  1. Thanks for the conversation. I can see why the popularity of LEGO is low in South America. Their relative costs were rather high. A 1-hour cab from the airport to Olympic Park was 40 Real, a third of this set cost. It will be interesting to see if any news comes out of their sales. On close inspection of the box, I think it's a Visa licensing agreement. As for DFB, that release was barely wider than Team GB. Not being a fan, I'm not sure of the importance of the release date. You are right, there's a lot of sets out there right now. Could DFB have been next year? We know that there will be Olympics every 2 years or 4 if you just look at Summer. Wouldn't take a lot to schedule it in.
  2. I was happy to see a LEGO set for sale at the RIO Olympics but really disappointed with the opportunity LEGO missed with the choice. The mascots are something people forget after the Olympic have gone away. The sets were expensive at $40 which gave a piece cost of $0.20, but it seemed related to the price other LEGO sets sold for at the Rio airport. ($10 sets were sold for $25 U.S.) Disappointing still was that the pieces had stickers for the logo. I'm not the only one that I think was disappointed as the LEGO shelves seemed full. Still I purchased this set and is not sitting built on a shelf of Olympic memorabilia. In my opinion, LEGO, or who ever chose it, should have gone with a Team Brazil set like it did with Team GB for London Olympics. The Olympics promotes pin trading. With LEGO pushing for minifigure trading at LEGOlands and in their stores, these would have been a huge hit. Olympic minifigures could have built a whole new trading group that is supported by young and old. People would have bought more than one of these LEGO sets. Had Rio had minifigures, I'd be on eBay right now completing my Team GB set. LEGO, Please consider strongly bringing host country minifigures back with Tokyo 2020.
  3. Nice! I wanted to avoid cutting the piece but may have to do so. How did the Airjitzu Flyer stay attached to the launcher? What about remotely moving that away and letting the Flyer launch separate from the pad. Not the same as powered flight but could be a cool way to race them. Instead of lift, I'm thinking thrust. I'm tempted to try and build would be a working airboat. Remember the original Airjitzu was only strong enough to lift a single minifigure. So I wonder if it will push a small boat on water..
  4. Finally found a real minifigure head that could work for a Moomin. Sandy Cheeks from the Sponge Bob series with the head turned backwards makes a "good" Moomin head. So I finally could create a Lego Idea Based on it. I posted more on Eurobricks. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=138610&hl=
  5. Thanks for the correction. I didn't realize that paint moves away from "purist". That makes all those purist sets even more impressive. I was just happy to find a head that fit the Moomin style. It took me forever. Moomin is a little tall, especially if Moominmmama and Moominpappa were in the set. The short minifigure legs are just so limiting with no range of motion. I thought briefly of Little My as a baby but I liked being able to add Thingumy and Bob.
  6. Correction: Not Purist due to paint. While searching eBay I discovered a minifigure that would let me bring the Moomin world to LEGO in 100% parts. Her name was Sandy Cheeks from the Sponge Bob LEGO series. Previously, I created Moomin heads from pencil tops. (http://www.eurobrick...15087&hl=moomin). Here's my new Moomin Valley. (It's also on IDEAS.) Here's Moomin in the distance. Please ignore the terrible job at washable paint. I used Sandy Cheek's head on backwards, to hide her teeth. For Snufkin I used the Green Ninja top. Here is Snork Maiden. I used the same head just added a dash of yellow paint. I also used two LEGO baby minifigures for the second smallest characters, Thingumy and Bob. Bob is actually hoding the suitcase. The smallest characters are the Hattifattener, here as sausage. I would love to see these glow in the dark. Little My is trying to catch the Last Dragon in the World. Also note the large tree ... which hides Stinky. Sticking is made with a Brick Foot head on short brown legs.
  7. All these are available for pre-order for Sept 27 on Amazon: Adventure Time Level Pack Harry Potter Level Pack Mission Impossible Level Pack A-Team Team Pack
  8. An interesting spin on this. I saw rumors elsewhere that Ninjago would be fighting pirates. I'm holding a Lego (set 30421) Skybound plane. Cool looking pirate with a plane full of great parts; two swords, two pistols, anchor and ships wheel. I picked it up at Legoland Florida this morning.
  9. My kid has gotten into both LEGO and the Moomins, characters created by Tove Jansson. (This Moomin series is over 70 years old.) After finding Moomin pencil caps when visiting Moomin World I came up with a crazy idea. I created my own Moomin minifigures. Snufkin and Little My were created using standard minifigure parts. Moomintroll and Snork Maiden heads are cut from a pencil topper. The toppers were easily found in several tourist stores in Finland. Left to Right - Moomintroll, Snufkin, Snork Maiden, and Little My Snufkin Little My Moomintroll Closeup of the head. I cut off the head from the small body that came with the pencil topper. The hole for the pencil was the right size but needed to be drilled deeper. I used a Dremel tool for all of the cutting. I only bought two pencils so I was a little nervous about trying to clean up the edges. All in all. I'm happy with the results. I'm thinking of trying this again if I find other interesting pencil tops. These minifigure were developed for my family's enjoyment. The rights to these characters is owned by Moomin Characters Ltd. Maybe someday LEGO will look to license them.
