It's such a shame they retired the 5-high window, not because of Cafe Corner, but because the new 6-high are too tall for MOCs based on the 80s 90s town designs :(((

wrong thread

I agree with you, no doubt. I just meant if there are Modular sets that for some reasons may be more valuable than others in a few years... i.e. Fire Brigade would be extra valuable for some reason...
-
Why this will happen with the Fire Brigade and not the Green Grocer for example, that's already phased out?
-
Well, Bricklink is not that much cheaper either.
-
No, I probably won't. You think prices have reached a plateau the last few months?
-
I was reading T&B forums and somebody made a comment of hand of how Cafe Corner was now 800!! I checked and indeed is so expensive, I couldn't believe it! How that happened? http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=10182+cafe+lego&_sacat=See-All-Categories I mean, I understand is been out of the market for a couple of years, and usually the prices go up. I would understand something like 400 for it... but $800 to $1200?? Is there any special reason for this sudden bump? It was a sudden bump or it's been gradual? I just wonder if there is a mysterious story behind. I bought the set maybe on 2009... and it costed me maybe 200EUR? I don't remember really. I have it there untouched... I was actually thinking of taking it apart for pieces (I don't plan to buy all Modular Buildings, too much money that I would spend every year!) I should consider just keep it for a while, or just sell it...

What current sets are good to stock up pieces?

hehe, my profile pic may be misleading. I'm mainly focused on Town, on small buildings and vehicles, following the 80s-90s design (open buildings, 4stud0wide vehicles)... Also I'm thinking of creating a Theme Park for the town, so I was thinking of making an Atlantis section, a Pharaon section, maybe a SWars one... etc... -

That's the thing, Modular and Creation sets seem good if you wanna create building MOCs, but not so good if you wanna make vehicles, or other wacky things that require small plates or not-so-common pieces... That's why I always end up turning to BL... (also it's such a pity to buy a Modular to take it appart - and I don't have money to buy one to keep and one to take appart :P) -
What sets in the market should I buy to separate them and use the pieces for mocs? I am always interested in special pieces from different themes, but not too many :P What sets have a good price per piece ratio nowadays? Thanks!

Wow Richie, you have good resources...

I stumbled on this set on eBay, and the description of the set was none. Just this picture. I checked BL for stickers, comparing them to the ones in the picture. It also seems to include a yellow ladder. I looked for this items on BL but I couldn't found anything. The set sold for 10GBP on eBay. Now I'm just curious. What the hell is this set??
-
Thanks! I will probably do :P It's strange, I've never seen an 6444 in European box... even in BL they are all pretty much in US/Canada...

Somebody suggested me to use nail polish remover. Has a bit of acetone and water. I tried with a q-tip dipped in remover and rubbing it on the tyres and took out a quite a bit of the oil without damaging the tyres... but still have a slight oily feeling.

Hi all, I searched for threads on this topic but I found none. I've got a bunch of sets from late 90s and early 2000s, and they suffer from this problem. I think I saw a thread about defects in Lego parts and this was mentioned multiple times. My question is, do you guys know any good way to get rid of the oil without damaging the tyres themselves? Thanks!

Penas2000, this post NEEDS pictures ;)

Thanks DaveE for explaining the "mystery" in great detail.

I recently found out about this. I heard long ago that Lego produced some boxes with random and rare pieces that were going out of production... is this box one of these boxes?? Can somebody tell me more about these surprise boxes, what kind of content hold? Thanks!

Hi everyone, I'd like to know if there is any place where I can confirm for sure if some of the classic sets are US only or not. I try to collect sets in their EU version, but sometimes I'm not sure if that set was only available in the US. Brickset is a good reference, but sometimes I have the suspicion that some sets are indeed US only even if not stated as this in Brickset. Example: http://brickset.com/detail/?set=6553-1 http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=6387-1 http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=6444-1 Any other way to confirm if there was a EU version of sets like this? Thanks!

Hi everyone, I'm interested in collecting all the catalogues between 1983 till 1996 aprox, and I already have a bunch, but I find myself with different catalogues of the same year, some US some EU... Is there any place in teh internets where to find exactly the cover of, let's say, the cover of the EU catalogues, and how many per year where published? Do you know if LEGO used to publish two per year (winter/summer)? Thanks!

Cool, then I can pick the Creator sets also based on the predominant color scheme and get lots of pieces of that color. I guess I'll still have to go to BL for specific bricks (doors and car baseplates, windscreens, etc) PS: I'm puzzled with my profile picture. I didn't uploaded this picture at all lol! I may have used years ago in a different forum but I don't know how it got here. The Internets keep amazing me.

Hello there! This is my first post in the forum ever, although I've been following it for a long time now. I collect town sets from the classic town series (85 to 95 more or less) but now it's time to start creating my own 4-wide vehicles and small houses, i.e. http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=6643-1 http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=6698-1 or http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=6683-1 My question is what is the best way (as in cheapest and fastest) to obtain lots of pieces that can be used in this kind of MOCs? I can get specific parts in Bricklink (car doors and baseplates, etc) but I wonder if you guys have particular strategies when it comes to build up your stock of pieces (I've seen comments on ratios of piece/value somewhere in the forum) Also, any specific recommendations on sets to buy that are good to get this kind of pieces, like buckets of pieces or something? THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
