I am a crane operator here in the USA. The V system you're referring to is called a "Y" guying system. It is used to help suspend the boom during heavy lifts. You can go to liebherr.com for more info or more terminology. That is an impressive model you are completing. Hope to see it done in the future and would love to build one myself.
