Just finished building my 7965 Millennium Falcon™ that I bought Monday. What a nice build and the model is larger then I expected.

Here is my solution for RC track (without using the 7996 set) I want my double track close together and have the minimum of 4 studs apart (station platforms are 2 studs away from the track, times 2 equals 4 studs) Emerald night and Maersk train pass each other perfectly on straight and curves. Maybe this will spark some ideas. Wish I was out of the dark age when set 7996 was on 50% off at S@H :(

Yup it is indeed the official LEGO PF led light, set 8870 (the secondary led I have hidden in the cab inside a trans-blue cylinder for ambient effect. Had installed it on the back at first but there was to much light bleeding trough the cracks)

My light solution, I cheated. I drilled a hole in a black 2x3 plate and stuck a shortened technic pin with stud in a 1x2 technic brick with hole. Here are the pics.

Removing the rubber bands from the wheels that are not attached to a motor works away some friction on curved track. I only have rubber bands/rings on the 4 wheels that are attached to the train motor (on all my trains). Removing the rubber bands/rings is done easily with a toothpick, slide it between the flange and the rubber and then gently push it in the direction the wheels normally rotate.

My harbour 6542 and the new lighthouse with some custom transfer for boat to train to road will definitely get a place in my layout when it's finally getting build. For now I'm restricted to a day of trying out new things on the floor and packing it all up again.

This is going to be huge. Btw where did you order your double crossings from?

I've to see my first train to have problems with flex track, they all pass smoothly. I do have my flex track braced so it won't move out of the position I want it in when a train passes.

That's a good review, thanks. Don't think the marking/scratching of the sleepers is a problem, with the official track they stay on the track as well. Can't wait to see the new curves.

It looks really nice. I like the roof, the fire/emergency case on the side, the small signals along the track and the neat little parcels on the platform. Nice job.

Advice needed: Powering 4708 Hogwarts Express
Pet-Lego replied to Dazmundo's topic in LEGO Train Tech
That battery box holds 3 C type batteries right? 3 AA type batteries should be up for the same job (especially the 2200mAh variety), well even 3 AAA type batteries at 900mAh should work. I'm thinking about making a battery box for my old 4.5V motors that holds 4 AAA batteries. (rechargeable so it would come to 4.8V, just slightly more then 4.5V and should be fine) Placing that in a brick build box with a switch to turn it on or off and I've got a space saving 4.5V-ish battery box. -
Big train setup ready to unbox - how to config it?
Pet-Lego replied to xangodango's topic in LEGO Train Tech
For inclines this is a handy page to check out. For the new trains a height of 14 bricks is a good way to go. -
Do post, more options and more people tackling the problem will end up in a great solution.

3 holes for axles on the new 88002 motor?
Pet-Lego replied to OctanTrucker's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Indeed, it doesn't unless you make them yourself. -
3 holes for axles on the new 88002 motor?
Pet-Lego replied to OctanTrucker's topic in LEGO Train Tech
The holes don't go all the way trough, but you can put a stud in there or a short technic pin. If you place another train wheel there they will rub against each other, there's no tolerance. Some small blind train wheels would fit and they wouldn't give problems with bends either. -
And here's my entry. Anyone remember the movie "Trading Places"?

Loco from 7939. Is it modelled after a real engine?
Pet-Lego replied to henryhotspurs's topic in LEGO Train Tech
It looks a bit like the traxx familie of loco's as well. -

Very nice model, great work. The stereoscopic image is an excellent addition to view lego models. Wouldn't mind to see more stereoscopic images of lego models. (I'm quite used to the cross eye stereoscopic image views, no problems at all)

AAA Battery Box (88000) vs. Rechargeable Battery Box (8878)
Pet-Lego replied to legotrainfan's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I wonder what the life expectancy is on the 8878 LiPo, will it still function after 30 years? The AAA battery box 88000 has batteries you can change and I don't see the AAA size disappear (hopefully improvements in quality though) I'm sticking with the AAA box and my AAA rechargeable batteries (less pricey for me and hopefully better suited in the long run 10+ years) -
Getting started in LEGO Trains - What to buy?
Pet-Lego replied to MrTools's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Welcome, To start with the Emerald Night is an excellent set for the adult starting with lego trains, it comes without track or power functions to keep the price down and builders happy. The Emerald Night uses an XL PF motor for power instead of the bogey train motor the standard sets use. Buying the PF parts separately would cost around 45-60 Euro (motor, receiver, batterybox and transmitter). Then you'd net some track as well. I started out last year with a super pack (train set with a box of extra track, extra switches and a station) cost effective a pack like that. I'd advise to buy #7938 that way you'll get some track some PF parts (about half the value of the entire set) Build it and see how you like the LEGO train experience, after that get the Emerald Night #10194 with PF sets #8882 XL-Motor and #8870 Lights Then build the Emerald Night and use the receiver, transmitter and battery-box from #7938 along with XL-Motor and the Lights to power your Emerald Night. If you are already sure you really want to go for it, set #7939 will be a choice with more options (switches and straights) to start of with instead of set #7938.- 191 replies
