I have the ice cube tray and I love the idea of Lego brick ice cubes. The only problem is that they come out with flat bottoms, so you can't build out of them. I must try filling it with chocolate...

Well here's one from the GWLTS (Great Western Lego Train Society) show last year (I recommend browsing the whole folder): http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=2079141 Of course, it also made an appearance in the Gold C3PO competition: http://festum.de/1000steine/myimages/c-3po...111907c3podrwho These are all different Tardises built to more or less the same design. By the way, Stephen Locke's larger scale Daleks are utterly fantastic: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=207827

Lovely Daleks, particularly for LegoFactory. I'm delighted to see you included Dalek Sec. The colours aren't quite right, but here's a couple I put together, together with the Tardis. I've replaced the white domes with black/grey ones since, which makes them look a bit better. I can't claim any credit, as the designs were by Richard James and Jason Railton.

Test thread for nifty tool
lostcarpark replied to ScottManDeath's topic in Forum Information and Help
That looks like quite a handy tool, alright. I was just thinking, it shouldn't be very hard to make this into an automatic uploader to Bricklink, along the lines of the Flickr one. It would be very handy to be able to drag and drop in a load of photos and have it automatically upload them all, especially if it could make sure photos are sized to a sensible size before uploading them. -
Not in this case - 5 minifigs included: Luke, Han, Chewie, Ben and Leia.

"Kill Jar Jar" Contest Rules & Discussion
lostcarpark replied to xwingyoda's topic in Watto's Junkyard
This isn't an entry, but I was using this for a forum icon (not here) for a while: I love the idea of this competition. Good luck and happy building, every one. Could we have a special prize for "most blatant abuse of the 8x8 with overlap rule"? There were several entries in the C3PO competition that were rather taking the piss. -
Shame he's not in the UCS Millennium Falcon. Though for that money, I think it would be reasonable to expect a chrome gold one.

Fantastic episode. Simply genius setting it a year after the last one... also genius having the future humans in the spheres - plenty of clues last week, should have seen that coming. I love the 900 year old Doctor - remind anyone of the Mecon from Dan Dare (if anyone remembers that)? Or even a little of another 900 year old alien? The end bit where someone (presumably his wife) picks up the Master's ring was interesting. I don't think we've seen the last of the Master. It also makes the Master even cleverer than the Doctor realises, and her shooting him wasn't an act of revenge, but an escape plan! Could Jack be the Face of Boe? I wouldn't read too much into it, but it makes a lot of sense. Would explain why he would have come to see the end of the world, and why he would know the Doctor was not alone. I hope we'll see Jack again. He could become a sort of Brigadier figure, and I could make occasional appearances as part of Torchwood for the next few years. They've now explained that he will age, but very slowly, so he can appear in present day crossovers for the next few years, and then he could run in to the Doctor at various points in the far flung future. It would be very cool, if the series was still running in twenty years time, to have them run into Jack a million years in the future, by which time he only looks like he's in his fifties. Oh, and let's not forget, he's got two uses of his time bracelet left, which gives him an excuse to show up when he's really needed. So Martha has left the Doctor... or has she? I'm nearly certain that it's been publicly stated that she's contracted for next series, so I think she'll be back. Question is will she call him, or will he come looking for her first? I suspect the Doctor will be on his own for the Christmas special, so maybe he gets the call at the end of the episode. Or maybe Martha will fall foul of one of the Doctor's enemies and the Doctor will have to rescue her. But who on Earth knows about the Doctor and Martha and has reason to want to get back at them? What about Mrs Master? It doesn't seem quite the Master's style to need a companion, let alone a wife, so is there more to her? What if the ring is a backup device that allows him to download himself and take over her body? That could make a really cool two parter and a way for her to reenter the show. I think their relationship will be different when she does return, though. The Doctor knows he hasn't treated her as well as he should have. He also knows she's walked the Earth for a year for him, and saved him, the Earth, and all the other civilisations the Master was intending to wage war upon. This has been one of the best series of Doctor Who, old or new. Some of the earlier episodes may have been a little weak, but I believe the last six episodes are all among the best the show has ever produced. Now, I really can't wait for the Christmas special, and for the next series. By the way, did anyone see the Doctor Who special of The Weakest Link?

My tips are... 1. Get rich so you can afford to buy everything you want (still working on that one). 2. Make friends with someone in a toy shop so you can abuse their staff discount (I did that in reverse - I have a friend who got a job in a toy store, but unfortunately he only gets a measley 10%). 3. Keep an eye on the "Sales and Deals" page on http://shop.lego.com - every so often they will have a bunch of sets 50% off.
-
I doiubt it - RTD generally tries to keep things so you don't need to know much to keep up with an episode. Plus you have the Christmas special, which will have to stand up on its own. I'm not going to speculate too much about tonight's episode, but Ithink the line "I'm not here to kill him, I'm here to save him" from last week will prove significant.

I love people with an inflated idea of their collections worth - they are so much fun. I think MISB on eBay actually stands for "mangled in substitute box".

If you notice the original message says they have a "big bunch" to raffle, but is vague about the exact quantity. I presume that's a deliberate and clever move - if there were loads of entries they could make a few more available, and if there's only a few they can give one to everyone who entered. I'm hoping there are enough that we have at least a reasonable chance of winning one. I think it was also a very wise move making it a raffle rather than a judged competition - there are so many fantastic entries that it would be a nightmare to judge. Almost of them show great imagination, and a lot of them are hilarious. I've really been enjoying browsing them.

Mine is here:

168 entries and counting! Here's mine: http://festum.de/1000steine/myimages/c-3po...205bespinjunk02 Unfortunately someone else submitted something quite similar before me - I shouldn't have spent so long tweaking it! I'm glad it's a raffle, as there's some pretty stiff competition. I'm really impressed by the quality of the competition. There are a lot of superb models, and almost all of them have something to offer. There are some really imaginative entries, and some great humour. Even though it's a raffle and the quality of the models doesn't matter, people have really poured their hearts into it and produced some great work. I would love to see more competitions along these lines.

Nathan emailed me to say he's in the middle of moving house, hence things have gone a little quiet, but he'll email everyone next week.

I'm game, anyway. I'd be more than happy to help out with web design/hosting too.

I stand corrected on the population front. There still is no Lego Ireland.
-
Count me in! That makes five I've had a vague intention of forming an Irish AFOL group - if I ever found any other Irish AFOLs! Don't know why I didn't think of posting here. By the way, I'm pretty sure there is no Lego Ireland. We have to call the UK for customer service. I think the population of Ireland is a lot smaller than that of Norway.

As far as I can tell, the aliens are 2-piece models with no movable limbs. That kinda sucks. Some of the ships look nice, though.

That looks amazing! Some friends and I did a Battle of Hoth at a Sci-Fi convention a few years ago. We didn't have real snow, though. More photos here: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=173101

I'm in Ireland, but the situation is fairly similar here. Price is certainly a factor, but comparing prices with the US is not quite so simple - shelf prices in US generally don't include sales tax, while European prices already have VAT applied (17.5% for UK). So

Ijust got the new AT-ST, and it's great. Really nicely put together, looks well, stands well, and is nicely in proportion to minifigs. There are also some great bricks in the set if you don't mind bley. The older version wasn't bad, but had some stability issues, and the scale was way off. Quite funny to see the two beside each other. I wonder when we can expect a redesigned AT-AT? Perhaps they can get it so the head doesn't keep falling apart.
-
I agree, but I find MLCad can be fantastic for working out what bricks you need. I've been working on a 20,000+ brick model for the last while, and the computer model is proving invaluable for estimating quantities. You have to be careful what bricks you use, though, as it's very easy to build unbuildable models. This is a beautiful model, but I can't help feeling there might be a few colour substitutions needed to actually build it. And I wish people wouldn't upload BMP images. My broadband went down during the week, so it takesforever to download over dial-up.

If you want minifig packs, that's your prerogative. I think the idea human minifig packs go against the Exoforce back story a little. It's supposed to be a handful of people holding back huge hordes of evil robots. But the figs are cool, so I'd like lots, please. I used to love the old castle and space minifig packs. Lego did some Star Wars minifig packs a few years ago (with display stands). However, Kenner complained because they have the action figure license, and selling figs on their own is considered to be eating into their market. The new battle packs are a way to get around that, combining a good pack of figs with just enough model to call it a building toy and not action figures. There should be no need to do the same for any sets from Lego's own themes. Just put about 6-8 figures plus accessories in and I'll be quite happy. I'd love to see some for the new Castle series. And Viking packs would be great. And some city-folk packs would be great (I know we have the city workers pack, but a series of smaller packs would also be useful).

Not generally for Official sets (except filling in a few missing parts), but I have built quite a few of my own designs mostly from BrickLink parts. The problem tends to be finding sellers with enough of the parts I need to justify the postage. I usually end up buying a load of parts I "might need someday" to make the order up to a reasonable size. It can get expensive, but at least you get all those lovely parts.
