I got a childhood set today which will be a display piece. However, the seller haven't exactly cleaned it to the stage I prefer. How do you do that without putting prints on blocks at risk, but still get rid of all the gunk in the crooks and crannies?

Found the town square in a local toys'r'us shop here. At 999 nok (158 usd) it is a tad on the expensive side, so I'll be searching for cheaper alternatives or a sale. But at least if I fail it is available there. A store that had a huge box of generic bricks with roofs and windows etc was also sold out. But at least I got the table to have the roads on for the kid. So it's a start.

I've looked at the bikeshop/cafe, just didn't look that easy to play with. but the 60026 set below was just perfect. where do I find that at sane prices? (ebay said 71 usd shipping. has to be somewhere closer i can get it) The small cottage would easily be one of the houses. I saw a huge set I'm buying today that had roof and windows. Hopefully that allows me to build a generic house without one wall with no purpose beside being a space to play in. I wonder what my spouse will say when i set up this table. The time I asked she thought it was a stupid idea, but that's because she have no clue about fun. ;)

I got plans for a table for my kids legos with 3x6 road or green 25x25cm squares. Maybe with extension if the interest expands. But it would be a rather empty city. He is getting a police station - he is one of those kids that wants to be a police when he grow up. Today he made a "police" sign from hama beads. Well, not the worst trade to prosper to. Anyhow, it shouldn't be all police. There are a lot of former and new sets of certain houses. However, I would guess he would like to play with them and not just have them as props. any ideas for what would be inexpensive sets that would be able to capture the imagination of this soon to be five year old? He understand police, but should either be a home or a kind of store a five year old would have any idea about. I'll probably be the one to build them, so that they doesn't fall within his age range isn't a problem. It is just that he has to relate to them somehow. He have years and years to develop the city, so it is just a couple to start.

He is like his father. Don't do things by instructions - just by his mind. I have yet to make him build something out of the instructions. But he builds on something every day. I won my childhood space ship (not with the original box. but i think i got it somewhere at home. I never trew away boxes back in the day), now this will be on display in my home office (if I manage to build my own back at one point by getting the parts i lack, my kid will have the one i bought ;): Whenever I'm allowed to write my own posts. I got questions regarding my city building (that however is for the kid) ;)

This is the only pet I ever want to own I grew up on a farm, we had a lot of different animals. Just to show what we had in the 90s beside cows and bulls: I had mainly cats and rabbits as pets. This is my last cat: http://mork.me/archive/PER.jpg However, as an adult I've never had the urge to own an animal. I got two kids, but unless every friend get an animal - I'll keep the house pet free. We can visit the zoo at any time in case the kids wants to say hi to or pet an animal, it is just 15 minutes away and we have a year pass for the entire family. And if they want to pet a dog or cat. We have family who has that just a quick visit away.

While the finish is not up to LEGO standards, I really like the fact that some of the clone sets looks like the style lego did when I was a kid (more blocky, less refined). Some even have direct copies of 80s lego. And not to mention, you get a whole lot of stuff LEGO doesn't want to make.

i see. 32 stud plates are 25cm. so 75 cm then. (just under 2.5 feet) Well, kind of wider than your average table, but I found something that can work. could fit 18 baseplates, which would be a nice city.

while my train was the set I recall with most pride, the first large set I recall was a particular space ship. I can't imagine i find all the parts for it at my mothers place, so I'm currently bidding on it on eBay. But have to say that one my kids won't be taking apart. ;)

I have the computer guy minifig http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cHRcRtLfyBI/UCEMVy-CVWI/AAAAAAAAGQQ/QrIcKw6QXtk/s1600/IMG_2872.JPG which is since it represent me quite well beside the silly clothes. I'd love to have my spouse as well as a minifig. she is a chemical engineer by trade. I've seen a chemist minifig but i'd like that with blond hair. Is there a way to do that beside ordering at ebay's silly prices? I mean, while I do like the notion - paying like 25 euro for it is a bit too much for my taste.

I got a plan to build a L shaped table for my kids room to build a city on. I got 180cm in one direction, and a bit more in the other. since i want it to be easy to reach and play i don't want it to be too wide though since it is going to be accessible from one side only. But I still want to be able to build a train that goes around the city. So how wide do I need to make it to be able to fit a 180 degree bend? After visiting a friend in my childhood, I saw he had a 7740 train set. I immediately wanted one myself, but since we were short on cash I had spend my own savings on it. So half a year later I was the proud owner of a 7715 set. quite shortly after I got the motor and control for it. It is in a box at my mothers house half the country away, on the last visit i thought about bringing that home, but couldn't find both weights for the train so it fell over in the bends if the speed were too great, the rubber on the wheels were gone because of age so it spun if dragging too much weight and only one wagon was complete. And the track was so short it limited the use a bit with only the original circles and one set of straights. So I guess it is time for something new.

I'm a 37 year old guy. I'm not the typical lego fan since i'm not getting anything for my self, but my (oldest, four year old) kid at least have more lego than his friends. While the sets stay in their original form a week at most - I'm always amazed what he thinks of when he combine them with the other sets he got. I have never subjected him to car culture of any kind, but his lego sports car suddenly had a big spoiler and arrays of lights, a big engine and bigger wheels than original. If they are not teared to pieces to create submarines, airplanes or whatever is on his mind. It is because of him I'm here, I want to build on that. My youngest is just tossing the pieces of the old duplo sets his older brother had around. But that's what ten month olds do. But about me. My hobbies are retro computers and consoles, photography and electronics. I'm an computer science engineer by trade.
