  1. Yeah, that was one of the things I learned. If you want to make a realistic looking room with some furniture, it has to be quite large - lego furniture takes up a lot of room. But point taken, I will try to add some interior design to it.
  2. Very nicely done - bravo! Where did you get those totally black mini figs?
  3. Thanks guys. No - I have not seen that one, will look it up. The shape grew "organically", as I went along. I had envisioned a stand alone rectangular keep, but size limits would not allow it, so it ended like you what you see.
  4. Wow - just wow. That stunning. Great work!
  5. I have recently started on this whole lego thing and want to try my hand at building castles. I have just finished my first effort. This is very much intended as a learning experience. And I have learned much, among other things that you need a LOT of bricks to build anything worthwhile - and that you need more space than you would think. Next time I will not build on a baseplate - it quite limiting. During the process, I constantly ran out of pieces, so a few Bricklink orders have been made along the way. I have focused on playability (because my 6 year old niece often visits and have showed a lot of interest) - therefore it opens in the back - and all floors/layers can be removed so that you can look into the rooms. (It was not my initial intention to make the top floor a princess bedroom with pink & red tiles either ) Realism have not been a very important factor - that will be next time around. More photos here (I apologize for the less than professional quality.)
  6. Tak :-) Yeah, I know that Moc'ing is not cheaper per se - but not being (much) into sets removes the urge to buy the steady stream of new stuff being released.
  7. Hello all My name is Jan, I'm 41 and have gotten back into Lego via our niece who are currently into Friends big time. And like the nice uncle I am, we have bought and built several sets together by now. (Although I am also being a little selfish in encouraging this - building with Lego is much more fun that playing with dolls and what have you ) That kind of reawakened my interest in Lego and I have been building for myself since the start of 2014. Although compared to the dedication and effort I see on sites such as this, I think I must be described as very much a casual AFOL. I enjoy building stuff and making it up as I go along and as a fantasy fan, I decided that Castle themed stuff is probably my "thing" So I decided to try my hand at something and purchased a few bricks on Bricklink and our local Pab wall. (Which have had light bley 1x4 & 1x3 bricks this spring.) I have also bought & built the Kingdoms Joust set - but must admit that I found it a bit boring to just follow instructions - making it up myself is more to my liking. (Which is probably a good thing for my wallet - MAN some of those sets are not exactly cheap.) I have lurked here for some time, but as I have now build my very first beginner castle, I thought it was time to join the community.
