  1. Without seeing the problem, it is indeed difficult to help. However, from an engineering viewpoint, it sounds like the beam you're using is not torsionally stiff enough for the given length and mass you're asking it to lift. There are two solutions to this: 1. shorten the beam; or 2. make it stiffer. You could achieve 2. by increasing the depth of the beam.
  2. The Class 04 in the first photo is used on the South Devon Railway; I saw it about a month ago.
  3. I started my AROCS today. One mod so far, of an aesthetic nature, to convert it to right hand drive. So the steering wheel has moved and so have the supplementary wing mirrors.
  4. If you know track radius, body length and bogie centre dimension well then you could calculate the End Throw of the train. Do everything in mm then convert your final answer to studs. BTW: ET=(L^2-B^2)/8R L = body length B = bogie centre dimension R = track radius If you need help determining the track radius, you can do it from measuring the versine. Good luck! :)
  5. We can learn from each other's mistakes, ha! I can't wait to build it. What's the next build in between, then? Sorry if I missed it in this thread.
  6. I vote 42043. Only because mine is in the post from Germany and I might need some help as it's my first build in ages!
  7. The retractable landing gear probably looked more impressive to me as a kid, to be honest! I am going to look at modding the AROCS to make it right hand drive (easier for overtaking on UK roads!)...
  8. Thank you for the heads up for Bricklink. I got a good deal on the AROCS; a German department store having a sale AND offering a discount code! I think this could be a new beginning...
  9. Thanks Captain! Yeh, I'm an Engineer so I kind of gravitate to the Technic models. Although I used to love building spaceships with retractable landing gear etc when I was a kid. I wish I'd documented everything with photos.
  10. Hello! I lived for Lego when I was a kid - bought (and was given) loads of sets, which I duly built and then dismantled to make my own creations. Then I 'grew out of it'. My younger brother was just like me as a kid, but kept his hobby going as an adult. It was my birthday last week and he bought me the Big Ben Architecture set... and that rekindled the flame, for me! I have the AROCS set on order and I have been Googling (and lurking here) looking for inspiration. I'll post photos of my build, and the finished model, when it eventually arrives in the post. :) Ben
