  1. Nicely done. I like the father's explanation. Your control of the peasants might be a bit more tenuous than you'd hoped. Really good brick-built stag's head (or cow's skull)!
  2. My guess is that it's a local fleet headquarters. They probably distribute the sailors' pay from there; that explains the guards. And the old sailor picks up his veteran's pay, buys a bottle of rum, and hangs out in the sun admiring the ladies who walk down the quayside.
  3. Nice scene. Brings back memories of my old smuggling days, running shipments of spice through the Wither Woods and up into Aginmoria, camping out in hidden thickets during the day and traveling at night. Some more foliage (flowers, bushes, leaves) might help give it that overgrown Avalonian look. Looks like your animals trampled everything in sight!
  4. Excellent steampunk MOC! Really like the general shape of the hull, as well as all the little details. Really nice job with the rivet-work, btw. Also was intrigued enough to get your novella; haven't read it yet, but looking forward to it. I'll then post a review (on Amazon US). Is there any way you can get your nine great Amazon UK reviews to show on Amazon.com?
  5. Well, that's a bummer. I liked grab bags. Never knew what you were going to get, and sometimes you really got some great stuff, including pieces you never knew existed. One time I bought two or three bags that must have had most of a Town Hall display set in them. Just last week we got a grab bag with about half an Orc Forge set in it, including some orc minifigs! Broken down display sets and returns were the best grab bags, but recently they seem to be mostly populated with leftovers from the PAB wall. Well, jeez, if I wanted stuff from the PAB wall, I'd have gotten a PAB cup. That said though, grab bags in general were great, and probably the cheapest you can get LEGO outside of a garage sale. Grab bags, RIP.
  6. Thanks for the tips! Maybe I'll search around EB and see if there are more tips on the best ways to use Flickr. I'll definitely create a group for old my old pics.
  7. (The following quote is from another thread, but my reply is better suited for this thread) A bit off topic, but since you brought it up, what do you all do when you hit the 200 free pics limit on Flickr (besides buying the Pro option)? Go to MOCpages or BrickShelf? Use Flickr only for the main images, and put everything else somewhere else? Once you're over 200 images, will links and deep-links to your early images still work? If you remove pics from Flickr, does that help? I'm at 173 on Flickr right now.
  8. Did someone say something? Who are you?
  9. Great! Highlights for me are: the color scheme, the siting of the building on top of the rocks, the interior details and furniture, and the nice lower level roof -- how it alternates between two different heights. That's a neat effect.
  10. Thanks for the tip! I'll try that out. Where did you find one for 30% off? That's a great deal!
  11. Sorry you all didn't get a GE. I looked this morning, and it's dropped to $111! That's probably what drove it out-of-stock. What a deal; wish I had waited a few hours, but you know, bird in the hand... Pet Shop is available for $111 still. Looks like all the other big Creator/Modular sets are sold out. Don't worry -- the after-Christmas sales are only a few months away.
  12. I just ordered a Grand Emporium (aka the Kaliphlin Parts Pack!) from Walmart.com for $121 plus $0.97 shipping! That's 2182 pieces of Kaliphlin-style love at 5.5 cents per piece! Those of you in the US might want to consider taking advantage of this sale if you can. Several of the other large sets are on sale too, like Kingdoms Joust is $100, and Tower Bridge, R2D2, Super Star Destroyer, Shuttle Expedition, Maersk Train, Death Star, and Volkswagen Van are all between 20% and 33% off. Amazon is matching many of the prices (although not Grand Emporium yet).
  13. Wow, between the roof and the interior floor, that's a huge amount of cheese slopes! There's a lot to like here, including the border. I think my favorite part is definitely the floor however. Good to see Halvard back in Kaliphlin; it's been a while.
  14. I assume you're trolling. If not, I'd say that GoH without CBB and Angeli will be a lot more sedate and dull.
  15. Perhaps this will be a future or past vignette, when relations were a bit different Hey, someone has to do the trash-talking now that Angeli got himself banned!
  16. Alright! Looking forward to creating a section of wall with a huge hole in it for Kaliphlin armies to storm through!
  17. Maybe you can get Hersbrucker to make an emergency return appearance! (We're at risk of turning this into the Nocturnus thread...)
  18. You have one of those rare LEGO-building girlfriends! Wow, excellent catch. Trying to get my wife more into it (mostly so she'll support the financial implications of LEGO...), and she'll definitely help the kids with builds, but not so much on her own (yet!). Is your girlfriend already on EB and GoH? Is she going to join a different guild and compete with you?
  19. I think those are the best palm trees I have ever seen in LEGO. The inverted tan bush is perfect for the dead leaves.
  20. Wow! Great backstory, history, geography, map, etc.! Really like the three different regions and peoples. The MOC is great. The jetpack gnome had me laughing. And I think you really nailed the Sataka part, the tree and music playing woman are spot on.
  21. You really nailed the Mediterranean color scheme and architecture. Nice job with the dock and the vines hanging down the wall. Looks like a nice place to live. Can we expect more Nea Chora builds in the future?
  22. Really nice job with this. I love the microscale castle. I'm just going to have to build a micro castle -- I've seen so many great ones here on GoH recently. And that fishing boat is great; I know how difficult it is to make small brick-built LEGO boats. I think the eastern coast of Kaliphlin is a great location for a few of these cities -- lots of mountainous cliffs along the fjords there.
  23. Well, I kinda stole the Year of the... idea from the Discworld books. You're right, I noticed it too last night as I was perusing the guild entries. Perhaps we're making up for the low number of women in the current guilds. Or maybe us guys like strong women! Thanks! I do plan on finishing the other two builds in the next week or so and adding them to this post. I might have plans to do a brick-built microscale of one of the smaller islands, zoomed in a bit more so you can see more details. :-) Thanks! When you're sitting at work on a boring conference call, you can't play with LEGO, but you can write! I meant to tie the Seahawk and the Navigator together, but didn't finish that part of the story. For now, just assume that the price Seahawk made them pay was so great they found someone else. Sorry about that; I was in a hurry to finish writing! Thanks
  24. Sweet guild o' mine -- the Kelasituan Guild. Everyone in Historica has heard stories of the Floating Islands of Terapulau, but few have ever seen them. The islands sail around the great seas of the world, moving to the patterns of fish and weather. Occasionally, one of the islands will loom off the shore of Historica, prompting a flurry of trade with their inhabitants, a guild of sailors and fishermen known as the Kelasituan, only to then drift away over the horizon. Didn't have time to finish all the builds I wanted to do for it, but at least I got something done. It's OK, I guess. But you should really check out Gabe's and Erynlasgalen's guilds. Great job, you all.
  25. Oh wow. Banned as in forever? Not just taking an extended break? That will certainly be a loss for GoH. I'm really going to miss his huge builds and all his trash-talking. His online personality was definitely larger-than-life. I realize that EB has to watch its back legally, and definitely wants to maintain a good relationship with TLG. It's too bad, as there certainly seem to be plenty of unscrupulous sites out there where he could have posted photos or information without any issues, so why do it on EB?
