LIC- Lego Instructions Creator
Chas replied to Chas's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
POV Ray for cover shots and such. I finally got the buffer exchange to work but it basically adds extra steps to the build in the instruction set and since it has allot of parts and steps, it is already a project and a half. I really liked what LIC does, so much so that i downloaded the source and am working through python to see if i can figure out what is wrong! -
LIC- Lego Instructions Creator
Chas replied to Chas's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Update, I have tried on numerous occations to make a pdf of the instruction set I was working on, it stops @ 1% and doesn't seem to do anything. Shame too as the instruction creator seems really nice and has lots of good features for creating professional looking instruction sets. Guess I have to learn to master the buffer exchange and POV Ray!! -
I have used LDD for quite some time but it's instruction creation leaves much to be desired. I have started to use LDRAW and LPub and these two tool are great but I haven't been able to figure out the Buffer Exchange thing so I looked for an alternative. I found this program and it looks promising. I does what LPub does as fare as pdf but it also has some of the editing qualities of LDraw. You can add rotation Icons and move and rearange every aspect of the instruction page. I Generates a cover pave with the finished model and a multipage parts list at the end. I also highlights new parts in the guide. What I was wondering is if anyone else has tried/used this program?

Sarcasm related to LEGO Technic
Chas replied to PhyBuilder's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
"Honest baby, this "insert Set name here" is for Jacob"! "Son, I have no idea where your "insert part name here" is"! "I'll be in bed in a minute, just have this one part i have to finish." forgot one "honey, I just need these last part to finish the model and I won't be ordering any more from Lego!" -

Torpedo Trike, going at 20.78 km/h
Chas replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Paul, I have seen and admired your work for quite some time, this is awsome!!! You are truely and artist at what you do! I agree with the smothe floor as well, you could probably beat the 20.8 on a smothe surface. And for my american counterparts 20.8 km/h is 12.9245 mph. -

Very nice, I want one!!!!!! -
Don't own an RCX but the schematic for the NXTT specifies a 2.2k resistor between the switch and the output connector (current limiter). This site has alot of excellent rcx stuff on it so try here and see if you can find some info: http://www.philohome.com/nxt.htm I would say use the resistor as it will not interfere with the signal path and better safe than sorry!

How order parts for a LDD MOC
Chas replied to Yules's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Yules, here is the link. Remember this is a lego direct order so parts might be a little more expensive that BL so keep that in mind. Remember also that after you submit the order, they will email u with their price and you have 2 weeks to call and order or else they cancel the order number. This worked well for my tank model and i got all the parts directly from lego except wheels which are no longer in production, I got those from BL. https://service.lego.com/en-us/replacementparts#BasicInfo Hope this helps. -
Sets better destined as 'Spare Parts'
Chas replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
[ "But Darling, you shouldn't underestimate the capabilities of our 5 year old boy! In fact, that 31313 Mindstorms Set will be just perfect for him!" This has me rolling!! Actually, my son got the first mindstorms set on a visit to lego land @ 7. I have been building his sets since he was about 4. He's 11 now and building his own. He does his own MOCs too! Oh and I now posses the mindstorms!!! -
Sets better destined as 'Spare Parts'
Chas replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
My son gets the sets ( easier to justify to the wife :-) ) and dad "borrows" the parts! Everything I build gets disassembled and re stored. My son plays with his builds and they eventually get "destroyed" by some invading alien " read bionicle"! Then I have more parts to borrow!!!! -

How order parts for a LDD MOC
Chas replied to Yules's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I just ordered about 1000 parts from Lego to build a tank model. They were reasonable and all the parts are new. You order form customer service and then pick I want to order bricks and put in the brick number. It brings up the part with color selections and when you click on the color you see it gives you the actual colors. Then you enter the number you want and add to bag. Lego sends you an e-mail with the price and gives you two weeks to decide if you want them or not. If you buy them you call the number in the e-mail and purchase the parts. From what i can tell from my order and experance, they have every part that is still in production on the site. If the color you want is out of stock, you will not be able to add it to your bag but when you call them, if you don't mind waiting, you can order and pay for the part and it will be shipped when they get it in stock. I used this method because I couldn't find a vendor on BL that had all the parts I needed and in the quatities I needed so the shipping from multiple stores would be cost prohibitive. Hope this helps you. -

Figured out why i couldn't post the pdf's in bricklink, naming convention! . Will post and then supply links, both are over 8 mb and take a while to upload. -
If you call this low profile, I'd love to see when you go all out, excellent build with great details

Lego Classic Clock and Intelli Car
Chas replied to Chas's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Calabar, The instructions are indeed from Lego, downloaded the clock from the mindstorms site before they changed it and the intelli car was from the lego education site. Will have to upload them to brickshelf and then provide a link for you. I just opened the brickshelf account today so this in new to me. Chas PS: Will crop and repost the pics to brickshelf as well -
Lego Classic Clock and Intelli Car
Chas replied to Chas's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I was not entirely sure about the Offical Set post because these are additional models released from lego. I have the PDF instructions and built these in LDD for my son to be able to build them from the computer. I also have the program files for NXT-G. The intelli car was posted on the lego education website with the education reasource kit. Have the PDF and NXT-G for them as well. -
Hi, I am new to the board and would like to ask if anyone would be interested the the lego Classic Cooco Clock fro the mindstorms that was posted on the mindstorms website. I also have the Intelli Car done in LDD. This instruction is posted in the Lego Education Site. To the moderator, if this belongs somewhere else feel free to move it as I said, I'm new here! I will gage the respnoses as to wether or not to post and by then I should have enough posts to do it This is the one I'm Talking about And This one
