Cool super car ER0L! Great to see another 7 wide car builder. Great job in getting the mid engine super car body shape. I like how you built the body nice and low, makes the body match up well with the town mudguards and wheel package. Keep up the good work.

Very nice ambulance. I'm not familiar with how ambulances look in vancouver so I googled it and yours looks very accurate from the pics. I like the brick work on the red diaganol stripe on the back and the 6 wide cabin, 7 wide back works well. Love all the lights on the vehicle, they look great in your video clip. Look forward to seeing your next version.

Thanks for the kind comments KyleJohnson11. I actually don't connect the modulars to the road baseplates. The modulars are connected together but are seperate from the road baseplates. The road baseplates are connected to each other by the 2 x 2 tiles. I don't connect the buildings to the roadplates so it's easier to rearrange if I want to switch out a building or do some cleaning. If I did connect the modulars to the roads I would use 2 x 2 tiles.

Nice start on the new layout. Grand Emporium is a great set, I don't think you will be dissapointed. The only problem with modular buildings is once you have one, you have to get them all.

Layout WIP: I've finally started a real layout!
danthaman11 replied to kyphur's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Very nice space. Like everyone else who posted, I wish I had all that space to make a large layout. Looking forward to seeing updates as your layout develops. -
Thanks HighFlyer. Thanks President of Brick Town. Thanks eliminator for the kind comments on the town hall. The town hall building in Town Plan was my favorite building from the set. Sorry you missed out on the Town Plan. It's a great set, lot of details and easy to mod for those that want a modular or larger version of the buildings. I wish Lego would make more set like that. Thanks JediAnakin. No plans to make Stanford University. They have quite a large campus on the farm but maybe one day when I have space for a larger layout. Thanks chuckie8646 for the kind comments.

Very Nice mod. I love seeing Lego cars done in different colors. The red color works well with this car. What other colors are you thinking about doing? Even though it would be impossible to do, I always thought that the town plan car would look good in dark green.

Thanks grogall for taking the time to post all those pics. Still dissapointed that Lego decided to do another round of police and fire but excited to try out some of the new parts. It will be nice to have another fender option for cars and the 4 x 6 wedge triple curved plate is going to be available now in dark red and light bluish grey. The vehicle line looks good will definately pick up some those for my city.

Thanks ACCURATEin. Great suggestion on the Honda Delearship. I've actually been thinking of building a car dealership myself. Whenever I think about trying to build a modular that idea seems to come up. Thanks Ouchkabibbles. Glad you like the sidewalk improvements on the road plates. Austrailians definately pay a premium on Lego compared to those in the U.S. and a road plate solution might be more affordable for a city layout. Thanks Ralph_S.

Thanks Kryne. You should definately convert your town plan to modulars. I really enjoyed making the conversion and they look good with the official modulars. Thanks cimddwc. I debated between going with black and dark bluish gray for the parking lot but I had a lot of spare black 2 x 2 tiles so that is how I went with black. Thanks creator. The cinema was my first attempt and modular conversion. I've been thinking about doing a remodel. Making the building taller and adding another story. I have a lot of medium blue bricks but just haven't got around to it. Thanks Dr. Steve. Thanks L@go for kind comments. I agree with your analysis, it's easy to get a layout too crowded with too many cars or with the buildings all jammed together instead of properly spaced. To me spacing is very important, everything has to look right and fit together. I try to rotate the cars I have so the town doesn't end up looking like a used car lot and only allow one or two service vehicles at a time. I try to budget some of my Lego money for infrastructure and landscaping. It's easy for me to get carried away with buying sets, but it's the trees, stoplights, tiled sidewalks that give a lego city a greater sense of realism and detail. Thanks Vickmackey80. I am glad you like it, I know you were waiting to see pics for a while. Thanks ale80oneboy. Thanks for the kind comments tedbeard. I think the newer road plates can work well with the modular buildings if done right and they are relatively affordable. As long as the sidewalks are tiled and have a little landscaping they can look good. I like the way brick built roads look but to build them especially for a larger layout can be expensive. Thanks for the suggestion of ballast for the track. I've seen that on some of the train show layouts and it looks great. I will have to look into that. Thanks Jedi master Brick. I would love to add a suburban area to my layout with some houses but with the limited space I have it's more of a downtown focus. One day when I got more room I will have a massive layout with some houses.

Thanks henrylego. Sorry you missed out on Cafe Corner, Market Street and Green Grocer. Hopefully you picked up Fire Brigade before it goes out of production. Thanks Leg Godt Gud. Glad you liked the layout especially the town hall. It's one of my favorite buildings and was a fun build. Thanks Legocrazy81. Glad you were able to get a few ideas. Thanks streifen. It's pretty crazy over at the cinema. Most of my minifigs are there. I'll just say the police car is on it's way over there. Thanks lightningtiger. Thanks Nightshroud99. Sorry you don't have room for a Lego town. Hopefully you will have room someday. Thanks weltall1028.

I've been asked a few times to share my layout and I finally got around to taking some pics of my Lego city. I started building my city when the Cafe Corner set came out. It was more of a street back then just the Cafe Corner and Market Street sitting on my shelf with a couple of cars in front of it. From then as more sets have come out I've expanded the city to take up a whole table. My layout currently consists of an oval of train track with the town part inside of it. The streets are layed out in an H format with two main roads and one main cross street. All the buildings are modular style and all the vehicles are 6 studs or wider. No classic open backed buildings or 4 studs car in my city. The back consists of a row of modular buildings grand emporium, green grocer, market street and fire brigade. There is a side road that runs in front of the grand emporium. Behind the row of modulars are 2 of the wind turbines from 7747 Wind Turbine and Transport. They have been made taller and modified to fit M-motors in the turbine body. A Power Functions wire run down the towers where each wire connects to an I.R. Reciever. The speed of the turbine can be controlled with the power function train controller. It looks the most realistic at the slowest setting but at high speeds it makes a decent fan. Across from the grand emporium is my modular city hall. This is the city hall building from Town Plan. I've seen a couple version where they modularized the buidling but kept the 32 stud width so it could fit in a row of modulars. The city hall in my real life city is free standing, so I expanded mine and made it wider, the building is built on 3 16 stud wide baseplates. In front of the city hall is a courtyard area with benches and the fountain from town plan. On the main cross street is another row of modulars, Cafe corner and the Pet shop. This is the other side of the city hall building. There is a parking lot in front of it with spaces for 4 cars. The blue car in the parking lot is a 6 stud version of the blue car from town plan. Across from city hall is the Octan gas station. Behind the gas station is a small park area. Currently a catered lunch is going on for all public works employees. Wouldn't want them to work too hard. Next to the park is the train station. Its a modular version of 7997. Currently have the passenger train on the layout. My emerald night looks better but the passenger train goes way faster and is more enjoyable to run. This is the front of the train station. There is parking next to it for 2 cars. Across from the train station and next to the Cafe Corner is the movie theatre from Town Plan it's been modularized too. Most of my minifigs are here waiting to get into the next showing. This is my open space area. Waiting for the next expansion. Here's almost the whole layout minus the open space. Thanks for looking.

Nice collection of winter sets grogall. You thinking about doing a review of the post office? I see the Winter Village Post Office is available in the U.S. on Lego Shopt at Home but at $69.99. Didn't the official Lego press release say the set was going to be $59.99?

Thanks for the kind comments Brickmamba. Good to hear that a former s2000 owner can see the resemblance. I'm glad you are excited to work on your own. Thanks ACCURATEin. Your brother is a lucky man to have a spoon S2000. I just have a stock AP1 MY03 it's a lot of fun to drive but the spoon version's performance is at another level. I hope he lets you borrow it sometimes. s2ki.com great forum, don't spend too much time on it anymore but used to check it out a lot. Thanks Vickmackey80. Thanks Big Cam. S2000 is definately not for tall people. My brother is quite tall and he always looks scrunched up when sitting in my car. Sorry I don't have any instructions. I got to learn how to use Ldraw one of the days.

Great new collection of 4 studs cars L@go! I like the pick up the best. The proportions on the truck are just right and the medium blue with white trim color combination looks very good. On your streamliner are those dark red 4 x 1 slopes next to the grill area? If so I've never seen that part in dark red. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Danpb. Feel free to try and build your own version in LDD. The blue version is a dark/navy blue, I believe Lego officially calls it earth blue. It is one of my favorite Lego colors, everytime I build a car I always see if I can make it in dark blue but it can be a challenge due to less parts being available in that color. Thanks for the kind comments EROL.

Hey Vickmackey80, I try to takes some pics of my town later this fall. I got to get my copy of the pet shop finished up first and my layout cleaned up a bit. It's a dust magnet.

Interesting set and it looks well done but I will proably pass on it. I will join those that want to save their cash for more full size buildings. The printed hotel sign is nice though. Would have preferred an extra full size modular like a single pet shop sized building, would have fit the $80 price range and allowed people who can't afford $150 to try the series.

Very nice collection of classic 4 stud cars. I like the lime tuner the best. Love seeing Lego cars in the more rare colors. Keep up the good work.

Thanks lightningtinger. You should definately try to make your own design. Thanks bootz. Thanks jth781. Thanks Leg Godt Gud.

L-LV-34D I wanted to share my latest car design. A few weeks back I saw another forum member share a very nice 4 stud Honda S2000 in part of their MOC. I drive a S2000 in real life so I decided to try and make my own S2000 inspired roadster. The car is 7 wide and seats 2 minifigs. So far I have made the car in red, yellow and dark blue. I plan on doing some other colors in the future. This is the lowest 7 stud car I have made, the hood height is the same height as the top of the hood of the 4 stud yellow sports car from 8404 public transport. Thanks for looking.

Thanks Vicmackey80. Thanks johnnyvgoode. Thanks SilentMode for the tip. I have been using the brasso technique and it has worked well but requires a lot of rubbing. I will have to try the eraser technique but it proably requires a lot of rubbing too. For 7 wide cars I make the main chassis 3 studs wide. Take a combination of 2 wide plates and 1 wide plates and put them together to get the desired stud length for the car you are making. For the passenger area add 2 wide plates next to each side of the 3 wide chassis. This will get you the seven stud width. The stability for your base will have to come from the car body. From that base build up your car. Hope that helps.

Thanks for sharing the preview pic for the new winter post office! Its looks like a very promising set. I look forward to seeing higher resolution images.

Thanks Out of Sight! I did not try to model the color schemes on specific police departments but you are correct the LAPD is black and white and NYPD is white and blue so they could work for those departments. Those real world police car photos you shared are very cool. I did not know the Japanese used Nissan GT-R's. I wonder how many Lambo police cars the Italian police actually own. Thanks for the tip petertab! I found the forum thread on how to do this so I will have to give it a try. Thanks!

Wow! Thanks for letting me know about the compass part from POTC sets. That means the dark blue 1 x 1 tile is in production just with printing on it right now. Maybe Lego will start using the dark blue 1 x1 tiles without printing for some future sets but for the time being I guess I am going to have to learn how to take the printing off.
