Looking for a certain piece!does it exist?
benhead replied to Diggydoes's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Mega blocks makes some weird pieces that stick to lego,I have 2, 2x2 plates that are 2 plates thick with studs on the top and bottom. If you are a loyalist(like me)then you can use the lamp holder 1x1 4081a piece and just turn it sideways. -
Space. That includes all sub-themes.It has the greatest number of unique parts,I believe.Plus I don`t care for most of the other themes.

How do you know if you really want a set?
benhead replied to Iysk's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I buy the sets that have some new special piece that I dont have then I try to find one that has the greatest number.Like the technic pneumatic t-joint piece(so many uses!)and the 1x2 slope(great for breaking up the blockyness of a creation). For the cost of legos?I saved for 3 months to buy the ultimate collector star destroyer(3500 pieces!)Then felt guilty for spending $250 untill I got to build it.It was worth the dough! -
Decided to try out the super blox(now with the quality gaurantee!)There sets look like early lego stuff, they make the sets lego won`t(military),the price is usually half as much. There are some cool pieces! Now the bad.I had a difficult time assembling the missle truck set that I bought this morning.Pieces do not stick or stay together! The instructions were hard to follow, who ever designed this set has never built anything before-the worst building techniques that I have ever seen! This person does`nt know how to offset the plates to maximize its overall strength, twice there are a couple steps where single stud bricks are connected but serve no purpose, they instead make it weak. So I pretty much got this for the mini guns. Now I know NOT to buy megablocks or superblox, the price is great but the quality is so bad its not worth the red face/finger blisters from how hard I have to squeeze the pieces together to make them stay put.

Was lookin at the collection at my walmart this morning, there fairly neet. But overpriced!$10 for 2 minifigures and a small handfull of pieces! These figure packs are`nt worth more than $6.50 each. But then I realized that your paying for the tv show and the lego universe game add-on.Still I`m going to hold off on buying any till they go on sale. Also not liking the single piece dragon head, well it looks like one big part, its probably 3-4.

Alien 2 theme!Specially an ultimate collector set of the colonial marines APC and the dropship it docked inside of! I`ve tried several times to build my own apc but they never look right cause of the complex angles on its front end.And that weird uneven triangular wind shield. You either have to make it in a huge scale to get it to look right or get the lego group to mold new pieces. I`ve tried alot of times to build a mini figure scale xenomorph(alien)but they always come out too blocky so,lego needs to mold the head and stick it on a regular mini`s body, then just add a neck accessory that comes with a long bendy tail with a spike. The feet/hands would have thin clip on claws. Eggs and facehuggers should be soft rubber, easy to get out and wrap around a mini figure`s head. The sets I`d make are; Colonial Marines APC.800 pieces, holds 6 marines plus the driver.Has turnable forward and top guns. The top gun could slide on a rail system from the rear but its not very easy to build in a small scale,so I`d suggest it just pulled off and moved. Minifigure load out consists of 1 driver,2 marines with smart guns,3 marines with pulse rifles,1 marine with flame thrower. APC dropship.1200 pieces, holds 2 minifigures and a mini scale apc.Includes 1 alien,1 egg,2 facehuggers. Power Loader.400 pieces. This is the smaller scale version, should sell at the $30-$40 price point.Has 1 minifigure,1 facehugger. Alien Queen`s chamber.600-800 pieces, includes new alien queen head mold with retractible inner jaws!Has 30 eggs,30 facehuggers,2 minifigures(Ripley and newt).Has slotted walls for minifigure victims.Building the queen`s egg pouch would be tough so I would`nt bother. The queen can be removed from the wall, possibly bionicle part based. Power Loader vs Queen Alien.900 pieces.3 minifigures(ripley, newt, bishop). Alien battle pack 1.5 xenomorphs,2 eggs,2 facehuggers. Alien battle pack 2.2 royal guards,1 queen,1 facehugger. Marine battle pack 1.5 marines,2 sentry guns. Marine battle pack 2.classic characters(ripley,hicks,bishop,burke,newt),1 facehugger with holding tube. Ultimate collector sets. Alien queen.Whew, with its size and curves,I`m not sure lego is prepared to tackle this one!It could just be the head I guess. At least 3000 pieces! Alien warrior.2000 pieces, about 26 inches tall. Power Loader.2000 pieces, about 24 inches tall.Cause of its simple blocky form, please no driver! Colonial Marines APC.3000 pieces.very detailed interior,lift-off roof, working headlights, motorized top gun.It travels on a curved rail with gear teeth molded into it.Or just toothed curved plates/bricks. APC Dropship. This is the pre-james cameron`s Avatar air ship design.Comes with motorized loading ramp, accurate too-scale mini APC,folding/unfolding wings with removable missles.3500-5000 pieces. This would be a beast to build!

Whew, just in time!I managed to get all the space police sets!Which is rare, usually there are only 3-4 sets in a theme that I like. The sp base,is`nt very neeto by the way!Its quite fragile, the sideways garage door construction is a bad decision,it weakens the whole structure. This set was not worth $80!Which is why I waited till the after christmas sales and got it for $40 instead(lol!) Oh and the something-something`s pit stop set, looked horrible so I did`nt get that one,but other than that. The space limo is built really well, its in my top 3 favorite. Why are`nt these sets modular?Once you have the big spaceship, the littler ones should have been able to dock in or on it. Just a small rant, there are a couple missing sets left out in my opinion. There should have been a landing dock for the big space police ship that would connect to the back side of the hq set!A villians base,it seems to me that it would look like a space bikers bar.And a jail tube transport ship, that would carry at least 8 tubes and look like a rounder edged space hover truck(1940`s style milk truck).

I had one of those mini catalogs too,I used to lay in bed and dream about owning the futuron train. It was a pity that my interests were changing alot, from age 10 to 14,my desire to collect lego died in the teen years(ya know, thats when you discover girls).I missed getting most of the Blacktron 1,space police 1,Futuron sets.

I spend alot of time on brickshelf looking at clever building techniques that a few truely expert builders have come up with, things that I never would have thought of in a million years. But then there are some people that get lazy or they just are`nt smart enough, that use glue to modify a creation.I really hate to take the time to study how they did it and then realize that legos can`t be combined in that way, they were either cut with an exacto knife or glued. I mainly watch the mecha folders for new ideas that I can use in my own models.I really like the stuff that 'legomaster and moko' create. Is it just me or has anybody else noticed that some of the building techniques on brickshelf have been used in real lego sets?So your cool idea is being stolen by 'the lego group'!You`d think that they would be cool about it and add on the box "inspired by" and give you some acknowledgment.I know they do take ideas cause 3 years ago I have seen ideas from those models being used in those 2 little hover scooters in the new space police hq set. Just a small rant, bionicle is`nt mecha!Bionicle if anything would be the sub-skeletal frame inside a mech,or a mech with all its armor removed.Plus its just way too easy to build one and make it look like it took weeks. So I ignore all of these wanna-be posters.

ASK HERE How to clean your LEGO sets/parts?
benhead replied to jngunsw's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Cleaning lego? I wipe off the dust with my fingers.I never take them outside. -
$350?Thats way too much for played with pieces! Those 2 tubs are going to have alot of parts with stress cracks, bent then re-straightened bits, parts that no longer stay connected cause the studs are rounded. I would`nt pay more than $80,knowing that possibly 1/3 to 1/2 of them may be damaged and unusable.
-
Have you ever tried to assemble a mega block set?I have.If the pieces stay together the moment you try to pick up the completed model, they`re neat. Some of the blocks are compatible with lego. They make the sets that lego won`t,mainly war toys.Mini figure accessories are more detailed and better looking than lego. But,mega blocks are cheap crap! Most of the time the parts don`t fit together and if you can manage to force them they are permanently locked to each other forever.

Finally someone else that is tired of the lame star wars sets! Why is lego re-re-releasing the almost exact same models over and over again but with little changes?I am sick of seeing 'new clone wars' sets that are`nt new. When lego does finally make a new set its always built out of the bare minimum of pieces,it mostly looks like crap to me but they manage to charge a premium for it.The only star wars sets that I think are worth buying are the ultimate collector sets, except the 3,000 piece 'disco ball'(1st death star)that one was a joke. The star destroyer was a finger blistering beast to assemble but worth it when you were done!I could`nt justify spending $500 for the falcon(its almost a house payment) and when they had that sale on the website last year ($350 each)I did`nt have enough dough to get one! I am still waiting for the ultimate collector at-at,this vehicle is just dying to be made!Alittle afraid to ask what the price could be though! There are so many other star wars vehicles than what was in the movies, why has`nt this been tapped into yet?Why is lego so fixed on the clone wars? Its a crappy kids show that should have only lasted 1 season.
-
Cost for one!Spending $50 for unlimited virtual legos AND a game, thats a pretty good deal to me.
-
I am still patiently waiting for the ultimate collector AT-AT!It should be in the $400-$500 range and have at least 5,000 pieces. The giant disco ball lego set(death star)was the lamest set I have ever seen! But the second one with the minifigures made up for it I guess. The falcon was never my favorite ship and I wish lego would stop creating another one every 6 months in a slightly different scale. So I did`nt get the $500 monster. I did get the star destroyer though.

In one of the star wars novels many years ago there was a description of space junk collectors creating working ships from the ship chunks left over from battles, they were called "uglys".Which was more or less funky combinations of x-wings,tie fighters,y-wings,a-wings,b-wings.Has anybody tried mixing the designs yet?I personally like the look of an tie fighter with x-wing wings. I even immortalized a custom star wars micro machine in resin that looks just like that.We need to get lego to put out the real licensed sets!

I got chosen on july 27th,been playing(ahem,TESTING)the game ever since!Created a few different characters since then my current one is called "Lumpy Dump Butter"no really. You can name yer player some pretty funny combinations. I can`t say alot about the game play cause of the lego secrecy that I agreed to uphold, but its pretty fun even for adults.I`ll definently be a subscriber this fall!

[KEY TOPIC] LDD feature requests
benhead replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
1.Allow me to build with odd angles!I can build it for real why not in LDD. 2.Tighter allowances around minifigures! 3.Allow minifigure hands to be used seperatly! 4.Allow me to hinge all parts connected to hinged piece! 5.Allow any part to be in any color even if it does`nt really exist, simple tool for color matching. 6.Allow me to have the option to enable/disable high definition models(as long as you have the hardware). 7.Allow me to build a minigun without having to put in the 1x1 plate to lift up the minifigure binoculars so the don`t touch. -
Those lightsabre rods all have a thick and a thin side I have noticed. If you go slow and twist them sometimes they go in easier. Now getting them out is another story! If they get hot on the way in they will fuse together and never come apart again.Have a couple of the transparent red ones fused in technic 2x2`s with the cross holes.

Any Lego Racer and Creator fans out there?
benhead replied to Brickd's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Yer talking about the little $6 cars I guess.I liked the first couple series but they seem to be repeating with different colors only.I`m waiting for new parts before I get into buying them again. -
Well when I was younger they were all thrown in one big rubbermaid under-the-bed storage box, after years of spending days trying to get one model finished I had enough and tried using different size boxes at first but boxes like to get knocked over, crushed, take up too much space when layed out.4 years ago I started using the rubbermaid 3 drawer plastic dressers. They are cheap and can be stacked up. The top drawer has mostly technic parts since I don`t have alot of them left after building. The middle drawer is tiny pieces and special elements, alot of the one of a kind pieces go here. The bottom drawer is filled with bricks only. It was this way untill the last couple years when I started buying alot of the newer sets and hit the 1 million lego pieces mark! Now organization is dead, sorting I don`t even know where to start!Ended up just buying a 50 gallon rubbermaid(bathtub) and just started putting in whole sets with the loose stuff! The lid is on and covered with space police 3,a few bionicle vehicles(that huge red ship that shoots the plastic marbles)and the blue bionicle space ship(no not the ugly green one). Recently purchased 2 5ft by 3ft folding tables that are covered in lego sets and moc`s!Built a shelf under the window to hold a few more sets and creations. When I can no longer get in this room I`ll probably get around to sorting again.

How do you store your instructions?
benhead replied to KartoffelViking's topic in General LEGO Discussion
At first I put them in a shoe box till the lid wouldnt fit on anymore. Now they barley fit in an old motorcycle helmet box but I had to cut off the box lid cause it would`nt close. So next they will be put in a 20 gallon rubbermaid container. -
I hate that piece.I have only one,the foot studs never hold any mini figure very well and the two technic holes let arm attatchments swing too freely. My most useless pieces are any that get accidently stepped on.

Purchase in bulk from Pick a Brick
benhead replied to BryanKinkel's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I have used pick a brick before, untill I found out that bricklink has the same pieces for (alot of the time) half as much!Unless its a ancient special element from a theme that few remember, then they can cost a bit. -
Lego needs to get some japanese anime licenses fer cryin out loud! The Exo-force line was my favorite since the old space sets and themes.Till they were cheapened with limited parts per set or the terrible second series with out the light-up parts. I came accross a 3 foot high several thousand piece gundam cdrom that some guy made and for awhile was selling for $15!I remember reading in the description that there were 1,000 pages in the instructions! But I waited to long and missed getting a copy. You can see the model on brickshelf.com,there are amazing building techniques on here, stuff that I have never thought of before!A few of my favorite builders are;Moko(mastered the compact mech design),Legomaster(probably the first to master large scale mechs with robotics).
