I guess for me part of it is, not knowing how many pieces I need/have to make. I've just organized my primary bricks into colours. Yellow/orange green red black grey white brown/beige/dark beige and such. And shades of those colours. The brown/beige colours is because I really want to do a old western style diarama but not quiet sure how to start with it just yet.

I've just repoked my head out of my dark ages, and seeing alot of neat stuff :> One thing I really want, is 4-5 werewolf monster fighters, I love the werewolf, plus the tree stuff be good for some nature stuff I want to make. Dino set, for some of the dinosaurs and other parts. Monster hunter castle, and mansion, and helms deep for parts and just think they look awesome. Some of the ships from Ninjaq or pirates of the caribean. Star wars, "Xwing, Tie fighter, Jaba the hutt palace. And maybe some otehrs. I plan on most likly getting them all over time, my main concern is, since I don't know when they came out exactly and when they be out of print, which ones should I get first to make sure I'm not paying post or too much post print costs?

How do you guys setup what your making, do you just decide to begin and see where it goes and change as things progress, or do you go into it with a 100% clear idea of it? Especially for larger diarama's and such.

In a perfect world, but considering how many people in just america alone that are at the top, and considered great people...got there by the philosphy, "If you can't get caught, or pay of those that would caught you, do it."

Best way to avoid being caught I would think is, buy 2-3 expensive products for 7 dollars, but then buy a game or two at full price that you want, or something else, the average will come out higher, so harder to spot then if you buy 5 huge boxes and leave the store with only paying 35$'s or such. That might be how it be hard unless they spotted it as it went through, the price wouldn't bring any red flags. Truth be told, I'm too cowardly tobe a crook :> I be too concerned about being caught, or such plus what fun is having money and stuff if your in jail.

I bought 4 2$ Snaptite containers at the dollar store going to test them out, 5.75L, long and narrow, and my main bookcase just fits, my secondary which will probably be my case for always and curently using lego just a bit of overhang, going to try to fit some colours in and see how they work out, will buy more on cheque day next week.

What about oddities? Like specialty space parts and such castles are easy, but some of the ship/space and such that don't fit into wings, windows and such parts get a bit complicated.

Is it best to sort by type and colour, or just colour? Right now the closest I have to by colour is I have brown/beiege/dark beiege and simular off colours sorted into a single bin for when I start making some desert scenes. For regular bricks was thinking of just sorting by colour, maybe at best if collection gets too big, sort plates and bricks by colour.

Actually my understanding, though I think it's a tiny bit out of date, is that they don't post any newer sets then 2-4 years due to copyright and only post instructions when they go out of print, though not sure if that apply to parts list, just my understanding.

I have a decent selection and growing, bought some random pound lots from Ebay, but really at a lost how best to sort. Especially the random larger pieces that don't really fit into any catagory. Right now my main method is. Main lego, which is slopes, flat, 1BYX, 2 by X are in one bin. Tires/vehicle parts are in another. Wings or wing like are in a different. 4byX cilindars and parts are in another. the 1X tubes and caps are in another. And a big bulk of just completly random. But finding it hard to really work with, wanting to organize into colours, but not sure. Any suggestions?

Actually something like this would be good for catalog so you can keep track of what pieces you yourself have. This would be something I'm curious about.

The closest thing I can think of is, it looks like the wheel part of the steering wheel.

I'm not sure how to imbed the image, but here is my old bases,along with the tear that is probably almost as old as they are from being in a toybox with tons of other stuff in it.

Did you get any of the old lego figurines? :> No hands, just bumps on the body and the legs for a single piece, no aticulating legs or anything. Nice job, is it hard to transfer stuff like that without having it fall apart on you?

heh yeah, I have two shelves for them now, but as I figure out where I'm storing lego...that will go down :> I really really want a large mansion or something with tons of store room.

I guess as your collection gets bigger it's easier to wait longer, but do you keep your moc forever, or just photograph it to death and then tear appart to make other mocs, and stuff? And what about sets? Keep them a bit, or build them once to see the design then take apart?

Right now I have the boxes from the sets I've bought, mostly just for collection, probably going to end up just saving the instructions like others have said.

heh well some stuff I might have to skip, I know some stuff can be helped by online stores and such that sell specific pieces and such, and of course it might be hard and long, though it's not like even if I had ll the pieces I be able to put them out in a month or even a year, it be something I work on as I go, keeping a eye out for pieces I need even if not the exact colour. It be crazy, but :> No one ever said anything be easy, probably in some ways no more crazy then those that buy 50000000 pieces to make a diarama :> just maybe a bit harder to get those exact pieces.

Something that I wanted to do a few years ago when I first got back into lego, but being busy and having no real place for a bigger collection of lego put it off, but been thinking of this idea, maybe a youtube channel, using time lapse photography which is. Go through the history of lego, from the start, to finish, and build every set made, with my limited selection of pieces, which I'm growing, they end up more technocolour style at first, though try to get as close to the true colours where I could. But just construct the sets, both as a history project, and for fun, to see how lego has changed over the years, and to relive some of the earlier childhood lego sets, and enjoy the ones that arn't for sale. Is this something people be interested in watching vids of? Or just a silly dumb idea? I plan to do it any way for fun, just curious opinions.

What do you use for your ideas, just off the top of your head, looking at other creations, or just pictures and such? Finally getting my collection up to where I can make some stuff, and starting to look for particular specialized pieces like desert colours and such. Now just need to start thinking of what to make.

They look interesting, but if not in need of wheel parts and such, is there anything really good, or particular sets worth grabbing? I have tons of tires, though I guess a bit low on the fancier new car body parts.

Though on average how often does new theme come in? They last 1-3 years or so, but when was the last new theme, and on average when might we expect the next new them? So right now they have technically two space themes? space police/star wars or is police considered something different?

I was just comparing them since they have themes, really old, still popular and such. Plus my nephew got a playmbil pirate boat it had two figures some weapons and a chest of gold, interesting but doesn't seem to have as much replaybility as lego, especially since it really only works with a few other sets simular to it oh well :> Just curious peoples thoughts.
