  1. Anyone else hear the Imperial March while reading the last post in #142?
  2. Tired, a familiar Black Knight slowly stepped back inside the Hall. The election was over. It had been close - but not close enough. He leaned against the bar, not seeing the familiar name of Immortalis scrawled about the top of one of the posted quests. He looked around the room, and grunted. "Anyone want to fight a duel in the Arena?" He reached into his Bag of Holding, and pulled out a pair of tickets. "It's closed, but I've got a pair of passes..."
  3. Nice! (If HEROICA ever goes sci-fi, I guess we know which character is going to best blend in! )
  4. Haha! I'm in the 3 gifts club too! Thanks, Sandy! No idea when I'll use my new, third deck of cards, but that triple multiplier may just come in handy someday... A very Merry Grogsmas to everyone.
  5. Heh.In all fairness, you're probably right, and Lind would probably call it the same way...but I'm not too big a fan of the whole "Good Nephilim" idea, anyways...Eh, well.
  6. You make a horrible Lawful Good player...
  7. The nephilim, of course. There was a...tiny to-do about them, awhile back, if I recall correctly.
  8. Also, someone kill that monster!
  9. "If the Wolf is really so much for someone ruling justly, then why didn't you cast a vote towards Eubric becoming a republic? There's no juster system of ruling than that." "Agreed. If it's earned fairly, it belongs to him to do with and use as he pleases."
  10. I was not mass-PMing, I was politely reminding people that the deadline was drawing near, and, if they were interested, giving a calm overview of the choices. I wasn't soliciting your vote, I was asking you if you were still planning on nominating Natasha. "Somewhat positive" is an understatement, but it's all but over now - it may already be over, according to the rules. That was yesterday, at 4:10 A.M.
  11. "If you win, Guts, I will calmly work for you in helping improve the situation, but I do not think your victory is the ideal solution for this city.
  12. That stuff about "mighty roar of the people" wasn't just me spouting rhetoric...
  13. Particular emphasis on 'tiring' - right now, due to personal life, I am just worn out. Good luck, Guts. But for point of reference, you barely won. There were points yesterday, behind-the-scenes, where I was within two votes of beating the 13-vote Ji Pei!
  14. Several more hours of tiring debate followed, with the candidate for a Republic steadfastly refusing to abandon his dream of a Free Eubric, and the voting closed. Unfortunately, due to a clerical error that would be discussed heatedly for the next hundred years, the Republic candidate's personal two votes were - 'accidentally', by the clerk, it was suggested - filed under Guts Holla, causing that candidate's victory.
  15. Ah. That makes more sense.Still, though - the Ji Pei could in theory call on Xu resources.
  16. "Unfortunately, I have not had that pleasure."
  17. ...Then how the heck do they have an empire?!
  18. "You clearly haven't spent much time studying them, then." "I'm for neither candidate. I want a republic, where every man has power. But if we are going to be swallowed up by yet another dynasty, it might as well be the one that's most likely to succeed, and the one that's most likely to treat its people well." "And architects is what this city needs, not more swords. Architects to a better future.I'd rather they be architects working on a republic, but..." The Black Knight shrugged. "And if that's all you think the Ji Pei are capable of, you need to stick your nose into more books, my friend. The empire of Xu is exceedingly impressive in size and scope."
  19. "I am firmly against dynasties. I was merely saying, if it was only a question of who could stand up against the Wolfgang, the Ji Pei are the ones with an actual army, and actual resources. "I'm not quite certain what you're asking...?" "Ah."
  20. "I do value this city, and I value its freedom. And voting one man king over all, never brings freedom." "Jun's not a clown. I have doubts as to whether you or he would make the better king, but the Ji Pei dynasty is quite capable of standing up against the Wolfgang."
  21. The Black Knight nodded quietly. "You are right, my friend. By myself, I cannot be those things.None of us can be those things. But by banding together in a republic, we create a composition that is all of those things, and more." He walked forward, and looked out at the crowd. "In a dictatorship, all of those things axis around what a single man can bring to the table. But a republic draws on all of the skills a multitude of skilled workers, teachers, and heroes can bring to the table." "No. I cannot promise that. But I can promise that every effort will be taken with the sole plan in mind of avoiding that end - and that is all any of us can promise."
  22. I was about to point that out myself, but apparently... That seems kind of unbalanced...
  23. There isn't such a huge surge, really. Hybros and Atramor have 5 votes each, and Warlen has 3.
  24. It worked well...until Caeser. Whereas America is still working well(for the most part, anyway. ). Bit of a difference there.
  25. Or...you can have a case like with the United States.Where there was massive dis-unification at its creation. But people persisted. And in time, it thrived, and it's still around today, two hundred years later. Which is why we need to offer them something even better than the Wolfgang. Ulric's trying to make himself king, to rule over them - but a republic offers them that power. In a republic, they have the power over their future. Except the USSR was also trying to enact Socialism. Lind isn't trying to do that, he's attempting to bring about a republic. Not a Socialist state.
