Finally decided to snag a Chima set. The Ravens looked like a neat faction, and they happened to have the cheapest set. Now, it was definitely a neat set out of the box, but after some tinkering I think I like this version more. Let me know what you think! Ancestors to the Build-able Action Figure
MoralWarfare replied to pocketmego's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Stikfas and Xevoz were modular using a ball joint system to snap the major limbs together. Thats a good example of buildable action figures that used ball joints. And lets not forget the indie toyline Glyos. That smacks the crap out of Hero Factory. And its been around for much longer! There are many, many, buildable action figure lines if you aren't afraid to break off into the indie market. -
Thanks for the praise folks! Glad you like 'em.

I saw this on Flickr and was immediately enamored. Delightfully greebly. Almost Homeworld-y in its shape. The base is also pretty spiffy! I need me some of those bley crates.

It seems I've been bitten by the microspace bug. I've had a blast cooking up little fighters. Here's the latest bunch. "Manta" Assault Fighter by HatRabies, on Flickr This was quite obviously inspired by this build: http://www.flickr.co...six/8505197008/ (And by inspired I mean completely ripped off) The next three are original. At least to me! "Bloodhound" Interceptor by HatRabies, on Flickr "Lancer" Heavy Fighter by HatRabies, on Flickr "Talon" Heavy Fighter by HatRabies, on Flickr There are a bunch more views of each of them on my Photostream. Most of them feature retractable landing gear, and varied landing modes. I had a blast piecing these together, here's hoping for many more!

Thanks, Bob De Quatre! So someone pointed out to me that the color change of the quadruped was perhaps a bit harsh, so I made this small change. VX-97 Spider Ghost by HatRabies, on Flickr Thoughts? Better? Worse?

I've been supporting anything of yours I see pop up on Cuusoo. I really adore these Skyfi creations you've been making, and I'm quite ecstatic to see they fit a minifigure. The proportions of these are just right. A little chunky and wonderfully swooshable.

Sorry for my recent absence! I was waiting on a rather large PaB order that took its sweet time. I've had enough requests for breakdowns that I'll be putting some up this week. I'll make sure to post them here when its all said and done. So once my PaB order arrived, I went straight to building the rest of my company. Here's how the group stands right now. I need a bigger lightbox! The whole company. by HatRabies, on Flickr And today I figured I'd try my hand at a quadruped for the first time. Not entirely thrilled with it, but it could have turned out worse! VX-97 Spider Ghost by HatRabies, on Flickr VX-97 Spider Ghost by HatRabies, on Flickr

Do these fit a minifig? Regardless, they're brilliant. The presentation is all aces!

Thanks for the comments, all! I'll definitely be building some more once my PaB order arrives! It sure is taking its sweet time, I'm getting antsy to start building some more! rongYIREN, those two are my favorites as well! While I love the Super Chub, it was nice to build something completely my own, as opposed to basing it off others builds. My building skills might be a bit rusty, but MFZ is definitely dusting those off a bit. I appreciate all the comments!

So I've gotten into Mobile Frame Zero recently, and have had a blast getting some actual building done. I've only churned out a few frames so far, but once a rather large PaB order comes in, I'll be making some squads. First up, the Super Chub, an obvious riff on Soren's original Chub design. Super Chub (XKR-27 Artillery Cannon equipped) by HatRabies, on Flickr Emphasis with this build was on articulation, and it manages to articulate pretty well! Super Chub (articulated feet) by HatRabies, on Flickr As seen in the first picture, I've made a few different systems for this frame. Here are a few more. Super Chub Flight Equipment by HatRabies, on Flickr A rear shot of the flight equipment. I was pretty happy with how the thrusters came together. High Mobility Unit (rear) by HatRabies, on Flickr Super Chub Siege Equipment by HatRabies, on Flickr Next up is a much smaller, more nimble frame. The Sprinting Ghost. Sprinting Ghost & Pilot by HatRabies, on Flickr Shown above in a small vignette with its pilot standing in front of it. I was definitely channeling some Macross influences with this one. SRM-79 "Sprinting Ghost" by HatRabies, on Flickr And here is an optional melee variant of the same frame. Sprinting Ghost Slasher Equipment by HatRabies, on Flickr And finally, a frame build for a challenge presented. The requirements were to use no taps, pneumatic T's, or Travis bricks. Introducing the Nightingale. RTK-7 Nightingale by HatRabies, on Flickr I hope you guys enjoy these, I've certainly had a blast building them and cannot wait to build some more!

Monster Fighter Mods!
MoralWarfare replied to MoralWarfare's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I was indeed trying to make them a little more gun-like. I did try to keep the dark red cones, but they weren't fitting to my liking. Regarding the Moonstones, the Mummy set has it exactly where it is in my modification of it. The Moonstone with the Swamp Creature can still go where the Creature is standing, I just like him guarding it more! I'd really like to revisit the chariot build, as I don't really like it in black. But I guess its not awful, the dark coloring at least lends itself well to this creepy theme. -
I do believe this is the right place to put a topic like this. If not, my sincerest apologies! I recently bought a couple Monster Fighter sets while on the hunt for Transformers. While pretty thrilled with them overall, I thought they could still use a little tweaking. Particularly the Mummy set. The Swamp Creature I was pretty happy with right out of the box. The modifications are nothing fancy, but they work for me. I'm not too keen on how the chariot came out, but I'm away from the majority of my parts, so finding pieces to make a decent looking one became a struggle. Here they are! The Mummy The Swamp Creature Pictures aren't terrific, as usual

Toxic Reapa this time.

DrNightmare, that does look better with the yellow tinge edited out. I also happen to know nothing about photo editing! I'll have to pester you via PM for some more pointers TenorPenny, I'm glad you like some of the stuff! Those new 1x1 rounds are so useful, and make very convincing "caps" to the assorted barrels on both vignettes.
-
Glad you like! I try to stay pretty true to the original set, just added articulation throughout, and of course the back armor! Here are some better pictures, and the cuffs stored on the back.

I certainly don't have an amazing camera. I have my cellphone, hahaha! Nor do I have the money to spend on something as nice as a DSLR. I've manage to take great pictures of other toys (ThreeA stuff, mostly). But there is no glossy sheen to those sorts of toys, its the sheen that seems to be messing with my pictures. I'll have to keep tinkering around. Thanks for the help! EDIT: I tried out using a white background, and some white poster board on the sides to try to reflect the light a bit. Didn't come out too awful. At least I built something new to photograph.. Just some silly maintenance bay vignette I whipped together for the racer, and to photograph.
-
I'm glad you like the vig! I think I'm more fond of it than the racer itself, haha! Its a two lamp set up, one pointing horizontally from the left, and another pointing down from the top. I'm no photographer, so this is essentially trial and error for me. I'll definitely have to try bouncing around some light with some white poster board. Would adding a third light help at all? Thanks for the pointers, by the way!

Inspiration: Red Racer by Ironsniper, on Flickr I was sifting through pictures on Flickr, just checking out what people have created out of LEGO, and came across that little tablescrap that user Ironweasel had created. I fell in love with it almost immeditely, and figured I'd riff on the design to see if I liked it as much in hand as I did in pictures. I did. I obviously can't take credit for much beyond the simple vignette display base, but this was a fun little build to tinker with! It has made me realize that my piddly LEGO collection is comprised mostly of red and black. That'll need to be remedied in the near future.. (And as always, pardon the bad pictures. I haven't quite figured out how to photograph LEGO yet..)
-
You're right, it would! But I find that method pretty lazy, and thought this looked better. Ideally I'd have gone with a 2.0 Hero Shield, but that piece kept the torso annoyingly slender. The fact the new lower leg armor fits in with some of the others is purely coincidental, I must say. This is the only set from the new wave that I have! I'll likely try to find a better method for armoring the back, I don't think I could use the same old foot method though.

Your criticisms would find more merit with me had the original set been even remotely sleek. Which it was not. It was a rectangle on wheels. With the only things vaguely motorcycle like being the wheels and handlebars. I ditched the motorcycle notion quickly, and instead went for what you see above. I don't know what kind of motorcycles you have seen, because Kai's certainly didn't resemble one. I now enjoy the brutish look of the cycle, because it looks like it could actually do some damage. Instead of being the piddly little set that it was out of the box. But I find most of Lego's attempts out of box are, overall, disappointing. Glad you enjoyed the Turbo Shredder, though! I'll post a few exploded shots of the bike for you, Flipz.

With all these crazy sales Walmart and Target have been having on Lego, I figured I'd try to get back into the swing of system building. Which I haven't done in quite some time, but when I saw these two sets I just couldn't say no. So I went ahead and picked up a Turbo Shredder, and Kai's Cycle (Forgot the name, d'oh!). I think the Turbo Shredder was all of $12, and the Cycle Target sold to me for $7 because it was incorrectly placed in the clearance aisle. Score! The Turbo Shredder I quite liked right out of the box, the Cycle didn't fair so well. I thought it looked pretty atrocious out of the box. So I went to town modifying both sets. The Cycle much more so than the Shredder. Anyway, enough of my blabbering, and onto some (crappy) pictures. Basic overview shot, just to get a feel for some of the modifications.. This is one of the first things I added, because those wheels and treads needed some kind of covering. I dig the look now. Added horns to the skull face. Why? Because I like horns! Haha. This is the area beneath the Skull Chomper gimmick. It was really an ugly area to witness whenever the gimmick was in motion, so I added a few bits. And this is the modified cockpit. Nothing fancy, just fleshed out the interior. Now onto the Cycle, which I must admit I really love now Another generic overview shot. You can see how heavily modified this set has been. Gimmick still works! Although its completely manual now, and only the bladed wings will move. Didn't see a need for the other parts to. I don't know how I landed on this headlight configuration, but when I did I was quite pleased with the aggressive look it gave the Cycle. Hard to make out, but there is in fact a 1x2 clear red tile acting as a tail light just below little Kai there. Here is a side view of the bike with one of the blade wings pulled back to expose whats beneath. I've gone ahead and cleaned that whole area up as well. View of the cockpit/seat (whatever you'd like to call it!) The clear yellow 1x2 plate you see was placed there to act as some sort of HUD or dashboard display. At any rate, I had a good bit of fun taking my first few babysteps back into System building. Nothing too fancy, but enough to make me happy for the time being. Hope you guys like 'em!

I love it when old posts get bumped back to the first page.

I'm liking this build a lot. The slender/wiry frame it has going on really lends itself well to an alien like feel. Oh, and those little stubby feet are genius! I can't say much bad about it right now. When the folder is public, I'll have a little more to say about the giant turbine like things on its back.
