What if the golden masks are shards of the mask of ultimate power? When ekimu hit the mask, it may have shattered, resulting in the massive shockwave. The could protectors hid the masks so the mask of ultimate power would never be remade. The MoUP was revealed quite early on to have been made by combining all the elements into one mask.
