Decluttering Your LEGO Lair
LEGO Guy Bri replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in General LEGO Discussion
My Lego Lair, or "Room" if you will, hit critical mass in the latter part of 2010. 95% of the sets I bought either stayed MISB or the "used" ones were dismantled (if necessary), washed/restored, reassembled, and stuck in a storage bin destined for the attic. Occasionally, I would retire some displayed vehicles for newer (old) ones but, thats about it. I just had no more room. Fast forward to a month ago, I decided to finally pack up my city. Twas a sad day. I did not like the idea of my collection stored in the attic, as well as, me needing to move other stuff up there. That and I needed a portion of the closet for another project. I do plan to eventually move into a house where I can use an entire room. My available room has a right triangle walls that at there height reach 5ft. Being 6'3" it was getting old. So I spent two full days packing up 95% of my sets and brought down all the storage bins and unopened sets from the attic. Thank God it was a cool day! Now the room is full to the ceiling with boxes and bins but, ready to move at a moments notice with relative ease. Further more, I have no plans to stop buying Lego I keep my boxes unflattened in a corner of my attic. If you don''t have an attic and don't want to cut a hole in your ceiling (I did, completely worth it), I would suggest flattening them if you plan to keep them -
Great little station here 'LT12V', I really like it. The Santa Clause was a nice touch. I have to agree with others regarding TLG previous installments. Very well done

Terrific work 'LT12V'. Excellent job on both engines! I especially like the 4-6-2 and great job on the lighting, they look great

Great review 'R8', good insight on this great product. I plan to add these to my future layout. These seem to work flawlessly with 9V system.

@peterab: That track is used for high voltage (~20V) running of 9V motors, so are we sure the Maersk used in the video even has PF? If not it's not really relevant to the question. I know, I was using that as a comparison that, whether it was 9V or PF, they both have very similar load stats. So which ever it is, it could be used as reference for one pulling engine with a large load:classic:

Take a gander at this video. Notice the trailing engine and the last car's bogie derailing. They stopped the 25 car train and restarted with only one engine and reached a pretty good speed. Pretty impressive train and track!

Watching a new episode of TLC's (The Life Channel) series Sand Master's. It features Legoland California's opening of Starwars miniland with a neat sand sculpture dedicated to our favorite pieces of plastic -

Came back from my family reunion on Eagle Cove, Dale Hollow Lake, TN to find that the bids I left on eBay won me 3 MISB 7638 Tow Trucks for $10 each +$6 shipping, another 7936 for a grand total of $19.99, and a lot of 1980's race ways including 6395, 6381, 6503, and 1497 for $59.99 + $8 shipping. Really excited to finally get the Victory Lap Speedway

I wouldn't say I'm neglecting my hobby with Lego over another but, just recently I packed 95% of my Lego room because I needed to repurpose the room, as well as, bringing all the unopened set down from the attic. I am still collecting city and train sets but, they go straight into storage containers or left in their sealed boxes. They will come back out once I move into a bigger house. It was just time to get them ready or I never would have gotten around to it. I've noticed that since then, I haven't frequented EB or eBay as much.
