I like it. The modulars have always fallen between American or European appearance anyway, in my opinion, with Fire Brigade, Town Hall, Palace cinema and Detectives Office among the American looking ones, and most of the rest being European.

Bought infearno interception today, amazing! Like a Blade Runner spinner crossed with Tron.

How much did you spend on Lego in 2011?
jm28cardiff replied to Legacy Man's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Got back into Lego in 2010, spent loads that year, possibly £2,000. Was doing ok this year, resisting some urges, till I got to about August and went mad on Atlantis, some older city sets, Kings Castle and Medieval Market Village. I do track my spending, buy my computer died a few months ago and I lost the exact figures. Trying to cut back a bit, and am selling some sets now, need to be more focused and less scattershot in the purchases. I've always wanted to build a lego city, but realistically I will never have the room, so a modular street scene would be more realistic, and therefore I dont need so many vehicles or coastguard sets and boats! -
I was in my local lego shop today, and they had the mini modulars set. It was in quite a small (but deeper than usual) box, which seems a more sensible option. With regard to keeping boxes, I suppose in the back of my mind if I do decide to let some go in the future, I know it would help the sale to have the box.
-
Interesting. Was that just a tester though, it doesnt seem like they have shrunk across the board.
-
Well, thats good then! I bought the power boat transporter set earlier today and the box is rather large, it could fit into something half that size. It seems a bit wasteful.
-
I know the big boxes are part of the marketing to make them appealing, with nice big artwork on them, but the boxes are too big! They could easily fit the bigger sets into smaller boxes, and thus, I could fit more boxes into my storage area. As it is, I've virtually run out of room, and may even need to (gulp) get rid of some sets. Anyone agree?

I'm never ordering from Amazon again!
jm28cardiff replied to MrZ's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Just get them replaced. The only time I've had problems with Amazomn UK is when they use Hermes for the delivery. -
New Lego 10223 Kingdoms Joust Exclusive

So will this join on to the existing castle set? -
Do you think a Lego Sim City would be a good idea? All the features of sim city, but with Lego Buildings, and an editor to design and build your own buildings too?

I would have liked to see Fisher Price Adventure People make the list, they were truly my favourite as a kid. Then again, I didnt know a single other person who had any.

New Lego Store opening in Cardiff, UK!
jm28cardiff replied to jm28cardiff's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Next to the Lego Shop in Cardiff is a shop called "Clas Ohlson", they had some plastic drawer units that would be perfect for storing some Lego in. -
New Lego Store opening in Cardiff, UK!
jm28cardiff replied to jm28cardiff's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The Lego store in cardiff will apparently open 8th December, its in St Davids 2 opposite the Disney Store (the hoardings are up so its being fitted out), opening hours 9.30-8pm on most days. Cant wait! -
There was an ad on Ebay UK recently, someone wanted 50k for "the largest lego collection in the world", claimed to have "millions" of pieces, yet the photos showed an ordinary looking collection in a normal house!

New Lego Store opening in Cardiff, UK!
jm28cardiff replied to jm28cardiff's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I work in Cardiff so walk through the arcade every week, theres plenty of empty units, but I've not seen any hoardings up yet that would say which one the Lego Store would be. The job ads said mid-October start date for the manager and assistant manager. I guess once they are appointed, they would have a hand in recruiting the store staff? It would make sense to open before Xmas at least though. -
LDD question

Thanks! -
Can you "Stick" several pieces together, then move them all as one object? Say you were doing a spaceship, made a wing out of various pieces, but wanted to move it, can you move the whole wing as one piece?
-
Hi guys, I saw on a recruitment website jobs for Manager and Assistant Manager for a new lego store in Cardiff! The ads went up today I think. It says it will be in St Davids Arcade, 16 staff, 223sqm (no idea if thats big or small!). It says start date - mid October!

I'm 35 now, the last lego I bought before my dark ages was when I was about 15. I bought a couple of Futuron and Blacktron sets in about 1990? I was already "too old" for it at the time, because my parents made fun of me for buying it! Even after I stopped buying and playing with lego, looking back, I would still occasionally look at what was in the shops. I remember looking at Pirates stuff, thinking it was cool, but not buying because I was "too old". About ten years ago I found a website with Lego instructions, so I rebuilt a few sets. Had fun doing it, so almost came out of my dark ages then, but it was a false start. I put it all back in the attic again. Fast forward to a couple of months ago, I got my lego down from the Attic again, finished rebuilding my old sets, then started buying some in the shops. The smart car was the first I bought, I thought it was a cool little car. Now I have spent about £1000 on sets in the last two months, which is crazy when you think about it! But I was catching up on things I've missed out on over the years. Hopefully, going forwards, I can buy things as they come out and not go into another dark age!

Why are there only 3 official lego shops in the UK, when we are supposedly one of the biggest markets for Lego? Yes you can buy Lego in Toys R Us, or The Entertainer, but they don't carry the full range.

LDD Preferences questions
jm28cardiff replied to jm28cardiff's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I guess it must be the computer then, a 2005 laptop. The march of technology leaves me behind once again! Just started fiddling with lego again after a 20 year gap (I'm 35 now), I'm getting obsessed with it! I'm hoping LDD will ease the pressure on the wallet, I'll do stuff in there instead of buying lots of sets, but so far thats not working! -
Ive only just come across this forum, and LDD, I have a couple of questions about it- 1) Why is it, if I enable "High quality rendering of bricks placed in the scene", it looks so awful? The colour palette is so muddy and dark. White looks grey etc. Unticking this option makes it look more like real lego on the screen. 2) What does the "compatability mode level" slider mean? Thanks!
