you'll be the only one of us taking more than one free hit, and that means master Johon won't take any damage from his free hit if he stays in the back row." "And with these two new undeads I can now get rid of Tangleweeds B and E in two rounds time, so things are starting to look reasonably good now." Death's Rose A, Mutterfly A, Splatterfly A, Splatterfly B, Magic Carp A and Magic Carp B kill Tangleweed B. Namyrra sends a fire spell at Aquaphant, and a fire spell at Tangleweed A, both from the back row. -

You forgot to fix his health in the party listing though, not sure if it matters to your calculations, but it's easier to plan when the numbers are correct. -

OoC: uhm, if Johon was in the back row he should have taken 9 damage from the free hits, not 38, and thus be at 35 health now. "Gentlemen, I think we might want to consider using some smelling salts, we need to counter some of those free hits or we'll be done for." "Master Johon, keep hitting Gloom Widow A, but stay in the back row, we need you to take as little damage as possible for now." "Master Docken, if you could spare me a health core I'd be very grateful, I can kill that silly Aquaphant if I just manage a good hit, but I can't do that if I'm knocked out. " Death's Rose A, Nutterfly A, Nutterfly B, Splatterfly A and Splatterfly C attack Tangleweed B. Namyrra consumes a smelling salts and sends a Fire spell at Aquaphant from the back row. OoC: never hurts to check an extra time to see if you're the one we're waiting for. -

OoC: so.. 42 hours since the battle was posted, can we assume Johon does as he's told and targets Gloom Widow A so we can get an update? -

"Ouch!" OoC: I think you forgot to subtract the health Namyrra lost from the Aquaphant, and you've forgotten to indicate that we're all encouraged now. "Master Docken, it seems master Johon is badly in need of healing, so we need to do something about that. I'm also in need of healing though, or I will definitely be after those beasts charge us again, so this requires some clever thinking I think." Bloody Bug A, Death's Rose A, Mutterfly A, and Splatterfly A kill Magic Carp B (6+15+7+10=38) "This is a tricky situation, I have to go last to ensure that I won't get knocked out, and the best solution for getting master Johon healed would be if I used a health core on him. So, I have a suggestion:" "Master Johon, I know this will sound weird to you being a berserker, but we really need you to stay in the back row now. This will ensure you are not knocked out if you take damage from your target, which I think should be a Gloom Widow. Master Docken, you should target the Aquaphant, we can't leave it alone, and I can't risk my whole undead army by going up against it." Namyrra uses a health core on Johon from the back row. -

I did, and then various other stuff got in the way, like this silly trip to France. Though admittedly it has been a nice trip, but it doesn't help get the MOCs done.
