  1. Very nice, looks very much like an old classic castle set
  2. Not enough room, had to compromise
  3. Thanks for all the great comments, was surprised it became so popular (it got featured on the brothers brick). I just came out of my dark ages last year and this is only my third MOC. I always found the AC aliens humorous and I had this idea brewing for a while. It's great that people appreciated it .
  4. I should rephrase that, the soldier is kinda ambiguous, returning home from some napoleanic era war. I don't really have a back story, you can interpret it however you like.
  5. I think I'm starting to like your interpretation better, lol
  6. I was trying to have her express that sudden shock of seeing someone you haven't seen in a long time. But yah it can definitely be interpreted as fear or unhappiness. Wish Lego would produce more facial expressions!
  7. A return home from some far off distant napoleon era war. Wanted to build something about coming home when I did this moc in January (after coming home), haven't posted it until now
  8. If it had more brown and more details in it, I could actually see this as a possible retail Lego set, I like it
  9. Did you notice what was on the nightstand? Thanks for all the comments
  10. A slight twist on the Alien Conquest theme, with a stray human coming over as an uninvited guest (goldilocks) flickr Link
  11. It's Lego, build your own animals! Just kidding, but was surprised no purists mentioned that. I like the new molds, and brick built animals look kinda weird next to minifigs, then again that's what imagination for right?
  12. It makes as much sense as Lego no longer wanting an excuse to print money. I think as long as these things rake it in, and they still seem to be doing so, we will keep getting them. And judging by how they renewed the star wars license for another 10 years, I think Lego likes to keep profitable themes going.
  13. Although I like the color scheme/appearance of the gun store and post office better, I think that as far as western themed building goes, the saloon is the centrepiece building and has the most potential playability and is the closest association to a western, thus making it the most potentially successful option. If this thing makes it to 10,000 I think they will only produce one building (the saloon) and that will be that. If it's super successful maybe just maybe they'll make more, but I don't count on it.
  14. I agree hard for them to come up with new characters that aren't obscure. If they do sell really well, they could possibly release new sets with the same characters or variation of in different settings. Bride of frankenstein, monster fighters base, werewolf in the city, mummy catacomb, haunted mansion with ghosts/dracula. Only thing I want is the castle for the castle pieces and that car. Crossing my fingers that zombies will be good.
  15. 4. Inn by Dix - 3 points 18. Luigi's Pizzeria by Yatkuu - 2 points
  16. The Dracula castle looks amazing and is a worthy castle to go alongside with the previous castle themes. There's no denying this is going to help ease the castle hiatus. Just nudge the steam-punk vehicles and characters aside and it's suddenly medieval. I think the Monster Fighters will do really well, last year I gave my 4 step-siblings (boy-girls age 4-9) collectible Lego mini-figures and I was surprised, almost shocked that they all wanted Dracula, frankenstein, the Mummy, Witch, Werewolf. I mean it wasn't even halloween and they just wanted the monsters, I didn't really understand it, but maybe it's because these monsters are so ingrained in fairy-tails and popular kid's culture, that they are just instantly familiar with them. I think the monster fighters theme will be a huge success, and I will definitely pick up Dracula's castle and hopefully if it's even half as good zombies!
  17. Star wars is now the Lego classic space theme Sad but true I have nothing against Star Wars (well except maybe the prequels) but the licensed sets bring in more money for the LG and take more resources away (designers, budget) from traditional Lego themes, so if you really want to see more traditional Lego themes, avoid buying licensed sets. I know it's too hard to resist, and it probably won't make a difference (unless you can influence a huge legion of kids), but money is what drives Lego. Personally I would love Blacktron III. I've put a moratorium on anything Star Wars (unless on clearance).
  18. Why would they stop something so profitable, it's unthinkable. If anything just limit it to 1-2 series a year or limit it to 8 minifigs per run instead of 16 if they are running out of ideas or if the trend is getting too tired. These minifigs should go on as long as Lego makes money, there's just no reason to stop.
  19. I think the thing that makes think most of forestmen coming back is the fact that city just came out with forest police and forest firemen which is something I have never seen before. So if it's some mythological greek/spartan theme or roman/egypt or forestmen vs black falcon or something new, I wont' be surprised. I have a feeling it won't be like kingdoms or fantasy castle or a generic castle theme.
  20. You might be right, but I still think there's a chance of it coming back and I think the new falcon in the joust set is a great updated version. Old VS. NEW The new falcon emblem is more aggressive looking and I think a much more authentic emblem than what we had in kindgoms (emblems were almost too detailed). It certainly has the cool factor. Of course if they re-hash the theme it might look entirely different. The dragon vs. lion has been done, time for some falcon vs. dear (or wolf). It's not like Lego hasn't brought back old themes back again with new twists (dino/dino attack, space police, pirates, atlantis/aqua zone/aqua raiders, pharoh's quest/adventurers) The fact that they even put a black falcon in joust means there are people at Lego actively thinking about them, and perhaps maybe beyond just making them as a nod to AFOLs. A rehash of an old theme may also play into a Parent's nostalgia when they are looking for something to buy and can't identify with the 'new' Lego.
  21. Ninja's driving motorcycles and helicopters not cutting it for you? lol I'd bet real money they wont' be doing Ninja/Asian stuff until long after Ninjago goes away A Greek/Roman/Spartan/Eygptian/Barbarian (something along those lines) type theme is something new Lego has never done before that I think might happen one day. The Spartan and Roman mining's might be a pre-cursor of things to come. Still when was the last time we had forest men? early 1990? Forest men vs. black falcon would be cool. But I'm sure Lego will do some market research and find out that kids want space knights or something silly. I think the thing I loved most about kingdoms was it had such an understated simplicity and very clean design. Nothing fancy or over the top. And I fear maybe that has something to do with why it didn't stay as long :(
  22. Romans vs Egyptians vs. Barbarians? Lego castle theme's always have more than one faction Your right, I forgot there are 2 hobbit movies. Damn it's going to be a long wait for the next castle theme. I hope it's only 2 years. Maybe the new castle theme will show up before Hobbit is over.
  23. So after the 1-2 years of LOTR/Hobbit sets, what do you think we will get next? I'm hoping for a forest men/robin hood motif, since LOTR and Kingdoms have already expended the fantasy/regular castle themes. Perhaps we'll see a return to vikings (not crazy about it) or something entirely new like Romans vs. Barbarians. Also do you think we'll get a pirates or western theme after POTC? I'm betting western.
  24. I think he means something you can put on a minifiig I for one would like to see a cooking sprue in metal (sorta like the friends one, but smaller scale for minifigs) with a whisk, spatula, tongs, knife, fork and spoon. We kinda already have them in friends, but I find them a bit too big and not in a proper colour. Maybe we'll get a french chef in a future collectible minifig with a new kitchen utensil. I think a realistic fork, knife and spoon could be on a separate sprue and I think it would be quite sought after for making moc's involving the kitchen or dining room or just food in general.
  25. A lot of the simpler sets that I buy I tend to do what I call a 'Puzzle build'. Essentially build without instructions and just what's on the box and see how close I can get, like putting together a puzzle, just to challenge myself and get more fun out of the build process. Some example of sets I've built without instructions: Alien Conquest tripod invader Space police Raid VPR Creator Rescue Robot Creator Log Cabin Kingdoms Prison Tower Rescue Does anyone else do this intentionally for the challenge?
