One thing that amazed (and slightly irritated) me was the amount of gaps inside the ship and the complete lack of 1x1 studs! I think I only own two sets that don't include studs (obviously not including technic...) and it just seems weird to have a set this big that doesn't have any. There are a lot of little gaps that seem a bit lazy and I was crying out to be filled by little round studs. One little downside in an otherwise good set.

REVIEW: 7962 Anakin's & Sebulba's Podracers
Oddibossity replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Great review, I think you've sold me the set... With that orange hairpiece on Obi-Wan, the orange skin on his torso suddenly makes sense- showing off his manly orange chest hair. -
Interesting seeing the inclusion of the two trans-orange and light bley cheese-slopes on the walker's controls- they are not actually included in the model's instructions. They are just the two spare pieces that look good as control-lights. Strange how TLG 'edits' the models for cartoons...

So I decided to splurge out and spend the $60 on the Geonosian starfighter, only to find that the Geonosian's head-printing is a bit funky... Everything's been printed too high up, so he has his teeth nicely settled on his lips and his nose cavity is printed halfway up the actual nose. It's a shame the poor guy looks so silly compared to the angry warrior seen on lots of other official pics. I tried TLG's replacement parts service and it arrived today, but the new head is exactly the same! I don't know whether they'll allow me another try, or whether I should just let it be. I'm just disappointed that the replacement head is just as bad as the first. That's the trouble with such intricate printing and head moulds- if it's not perfect, then it just looks bad. Of course when they ARE perfect, almost all look , but that's not the point. Oh, the woes of unfortunate printing-machine encounters...

LEGO Star Wars 2012 Pictures and Rumors
Oddibossity replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Agreed. I'm excited! We're finally having a new cockpit window piece that doesn't rely on fragile clips and unrealistic lasers... I bet it was just because TLG can now add flick-fire missiles I'm sure it will all work out, and if it doesn't- hey! That's what MOD-ing is for. (HOW MOD-ing will work for such a necessarily printed piece I don't know, but TLG still has a few more months.) -
LEGO Star Wars 2012 Pictures and Rumors
Oddibossity replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Can anyone identify the sloped piece on either side of the cockpit shield piece? It looks like it should be a 3x1 slope, but if there were two, it would stick out and yet the curve seems to end after 4 studs. It could be that there's just a cheese slope, but that would look assymetrical and wreck the curve. Could it be a new part? (Or is my eyesight just bad?) Overall, it is a FANTASTIC looking set and the figs are sooo ripe- - I mean, awesome. I will definitely be getting this one. EDIT: Corrected the link. -
I would really like to see a return of the 'textured' printing on boxes. My boxes for the Y-Wing starfighter, Naboo Fighter and Vulture Droid, TIE Interceptor and 6205 V-Wing fighter all have different levels of glossiness which gives a fantastic layering effect. All the ships (and the vulture droid) have an extra layer of glossy printing over them compared to the background which is slightly rougher and more matte. I've noticed on all the current boxes, it's just plain shiny all over. I much prefer the 'layered' printing, and I hope to see it come back. It just adds nice highlights to the sets' feature items. I am also desperate for a Kaminoan figure. They do crop up a few times throughout the CW series, and there are less-common characters who have been given the Lego treatment. Though I wonder if they are being planned for when/if EPII is released in 3D? (EDIT: Combined posts)

So here's my attempt on a Droideka. As many of you have said before, a combination of all three official versions so far would wield the best result, so I've tried that. Unfortunately it's not system-scaled, but I like it! Here's my progress. Please comment on which features you like best from each so I can try to implement into a final version. V1. V2. V3 (Current stage). Rolled up. My favourite As you can see, I aimed for a more brick-built version than the excessive clip-arms of the official releases, and I think the curves work much better. Plus, it actually rolls! Sort of. When the head bends down over its front it reates enough of a curve to flatten out the black dome underneath for it to roll. Sorry, I don't actually have the dome in brown or even dark grey, so black had to do. As for the tooth/claw pieces I only had them in white. The egs are the only part I'm really not sure about (apart from the obvious colours). I don't know whether to keep the same configuration or replace all the bent technic connectors with replicas of the back leg. That one needs to be hinged so it can curve enough to complete the ball formation- it looks wrong otherwise. I'll post a comment later with an LDD screenshot of my droideka in an ideal world where I have all the parts I need... but for now, here's my final shot: Jedi and co. battle it out against a supersized destroyer. "Ohze tenoes! I is 'splodes!" Enjoy, and please give feedback. Thanks!

Mandalorian Shuttle, yes! Those things were cool. My serious wishes are for the Geonosian arena and Midi-Scaled droids. TLG never gets the opportunity to show off creative creatures in such a theme as SW and the Geonosian arena is CRYING OUT to be made. It was one of the highlights of Ep. II! Plus, who wouldn't pass up the opportunity for NON-CW Anakin, Padme, Obi-Wan AND a couple of Geonosians for good measure? My second wish: the Midi-droids. In 2000 (?) there were the fantastic and legendary Technic sets, and in the last few years we've had the fantastic introduction of Midi, plus so many great new moulds, and we really haven't seen a decent Destroyer since then. I would adore remakes of these droids in a bigger scale and they could be really fantastic.

I got the Geonosian Starfighter and also Slave 1 most recently. Slave 1 in Aus is a whopping $150 which is ridiculous since US price is $80 and the AUD is now worth more than the USD. Luckily, I found a 'clearance' item for that exact price (the box was a little ravaged, but I don't care).
-
Over in Aus I was ecstatic to finally see the Pharaoh's Quest sets emerging- I've been waiting for the scarab attack, so I got one. I also got the Geonosian Starfighter and a discounted Slave 1 with a slightly damaged box.
-
Seconded. I was (amazingly) lucky enough to win one of the surveys (you know, the one with the SCREAMING kid?) and I got a $100 (AUD) set- Anakin's Y-Wing Starfighter. I also desparately needed some replacement droid arms and 1x2 clip bars for my Hyena Droid Bomber because they all kept breaking! They were so quick and polite.
-
Today I finally couldn't resist it... The 8097 Slave 1. Normally (in Aus) it's $150 which is TOTALLY ridiculous but I found one in clearance for only $79.87 (peculiar price, but almost half!). I decided yes, even though the box had a large (possibly deliberate) gash in the front (hence the clearance, no doubt). I am strangely disappointed with its size. It just feels too BIG and BLOCKY, which I know is crazy since it's the awesome building medium of Lego, but I can't help my slight overall disappointment. I'll probably think of it better tomorrow after a good night's sleep (I was building/expanding/reassembling properly again [all in all, just playing] with it for upwards of four hour this afternoon so I probably just need some rest).
-
Wow! Some surprises, but the bigger sets are still too $-y for my wallet at present but I am perfectly happy with the smaller sets. Nightspeeder is great- much better than prelims now with the decals and figs but seemingly terminally un-swooshable. I am now DESPARATE for pics of the geonosian starfighter as I am sure it will be FAB!
-
Savage in CW= AWESOME savage in Lego= weird blocky thing that looks ugly. I wonder if Lego will ever create a variant on the standard minifig body or head to avoid such fails on people with longer/thinner faces (i.e. Ahsoka, Dooku) and/or a slimmer body. Apart from that, looking good and bring on toyfair!
-
I see. I wasn't aware it hadn't even been shown yet... I never have time to watch CW. Thanks anyway.
-
Does anybody know the 'actual' name (classification or whatever) of the Dathomir Speeder (or a link to Wookiepedia)? Thanks
-
Hmm that's an interesting point about the animals. However I am not too fond of this wave. The scenery in endor attack is a bit meh and I already have a speeder. Only two ewoks and one measly scout trooper doesn't do it for me. The designs on the MF and podracers look good, but too much money... As a personal fan of obscure ships, I will definitely be getting the cute little Geonosian Speeder. The Dathomir speeder is neither obscure or cute- just plain ugly. Does anyone know of any reference pics on wookiepedia etc.? it's good the sith infiltrator got a revamp but it is now TOO BLOCKY! 'Odd' out. Afterthought: The figs are all so GOOD though...
-
Great pics indeed. It's nice to see what they actually look like now and I have to say I'm liking them a lot more than before. Mace's JSF set looks pretty decent with all the droids and the SF itself isn't that bad at all! I reckon the speeder bike also looks good but of course WAY too fat, unfortunately unavoidable (unless TLG brings in a new piece which fits like a bicycle frame between the legs... ). However, the Proton Cannon still looks hideous, although I don't mind the screenshot pic from wookiepedia. Sometimes I think TLG just puts really unflattering pics on the box... Although it does have great parts and figs (and lots of droids also ). Any ideas when the next wave of prelims will be out? I can't wait!!
-
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't like it either, but I imagine people were saying similar things about the Home One before pics. It doesn't seem like TLG are being particularly nice for next year anyway, what with stupid prices, lack of OT for ages and (twitch) the glued magnet issue...
-
I'm wondering if (to escape from the monotony of a similar outside design which will be too small and undetailed anyway) the new MF set is actually a playset of various rooms, like where Luke does his training, the hyperdrive, perhaps the cockpit as well. It could be like the Home One set. Nobody has mentioned this possibility yet (that I've seen), but I think it could be a possibility, especially since TLG did just release the Midi scale one last year. I guess we'll just have to wait and see... I hate waiting!
-
Hmm. Been looking at the V-Wing. Really liking the re-design (but anything could be better than the simplistic older one) but I can't see where the droid fits in. It just looks like it's covered up by a 2x4 plate. It's hard to tell because the pics aren't high-def. Ho hum. I've been warily watching this first wave for a while, and now that official pics have come out, I find myself liking them more. Still I reckon I'll wait until July/later when the next wave comes out (Geonosian Fighter, Sith Infiltrator, Endor & Geonosis BPs, Podracers and Frigate!!) as they are all great scenes from the movies. Hopefully the rumours will prove true!

Excuse me, KielDaMan, but to which ' tri-winged shuttle' do you refer?' I'm not a watcher of the CW series so could you post a link so I can read? (I may not be a fan of the series as such, but I do really like a lot of the vehicles) Thanks!
-
... Heh. That would be TATTUQOLTUAE in acronym-form (aka. my other internet username...) Nerd session over. I completely agree. 'Individual STAPS and Little Assorted Speeders Battle Pack'... I too like the little stuff. It's fun! I think if I did buy the set, it would solely be for the droids and Mace Windu. Scrap the starfighter.
-
I reckon that the midi-scale is a FANTASTIC idea and would LOVE for TLG to introduce droids into the category. I reckon if Lego produced midi scale droids like the battle droid or destroyer droid then they would sell like wildfire. Imagine actually getting a proper Destroyer droid? The technic one 8002 was just fantastic, but a little too big and fiddly (and 10 years ago...). Neither of the minifig-scale ones have done any justice. So, yeah. MIDI-SCALE DROIDS! Even re-releases of the old technic SW droids would be cool...
