  1. I don't think I was clear in my complaint. It isn't that I'm against colour-coding perse, because it's really necessary of course. What I dislike is that there now seems to be a "uniform" colour-coding for A and B beams; aka the grey and the black beams. I don't mind it if there's a colour-coding inside the sets themselves. It's obvious that the beam in Onua would have been confusing if it had been in trans-purple. But why use grey, if black complements the colour-scheme a lot more ? The trans-purple bones were already there to help highlight the trans- purple/gold/black colour combo; I feel like it would have looked a lot better if they had used black ones. Same for Tahu for instance, we have trans-red, black and grey beams. I don't think it was necessary to have the long thigh-beams be grey in this case. I guess it's purely aesthetic and my own opinion of course; but sometimes I feel that the grey bones break up a good working colour-scheme. (Not to say that the grey beams can't work, they work well in Pohatu this year ). -Iben
  2. All of this quite reminds me of the "Flat vs realism"-design discussion in Mobile development. Some find beauty in simplicity, but not in complexity. Others find beauty in complexity and not in simplicity. And then others like both in different contexts. From my standpoint as an app/web developer I don't think that "keeping things simple" is such a core concept of design, I consider it to be the building block of certain styles within design. Saying that complexity for the sake of complexity is inherent bad design is most certainly true in specific styles of design, but it isn't necessarily true for design in general. There can be beauty in complexity, with Art Deco being a prime example of this. Of course, this is my opinion and I've been influenced by my education in many ways; but I've never really cared for choosing one specific style in the world of design. Certain contexts, tastes or moods simply call for other forms of styles. I don't consider there to be one style that wins over the other and that pretty much wraps up my opinion on the difference between the 2015-2016 sets and the "old and new system". I can find beauty and faults in both styles; and I don't really consider one to be inherently better than the other. -Iben
  3. I still think this is taking it a bridge to far for my personal taste. I honestly cannot imagine that there would be such a multitude of accidents between using the wrong bones on the wrong limbs. I'm not saying that it wouldn't happen at all; I'm saying that "a lot of issues" feels a bit exaggerated. The shapes of the bones are certainly familiar; but the instruction booklets should just be clear enough to prevent confusion. You can't avoid all mistakes of course. Both in CCBS and the older system, we have bones/ connectors that are quite visible. They are unmistakeably a big part of the colour-scheme of the set. In the "old system" the connector parts were an essential part of the colour-scheme and more often than not they really did complement the design. In the case of CCBS, the bones are just as visible and once you disrupt the colour flow of the bones by alternating between colours for different kind of bones, then you're messing up the whole colour-scheme. I'm not saying that it can't work because in some cases it certainly does; but in a majority of the sets I feel it looks a lot better when all bones have the same colour. Tahu 2016 for instance uses 3 different bone colours, and it's really bugging me. I can see the reason behind the colour coding in smaller pieces like the small Technic axles and pins; but when it comes to larger pieces like CCBS bones, I think the colour-inconsistency is just to prominent. It's my personal opinion though, I can get that it doesn't bother other people; but for me it does. -Iben
  4. Does anyone have an idea what kind of brown was used on Rey left-arm and foot-pieces ? Earth-orange like the original Pohatu or Dark Brown ? -Iben
  5. Am I the only one who's wondering how Uxars wings stay in place ? Aren't those System-wings going to be floppy if they're just connected through pins ? :P I can see how they prevented it with Ikir; but I don't see how they keep the wings straight on Uxar... -Iben
  6. In the latest crisp HD pictures Pohatu has a black hip-piece; but that might be the lightning in his picture though. -Iben
  7. Am I the only one who noticed that the creature boxes still show full golden masks instead of blended ones ? :P -Iben
  8. I totally agree. And you know what bothers me even more ? The "creature head as a hat" function will look quite weird in Pohatu/Gali/Lewa when you combine a gold mask with a silver head. In terms of colours, I feel like Lego just went completely beserk and made all kinds of clashing stuff; the crystal stuff being an excellent example of this.µ It's one of the two things I consider to be better in the 2015 wave. The colours felt a lot more natural and just overall well thought out than this years sets; and at least we got a bunch of unique weapons instead of the same swords over and over and over again. Needless to say, I'm not a big fan of those swords ._. -Iben
  9. I'm worried about something, looking at the picture we got to see. Is it just me, or are the eyes molded shut ? This would be a real shame, without proper eyes these creature heads look really weird to me... -Iben
  10. I certainly have to agree. If you'd consider Terak to be a kind of terrestrial bat, then the mask for him is an ideal fit, but I completely agree that this doesn't work with the other creatures. I stand by my earlier made point, I think that 3 different heads would have been better option. An insect like face for the stone/jungle; a kind of bear/mole face for earth/ice and a kind of uniform face for water/fire. I believe that could have worked much better, and would have allowed for a bigger diversity. -Iben
  11. Yeah, but armour can come in other colours too :P ( I know the first one is leather, but you get my point.) Having a lot of gold and silver armour isn't inherently a bad thing; but because these characters are in essence defined and separated by their colours, I honestly have to agree with others when they say that these colours should be the most prominent ones. -Iben
  12. Am I one of the only people who thinks the brown on Pohatu looks way too dark to be Dark-Tan ? -Iben
  13. I found this picture on Facebook, and if you look closely, Galis propeller isn't the typical piece. It looks a lot more like a combination of the light gray 3 axle connector and the standard double side connectors. -Iben
  14. That was G1. From what we've seen so far, we won't be getting the type of 100% confirmed canon we had before with Greg confirming every little doubt. And I'm fine with that. It's most logical to assume that his set form is cannon but he simply didn't use his shield in the fight. Pretty much all there is to it really, there's no need to read more in it than there is. -Iben
  15. Isn't it logical to assume that except it's explicitly stated otherwise, that the sets are always cannon ? Really, isn't it time we just go by logic in terms of cannon instead of doubting every single instance that isn't presented to us on a plate ? Ekimu has a shield, he has it in the set. He didn't use it in the animation, but it wasn't stated that he didn't have one somewhere in the forge. Ergo, Ekimu's shield is cannon. It's really that easy tbh... -Iben
  16. You know, I'm more annoyed by people who constantly comment on people who don't like stuff than people who say they don't like certain sets. You can't expect every single person to like every set. I don't understand why people make such a big deal of it really. I didn't like Skull Scorpio when he got leaked, I didn't like him when we got the official set pictures and I still don't like him after my brother getting it. That really shouldn't be such a big deal as people make of it. Of course it gets annoying when there's a specific member who constantly repeats (s)he that they're ugly, but on the other hand I wouldn't like it if the only comments that were allowed were the positive ones. Anyway, I personally look forward to the other beasts we'll be getting. A small piece of me hopes that we'll get darker colours for the other beasts, to get a nice division between them. It would be cool to have dark-blue, dark-red and other dark colours in sets, whether those already exist in shell-form or not. -Iben
  17. If you're talking about the rock Pohatu is on, that isn't Okoto writing, that's actually Matoran ! If you look closely, you'll recognize the letters ( although they're in squares this time). The text says " E was here". Now I wonder what that means... EDIT : Nvm, people already saw it xD -Iben
  18. I don't think the Vorox Armor on Ketar is Dark Tan. It's too dark to be said colour, I think it's the same brown as Pohatu's torso/upperlegs. The reason why it looks lighter than on Pohatu's picture is because of the bright sun behind Uxar. ;) -Iben
  19. I believe it's twofold really. The design of Terak is pretty much what you'd expect of an Earth-creature. Big paws, big claws. It kinda looks like a mix between a mole and a terrestrial bat ( the head gives that impression at least ). He seems suited for the environment he's in. Melum on the other hand, isn't. Melum looks exactly like Terak, but none of his design choices remotely resemble that of an ice-living creature. Some said a bear, but I don't see it. I believe that's one of the main reasons why they call Melum the clone. Second, I think it's also because Melum is in a comboset with Kopaka. In a way, it's reasonable to assume that this allows for a slightly bigger budget than the regular Creature. I guess that most people ( including myself) hence expected much more from Melum than what he currently is, aka an almost exact clone of Terak ( or vice versa ). I think most people expected something more from Melum, so he would have been something that would justify him being in a combo-set. At this point, there's nothing special about the Kopaka/Melum set, which is kinda a disappointed in my eyes. -Iben
  20. Pohatu most certainly has friction extenders on his feet. You can easily see it, as there's a darker part above his silver feet, which wouldn't have been there if there wasn't a friction extender there. Overall, one of my biggest complaints is actually about the weapons. I didn't mind that the 2015 Toa re-used the same weapon pieces, as they were varied enough to work with. Gali and Lewa are an excellent example of this. However, this time, the sword piece is really over-used. The only Toa not to have that sword is Onua, and even 3 of the creatures use it. If they were trying to save costs by using the same weapon pieces over and over again ( I don't really care that they are in different colours, I honestly don't like the swords that much ), then I would have preferred it if they had used different head-pieces for each animal. Yes, I know, giving them all the same heads is a cost-saving method, but while it worked for the Protectors, I don't really think it works for the creatures. The half-bat vibe Terak has works perfectly with his headpiece, and I can live with it on Ikir. However, I would have liked it if they gave Ketar and Uxar an insect/scorpion like headpiece kinda styled like Savage Planet's scorpion. Melum and Akida could have used the same head-piece too, with enough connection points you can transform certain looks. Although I'm not always equally impressed with the sets so far, I must say that there are a BUNCH of parts that I really want. More different transparent purple bones and shells, more short bone/joint pieces in transparent colours, all of these are things we really needed. I really hope we'll get more different coloured bones in the future, they are an essential part of the colour-schemes and Lego should really use that more often. -Iben
  21. Look here. The yellow arrows point to Glatorian necks ( granted, in Kopaka you can see it better on the other arm, but this shows the connection point for the Skrall armour as well, green arrow ). My guess is that Ketar and Pohatu have them in a new colour, either Dark Orange or Reddish Brown (Avak). I hope this makes it easier. ;) -Iben
  22. Actually, if you look closely, Kopaka and Pohatu have those as well. It seems as if all the new Toa have it. I guess it's also used as a way to connect the Skrall Armor. -Iben
  23. Actually, if you look closely, Kopaka isn't the only one to use that weird construction for the upper arm attachment. Pohatu has it ( with Glatorian neck pieces in a brand new colour ?? ), Onua has it, and I guess the others have it too as it seems it's meant to make the Skrall armour fit on the shoulders ! -Iben
  24. Guys, I'm not sure if people noticed it, but if you look at the squares on the chest armour... You'll quickly notice that they have the Nuva symbols on their chests ._. -Iben
  25. I quite enjoy how both Pohatu and Lewa use those Vorox Armour pieces as shoulder/neck armour, it's quite effective and it just looks stunning. Those beartrap creatures got me sold, no matter what the actual Creatures will look like, I need them all. ._. -Iben
