LEGO Star Wars 2019 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Kdapt-Preacher replied to Stash2Sixx's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Word from LEGO regarding the Resistance Bomber: "When we develop LEGO sets based on movies, we aspire to make minifigures and models that reflect the iconic characters and scenes in the film. For this reason our products are most often developed by LEGO designers using reference material from the specific movies --still images, sketches, as well as the actual movies as inspiration. We developed the LEGO Star Wars Resistance Bomber set (75188), based on "The Last Jedi" movie and discovered after the film was released that one of the LEGO minifigures in the set doesn't reflect the movie scene properly. As a result we decided to adjust the set accordingly, true to our motto: "Only the best is good enough". We hope Star Wars fans across the world appreciate this attention to details." -

The helmets in the AT-AP are a different mold entirely that's never been used for an Imperial scout trooper. The original clone scout from 2005 used the same helmet as the original Imperial biker scouts, but the clones got a more accurate helmet in 2014 or so; this is the first time an Imperial scout trooper has appeared since then. -

Where are you? Somewhere in Europe, I assume, because all the ToysRUs in the US are closed. I haven't seen any around here; everywhere near Atlanta's out of them. -

Pages 56 and 57 of this thread are the original source for that. Nobody knows anything. The set's still available from S@H in the US, but it's already out of stock at every LEGO store near me. It's effectively retired. I ordered one online today to see if I'd get the new figure; I'll report back. -

The question is whether the Lando has the new cape from Betrayal at Cloud City, a cape with the old lack of printing but the new spongy material, or if it's identical to the old one. I don't think LEGO is using the old papery cape material at all anymore, so it might not be quite the same piece, and the original costs a lot of money now. -

If it's the same cape as in the 2003 Cloud City, that'll still bring the price of the original figure down by about $80... -

I guess the precedent for the Resistance Bomber is 7261 Clone Turbo Tank. It was released in 2005 with a light-up Mace Windu, and then rereleased (under the same set number) in 2006 with a regular Windu, an extra clone, and a slightly modified build. Does anybody know whether it was partially retired in late 2005/early 2006, like the Bomber is in Europe now? Or whether that was announced in any way? It could be that, as somebody suggested above, the Bomber will become widely available again with the new figure. 7261 was the first Star Wars set I ever got, so it's technically not before my time, but I wasn't paying any attention to these kinds of details at that point... -

That it is. I think Amazon's your best bet. I don't know whether you'd be guaranteed to get the new one if you order from that link (and I certainly don't know that you'd be guaranteed to get the old one if you order from the other link), but they're at least drawing the distinction between the versions, which nobody else seems to be. -

Ah, sorry. Couldn't see the second picture. On Amazon.com in the US, there are two listings for the Bomber from LEGO: this one, called "LEGO Star Wars Episode VIII: Resistance Bomber Costruzioni" has the new figure in the pictures of the set (but still not on the box pictures) and costs $118, while this one, called "LEGO Star Wars Episode VIII Resistance Bomber 75188 Building Kit (780 Piece)" has the old figure in all pictures and costs $109. EDIT: Amazon lists the new version of the set with model number 75188, and the old version with model number 6175763. The new one has zero reviews or questions, so it can't have been up all that long. -

Can you post a link to pictures of the new one on Amazon? The pictures that I see still have the yellow helmet print. The figure with the blue stripe in the picture you posted here is Resistance Gunner Paige, who's still in the new set. The Finch Dallow figure replaces the Resistance Bomber Pilot, which has a light flesh head and yellow diagonal helmet stripes, with a Resistance Bomber Pilot with a brown head and a helmet with blue diagonal stripes on the left side and a red Resistance crest on the right. I haven't seen any store yet with updated images. -

And most of the people who really care about such things got the set shortly after it came out. Weird, weird situation. I wonder whether the figure won't show up somewhere else, as a microfighter or polybag, later. It doesn't make any sense for them to print new helmets and everything just for the last couple of Bombers to be made. Are they even still manufacturing them? If the set is discontinued in Europe already, are they just selling leftover stock in the US? -

There's a huge difference between swapping the production variant of a minifig, which 99% of people will never notice, and including an entirely different figure of a different character. Without any evidence in front of us that that's what's happening, we should treat anything about the Finch figure as pure speculation. Nobody has said that it is in the Bomber set; BacktoBricks is just asking if it might be, and the answer is that it isn't likely. We should avoid phrasing these posts to imply that it is, since that's likely to give others the wrong impression, which will then be treated as fact on other sites. -

Actually, you're more right than you realize--as well as the pupil changes on a couple of the figures, they switched the Death Star Trooper from one with a black helmet to a light bluish grey helmet, which is a much more immediately noticeable change. I don't know whether that was ever reflected on S@H or if it got new box pictures. EDIT: It was not updated. The page for the set is still visible on S@H, and it still shows the original versions of the figures. I still think it's improbable that the Finch Dallow figure is in new Resistance Bomber sets, but apparently it not showing up on S@H is not in itself evidence that it is not. -

No, this definitely isn't the case. The figures shown on S@H are the same ones that have always been in the set. LEGO has changed the builds of sets mid-production occasionally (6211, 75101) without publicizing it much, but they've never changed the figures or anything that would be immediately noticeable. -

Commander Pyre from Resistance carries a gold F-11D. I don't think we've seen anybody with a pink blaster yet, but Torra would be a good bet. Those blasters have been used as structural pieces occasionally, too, such as the silver pistol in Defense of Crait, so we don't necessarily have to picture somebody running around with a pink rifle; they could be part of something. -

If it's a 501st one, it wouldn't make sense to say that it's a remake of 7250 instead of 75002. -

I'm not sure this is fair. The droid gunship is in the middle of the pack, and at 8.7 cents/piece the AT-AP is one of the cheapest sets of the last couple of years. Its deficiencies as a set are not due to pricing. -

I wonder how much of an impact the rereleases actually have on the price of older sets. Certainly literal rereleases of the exact same set would be expected to lower the resale prices, but my guess would be that most of the people buying sets on the secondary market want that exact set, not just any AT-AP, and that for most sets the new releases don't change the demand that much (although in some cases, like the UCS Falcon, they might). Bricklink says that a new copy of the previous AT-AP sold for $69 on average in July, before anybody knew that a new one was coming out, and that price had increased to $75 in December (although there's enough fluctuation that that increase probably isn't significant). It's too early to say whether the new one will substantially decrease the price of the old--something to watch over the next few months. I'll get the AT-AP because I'm a sucker for the GAR vehicles, but since I already have both the previous ones I really wish they'd done something different with it. I don't have any problem with them rereleasing vehicles except when they package them in such similar ways. All four AT-TEs are substantially different sets--the original 2002 one has a speeder and four clones, the TCW version has Anakin, Ahsoka, Rex, and a STAP, the 2015 (?) one has Coleman Trebor, who was a great new figure... the problem with the AT-AP isn't just that it's the same vehicle, it's that it's effectively the same entire set. The gunship and AT-AP in 2014 came with Gree, Tarfful, Chewbacca, a clone scout, an SBD, and 3 B1s. This year's gunship and AT-AP come with Gree, Tarfful, Chewbacca, a clone scout, Yoda, and 4 B1s, and they aren't even new versions of the figures. The AAT driver droids are the only new things in the group. The average kid who gets this set would be exactly as happy with a Felucia or Saleucami-themed set, and the people who care about it would be much happier to get some figures that have either never been made at all or have been languishing for twelve years and look terrible rather than ones that are already widely available. -

BacktoBricks is right. Specifically, for the years 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2018 (for which the data is available on Brickipedia), the average January/December set had 240 pieces, while the average non-January set had 670. The sets in this year's January wave are smaller than average (202 pieces/set), but not shockingly so. I don't know what's going on with LEGOLAND, but AFAIK Star Wars remains LEGO's most profitable theme by a substantial margin; I don't think it's at all likely that anything will keep them from releasing large sets, especially given the success of giant ones like the UCS Falcon. -
[Review] 75226 Inferno Squad Battle Pack
Kdapt-Preacher replied to Gubi0222's topic in LEGO Star Wars
No, she does not, and I have a hard time interpreting that as anything other than a deliberate insult on LEGO's part. There's absolutely no excuse for it. I don't know why they bothered giving Meeko and Hask custom faces if they weren't going to include hair, either, since they aren't much good bald. Dio was included in the preliminary images but was apparently cut from the final set near the last minute. The whole thing seems like they came really close to making a great set but cheaped out--it could so easily have been so much better.- 8 replies

An AT-AT is definitely coming eventually; that's the only major Original Trilogy vehicle that hasn't been a UCS set yet. They've been on a kick of UCS remakes for the last couple of years, but I'd be pretty surprised if the next two new vehicles made aren't an AT-AT and an A-wing. But there's no indication that an AT-AT is coming this year, or any time before they've remade every single previous UCS set first, and a Venator would be such a radical departure from their previous collection of UCS sets that I wouldn't credit it until I see it with my own eyes. Neither are likely any time soon.
