  1. Lego Ghost, I was the same way you were the micro scale models didnt really do much for me. They didnt impress me or anything like that until I went to brickworld and saw the some microscale builds in person. To me the microscale builds are very hard to photograph well because you want to get close but that shows too much detail, and if you are too far away it just looks not right. You have pictured the mini modulars, I have not built them yet, do have it but haven't built it so I cant speak to that specific set but here are a couple of pictures I took at brickworld of some amazing mocs. These were done by Arthur Gugick Untitled by fluffybunny88, on Flickr This second picture is a bigger scale but still microscale build Untitled by fluffybunny88, on Flickr I have a few more on my flickr page but as I said they do not do the models justice, I think the best way to view a microscale model is from far away first then move closer to look at all of the details and then back away again to see how those details work with the model.
  2. Excellent review. You told us exactly what it was like to build and own one of these sets and as I just got a monorail in the last month or so it is exactly right on. I think the monorail system is one of the better systems out there that lego has put out. The track works very well together the points work well. The geared track and motors is also a great part of the system. I liked in your review pointing out all of the details in the stations, I haven't seen a lot of good pictures of it and this is a great lots of good ideas.
  3. I live in Arkansas and all of mine ship from Memphis which is only a 2 and a half hour drive from where I live. The Blue Brick, to my knowledge they do not actually manufacture in Enfeild, CT it is just the corporate offices for the US there. They may have a warehouse there but I do know they do not manufacture lego there anymore.
  4. The boxes are great, I love the ones on the one closest to the forklift on the pallet that is great, we get those boxes on pallets all the time at work and they are always shifting around. The tilting is cool too. The outside of the building looks just like a warehouse and I like the use of the black garage doors. great job!
  5. Great job on it as everyone has said. Which shade of green is that? I also like the TV and the power cord on the TV, I dont think I have ever seen that in a lego model before. Great detail.
  6. I have an ostrich feather duster that works very well. I go over my city layout once every month or so when I notice it getting bad and seems fine. At first I wasnt doing any dusting and it was setup for about 6 months the roof on one of my houses which was black was turning to gray because of all of the dust and the ostrich feather duster worked great. I think my gf got it at bed bath and beyond.
  7. This was my first brickworld and first lego convention ever and man it was a great time. My girlfriend came with me too and she had an amazing time also. For you lurkers out there if you have never been to a lego convention you should plan to go it is such a great time. I am already planning my displays for next year and looking forward to it and seeing everyone again. I didnt hang out with the eurobricks crew to much but still had a great time, special thanks to polish guy for letting me hold your bass! Here is a link to my flickr pictures from brickworld. As of today I am still uploading pictures but going through 1600 pictures and another 50 videos takes a while ;)
  8. made it to chicago tonight, long 12 hour drive no major problems. Went to the lego store in the northbrook mall got a few sets and was very impressed with the PaB, looking for one thing that they did not have out, I asked and they went and looked for me, great service! they had extra items out in addition to what was on the actual wall, some cool ones that I saw that I have never seen on a wall before was old style horses, lots of round trans bricks and cones, swords, all sorts of good stuff. I met Bryan tonight also he was walking out to dinner, cool to meet him and hopefully get to meet a few more eurobrick people here. My girlfriend and I are here so if you see some newbies with a southern accent walking around say hi.
  9. my girlfriend and I are coming in on Tuesday for our first brickworld, can't wait. Still have a couple of mocs to finish but have a few already finished and packed ready for the drive. 11.5 hours for us. Driving up on Tuesday sleeping in Wednesday and heading to the lego store before opening ceremonies on Wednesday. Looking forward to it.
  10. eurotrains, I think this locomotive is great, and as others said yes that curve would be hard to capture but I think you got it perfect. With the logo I see it is built with bricks, not that I have ever brick built letters before, but I am doing some research on it for a project, would you be able to do those in plates instead of bricks? I think you could get a little more definition with your letters by using plates. Other than that it is excellent. By the way do you have any other pictures of the trucks on the locomotive? Those look to be built very well and would like to see how you did that if you have pictures.
  11. Thanks you both for your ideas, they helped a lot and glad you could understand from my description with no pictures. Eurotrains yours seems to be exactly what I am looking for and I didn't even think to use that piece like that, it seems like it will work perfect for what I am trying to do. Fred your idea works well too and I will try that way on a different car, thinking about it that seems it would work well for a modern train car, I forgot to mention in the original post this is for based on some of the older cars from the steam age. I will post some pictures of the completed cars once I get a few more bricklink orders in. Thanks again!
  12. Hey everyone I am working on some MOCs and other things getting ready for brickworld and I built a derby car for the event but had a question about the rules, I think I am reading them right but just wanted to make sure. Here are the rules for the restrictor section: ""Restrictor plate" This category is for cars to be built in the style of official LEGO designed vehicles. All cars will be required to use "pin" axles, wheels and tires. These will be run a shorter track due to friction from the tires. The front of the car may not stick out past the starting mechanism, which will be in the middle of the lane. NO LUBRICANTS OF ANY KIND Size maximums: 8 studs wide 24 studs long (16 stud min.) 8 bricks tall Wheels must be a minimum of 4 studs apart 7 ounces ONLY LEGO elements may be used" When it says pin type wheels I am assuming they are wheels like in the standard city line like this part. If it isnt I can do it in the other division but I was just wanting to make sure. I would assume if I am correct in that type part, that the Open division would be using bricks like with a technic hole and bar to attach the wheel. Looking forward to seeing everyone and brickworld and hopefully racing a few others from eurobricks in the derby!
  13. Hey everyone, I have a little bit of a problem that I am trying to work through and would like to get some input from the train experts. I am working on a roof for a passenger car which also has a little observation area above the main roof, well in order to do that I have to have an area that is 6x10 studs, 10 running the length of the car. I use roofs similar to the emerald night roof with those 2x4 curved slope pieces these, but if you do think about it, it is 4 studs long and I really need a 2 stud wide curved slope. I cant find one that is only 2 studs wide. Does anyone have any suggestions for pieces or something that may work in its place? I don't have any pictures of what I am working on but I can in a few hours if that will help. Thanks for any ideas you can offer.
  14. that build is amazing, I am so glad to see you are bringing it to brickworld I am looking forward to seeing it. I really like the front look of it, the back is amazing of course but the details in the front with the power pole, the lights, and the sidewalk, very realistic, great job!
  15. I am looking forward to attending my first brickworld! Can't wait. By the way from the past the night on Wednesday what time does the opening ceremonies typically start? I was originally planning on driving up Tuesday and checking in Tuesday doing some sight seeing on Wednesday morning but my girlfriend may have to take a class for college and if so we may not be able to leave till later in the day on Tuesday stop somewhere overnight and finish the drive in the morning on Wednesday. I was trying to figure how far I should drive on Tuesday so I can get to the hotel and get settled before opening ceremonies. I also need to get working on my mocs..I have one that all I have is the frame for the vehicle..and I haven't even started on a derby car...
  16. I cant speak for the selection in legoland germany but legoland california had a good selection of bricks, and a lot that you dont see on pick a brick walls. There were a lot of flowers, grass pieces, clear 1x2 plates, trans 1x2 plates(like black trans from what I remember) there were a lot of 1x bricks and plates, not too many tiles from what I remember. Best bet at least for me was to stock up on flowers and grass pieces, I dont know if I will ever need more of those after that trip ;) When my girlfriend and I went to california we rode one ride and it was a boat ride through some of the parts of miniland and other places around the park it was cool. We had a late start and were only at the park for about 5 hours and spent 2 hours at miniland and we were very rushed. I'm not sure what the size comparison between miniland california to miniland germany but after we left we said we could have spent the whole day in miniland and been very happy with our day.
  17. just got registered for my first brickworld, my girlfriend will be coming also! can't wait will be lots of fun. Not planning on any big mocs but will bring a few little things probobly. I know table space is not open but are you able to register for half tables or quarter tables? Also I was looking to maybe bring a couple of train cars but don't have a big set is there any group displays planned that anyone knows of that would like an extra few cars on display?
  18. it looks like this is in the same scale as the new VW bus, I love the detail that is able to be done in that scale, this is such a great model of a great era of cars. Love all the added functions in it as well. Did you use the lego lights? or the LifeLites?
  19. great review, I have this set along with the other 2 winter village sets sitting in my closet waiting to be built, this set just shot up to the first one to build because of this review, love the story at the end!
  20. Id like to join, I have reviewed 1 set, but have a lot more in a closet waiting to be opened. Looking forward to hopefully being able to learn from the best!
  21. Looks like a cool project, I have one of those throttle quadrants actually for flight sim, great product, but in looking to see how you were doing this, the software you are using Arduino I am not familiar with it. I did a quick google search and it looks like its a programing language but how do you interface it with PF stuff in the trains. You mentioned that there is a board and IR things, are they basically IR blasters that send on the signal to the stock lego PF IR receiver? Are your trains still going to be stock? Do you have a good link for the software and interfaces? This looks like a really good project and one that I might want to do also.
  22. I love the idea of a frame like posted before, as I don't have an ikea near buy and can't find that 52x52 cm frame on the US store, wouldn't a large shadow box do basically the same thing? I am needing some for another project, I will look when I go to get the shadow boxes and see if they would work.
  23. Thanks a lot for the picture and description that helps a lot!
  24. Hello everyone, I am doing some research about the millennium bridge in london, and having never been there I have a question for someone that may have been there, or lives in london. This picture shows one side of the bridge like how you get up to it with the dual ramps, one central and 2 on either side, but I can't find a picture of what the ramps look like on the other side of the bridge. It seems everyone wants to get a picture of the bridge with the church in the background( that is St. Pauls Cathedral right?) Anyways does anyone know or have a picture of the other side of the bridge? Is it the same style with the single ramp into 2 on either side? Thanks for any advice you can offer. (not my picture found it on flickr cant embed sorry :(
  25. I am totally amazed by your city, everything is just great. Your theater is what impresses me the most, the eagle and theater written out, and all the other little details. Great job!!
