  1. heh ahhh okay when I read modular I think like a entire wall is a single large piece, so really only good for walls or such. Heh thanks, just wanted to check don't want to buy one of these sets and find that I have a hard time using them anything but for that set.
  2. I'm interested in making cityscapes and such but noticed that alot of the newer lego city sets have modular warnings on them. Just how modular are they and are they easy to use to make into other buildings, or are they too specialized for their sets to be much use outside? I've always been a bit leery around sets that used too many big pieces that you have to build around rather then more universal pieces.
  3. I live just north of there in Powell River, but go 2-4 times a year, and planning ahead might make a trip down there for lego in a few months not too bad, anyone in the area know any resale stores, or donation stores or such that might have lego? Or even any actual lego stores? I know Toys R Us has a good selection been going there for games and stuff and even before I got back into lego had fun perusing the aisles for lego to see what new sets there were.
  4. Someone mentioned one for building, but that seemed to be more for sets, so what do you guys do for when your MOC'ing, wether you got a plan in advance, or your just saying to yourself, "Lets build a castle." and just let it form as you go. How do you sort what pieces you want, do you only take those you think will be relevant, or take all of the pieces that you think will be useful. I don't have a big enough collection to sort yet, so just probably like before plunk them all down and find what I need as I need it, and probably technocolour the creations too when run out of the right pieces.
  5. heh oh I know :> Would help for me if my tastes were not so varried right now, everything from space to city to castle and even western ;> Makes building a collection not easy.
  6. Saw them at walmart in Canada, so if we have stuff usually US has them...though not sure about Lego since non american company so might distribute differently.
  7. heh looking at the collection orgnization topics and such make me unsure wether to be jelouse or concerned...I'm leaning more towards Jelouse :> My entire collection to date takes up 5 safeway bags, a box with my large baseplates, and 10% of a totebox which has all of my bricks/beams/arches/slopes and such, the bags have my ship stuff, car stuff, specialized stuff, thinking of sorting another bag/container *when I can get them* for hinges and such. BUt in general...:> I don't have enough to even organize by colour, unless I want a bag with 3 of some of the rarer colours heh. Anyone else feel like this a bit when they get out of their dark ages, a bit daunted and like...it's a long ways to go to get anywhere near as good. Bought some stuff on ebay and bricklink so hopefully when they arrive I will be a bit more set, plan to start building, though I'm still going to be stuck with technocolour builds as not enough to make anything really unique that is all one colour, or all a colour scheme.
  8. Only just got back into it all, but with the apple tree house I put each bag into a pile, *though ended up leaving the slopes in their bags since there was alot of pieces and bags and ran out of places to put piles* I'm going to be getting containers or such to put them in. Thats what my 5 year old nephew did when we made the anakin speeder thingie, he got two containers, and dumped each bag into one being careful to keep them seperate. Sure helped, heh though not as much fun as when I was his age and just dumped them all on the table and did the old hunt and connect method.
  9. I've been doing garage sale circuit for about three weeks now, four tomorrow. WHat I've been finding is, alot of people have lego...just most are keeping them :> I always ask but usually get, "Were keeping it for the grandkids, or they are so expensive we want to keep them." heh. Did get one, "Well we have them, but in boxes, but if I sell them I will call you." and took my number. Best I've gotten so far was from a donation store a 2 dollar blacktron pod that sells on bricklink/ebay for about 8 so a little deal heh.
  10. This is one of the things growing up I wanted to build and was facinated with, not just the stylish sleak modern ones, but the bulky ships of the old style circa 80's, I remember when I was like 8 going to "The Bay" and seeing in their store window this massive ship, must have been built from like 20-30 different sets or more, and just dreaming of making a big ship like that.
  11. yeah, I like many different things, cities are probably the easiest since as long as I don't mind some technocolour cities the pieces are the easiest to get. Beyond that space will probably be the hardest, but always found it the most interesting with the weirdness in shapes and exotic pieces you can make. Western probably the most expensive for particular set items, like the tepee's and other such things but could still be possible. Castle I think would get a bit tougher. But I have a few ideas, I'm thinking for now just building a lego base, and worrying about removing technocolour creations as I go. For now looking for more learning to create interesting sets and such and then once I have base, start looking for specific colour pieces. Question what does MOC/LPC and other such abreviations mean.
  12. I've had this weird idea of trying to recreate some areas from wow, of course this is something a while down the road as I'm lacking pieces, but has there been a minotaur, custom or set yet?
  13. I'm a bit of a broad. I like city stuff and wouldn't mind building a city at some point, but also a big fan of space, and castle stuff, also been looking into the out of production cowboys and indians sets, as I have a few interesting ideas for using them.
  14. Looking on Ebay I saw a couple of old school lego products rebuilt by collecting random parts and then putting them together to make the original product, so been contemplating making a sorta techno/ghetto *not sure what to call them* collection, build every set in history only buying the specific ones when they are unique to that set, not worrying so much about the colour as long as it's the right piece. And just seeing if I can make and photograph every single lego set, figured would give me new ideas and teach me some of the more subtlies of building lego, such as things I tend to never think about like good use of flat pieces and such.
  15. Heh I got the apple tree house as it had quiet a few that I was missing, thinking of getting medevil villedge set.
  16. Blind post here, but I've always liked minifigs back when I joined, one thing I almost remember though may just be old memory failing me, but I'm pretty sure back when I collected during the days of classic space, you were lucky to get 1-3 figs for a really big ship it was more the bundle packs that were all minifigs and gear that gave you more, now it seems that a small little ship gets you 2-3 easily and the biger ones have far more. Though in all honesty I guess it depends on what your going for, and what your aim is with minifigs.
  17. Heh I havn't been playing in ages, but with my nephew getting into lego miners and lego Starwars has got me pulling out my old stuff and wanting to collect again, also remembering just how few pieces I had for many of the things I wanted to make. Are there any suggestions for where to buy online, or what to buy? I've been thinking of ebay bulk buys like 1 pound for 6$'s + S&H that seems to be popular right now, just get a varity and collection of lego as a base to build stuff then worry about particular pieces, and colours and themes later. Though the set themes I have been interested in collecting are. Cowboy/indian sets Castle sets classic, and classic like space sets And maybe some lego towns, or at least the ability to get stuff to make a decent sized lego city. The sets I have thought about buying were the Viking fortress because I liked how it looks and the theme, and the medevil villedge big set.
  18. On a related note, how many people buy sets more so for the parts in them, then the set itself? With easier to buy individual pieces now probably less so, but growing up I remember a cuople of sets I got more because I needed the pieces in them, then for the set themselves.
  19. Well I figured, I was thinking of grabbing ebay bulk purchases, and been keeping a eye out in donation stores and garage sales.
  20. Heh just got back into Lego after a long gap, though been checking out the sets from time to time, got a nephew thats starting into lego so it's rekindled alot of my old interest in lego, even pulled out what was left of my old collection and had survived the moves and such. Looking online has had me want to try to my own hands at massive lego creations or just build those old ideas I used to have. Any tips for a returner to lego? Partly curious about whats the best way to increase a collection, at this point not worrying too much about what specific pieces I get and such, as much as I am interested in getting a base collection that I can create various things from, then worry about what I'm missing or need later.
