Can't stop looking at these. They're great. It's like a catalogue from a parallel universe. Though I think that they would have ended up being scaled down a bit if they had made it past the prototype stage.

The last set I was bought was 8660 Arctic Rescue Unit when I was 11. It was my first and only Technic set, as even at that age I was beginning to feel the pressure of being 'too old for LEGO.' Technic was considered to be the more mature end of the LEGO spectrum, but this one had figures! I really enjoyed playing with it, but that was the (temporary) end for me and LEGO for around 15 years.

As much as I'd (unrealistically) love to see a return to the Classic Space aesthetic, that HQ is the closest that modern LEGO is going to get. It's an excellent looking set.

Brickset tells me I have 291, but it isn't entirely accurate. 181 of those being Castle - 55 of those being Forestmen. I don't think I'll ever reach (or likely want to reach) 40,000!

Castle is my favourite theme overall (Forestmen being my fave sub-theme), but Classic Space runs a very close second. Strangely enough it was the opposite way around when I was a young lad.
