Has anyone else noticed a serious increase in prices for the parts to build this beast, even using different colors? I was considering doing another but I think I may reconsider now.

I grew up with the space themed Lego of the early 80's, to me this was "real" Lego and far more collectible to me personally. All those licenced themes are just things Lego probably needs to do to survive. Now looking back at that little 80's space craft that I cherished so much and the current 10179 sitting on my shelf...i'll take that 10179 over my beloved space craft any day and everyday. Everybody has a different perspective and collecting is a personal choice, no right or wrong.

You had me up until the point you say you built the 10179 in 4 hours. You know that translates to 1 part every 3 seconds?

I bricklinked mine too but took it one step further doing it all black (well actually over 99% black since not parts exist). Cost for sure exceeded the 2k due to lack of bricklink experience at the time. Posted a pic of it in another topic - Alternate color Ships

I built this a few years back, just thought it would be cool looking. Took a lot of time and a lot of money, picture isn't great and really doesn't do it justice.
